Record cold in eleven U.S. states - coldest February 16 in history of meteorological observations

RECORD
Russian website acknowledges the cold. "Record frosts in 11 US states," reads the title. "Coldest February 16 in the history of meteorological observations."

Yesterday we wrote about abnormal cold in Louisiana and Texas. But that ended up being just the beginning of the intensification of severe cold.

Coldest February 16 in the history of meteorological observations

Earlier this week, record low temperatures were recorded in more than 20 US cities. It was the coldest February 16 in the history of meteorological observations, according to the country's National Meteorological Service.

Adapt 2030: Questions they don't want you to ask about the global power outages

Tesla towers

The conversation rages on about renewables vs fossil fuels during power outages in both the E.U and the USA. That's the distraction, that's where powers that be want the conversation to stay, not magnetic motors and decentralized electrical production with no power provider to pay monthly. Tesla Towers, Tesla Oscillators and Magnetic Motors are never discussed as solutions for indoor agriculture, until now. Lets talk.

Mutated gene provides superior resilience to cold says study

Almost one in five people lacks the protein α-actinin-3 in their muscle fibre. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet now show that more of the skeletal muscle of these individuals comprises slow-twitch muscle fibres, which are more durable and energy-efficient and provide better tolerance to low temperatures than fast-twitch muscle fibres. The results are published in The American Journal of Human Genetics.

Skeletal muscle comprises fast-twitch (white) fibres that fatigue quickly and slow-twitch (red) fibres that are more resistant to fatigue. The protein α-actinin-3, which is found only in fast-twitch fibres, is absent in almost 20 per cent of people - almost 1.5 billion individuals - due to a mutation in the gene that codes for it. In evolutionary terms, the presence of the mutated gene increased when humans migrated from Africa to the colder climates of central and northern Europe.

A large winter storm impacted a large portion of the United States over the Valentine's Day holiday and through Monday.

The storm impacted areas in Texas-Louisiana-Oklahoma all the way through Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, and up through Illinois-Ohio-Indiana. Even areas on the upper east coast all saw snow from this same system.

Because of the snow and ice, as of Tuesday morning, over 4 million people in Texas are still without power after this powerful storm and many are having to conserve power.

Here's a look at some of the highest snowfall reports from February 14-15. Areas near Lake Michigan, like Chicago, Milwaukee, and the northwest corner of Indiana dealt with very impactful lake-effect snow bands that caused some of these high totals.

'Just a real mess': 100 million people from the South to the East Coast in path of a new winter storm; 2.1M power outages across 8 states

winter weather USA
Winter's brutal assault continued Wednesday night as another snowstorm roared its way across the nation through the end of the week, hitting areas where millions were already without electricity in record-breaking cold.

More than 100 million Americans are in the path of the storm as it tracks from the southern Plains to the East Coast over the next few days, the National Weather Service said.

But the nation's heartland will get some relief over the weekend, the weather service reported, as the frigid air will begin to moderate over the next couple days.

Green Folly: Berlin city's e-buses ground to halt due cold weather

Germany's capital Berlin was forced to replace some of its electric buses with diesel buses due to range problems associated with the cold weather.

The cold weather worldwide is exposing the weakness of green energies and transportation systems based on them. For example Texas has seen millions of people impacted by rolling blackouts due to solar panels being covered by snow and wind turbines being frozen still.

The extremely cold weather has also led to transport disruptions all over Germany. One example is Berlin, Germany's fleet of electric city buses.

'Use glowsticks for lighting' says Texas hotel to guest as statewide power failure causes mayhem

As we previously reported on the ice-storm Texas frozen wind power - outages ensue, electricity now at unheard of $9000 per megawatt-hour I have friends in Texas that are reporting dire conditions thanks to the "green energy" grid failing to produce enough power. One friend and her husband are trapped in Austin, TX and have received this letter from the hotel they are staying at - it's mind-blowing. She says in a Facebook post:
"Our hotel is out of food, electricity, water and is giving us glow sticks for light. We're here until the weekend in below freezing weather."

Snow blanketed parts of Syria Lebanon and Israel on Wednesday, blocking roads disrupting traffic and postponing exams at some universities.

Large parts of Syria were covered, including the capital Damascus which is witnessing this winter's first snowfall. Snow was as high as 15 cm (6 inches) in the mountains of Sweida province, according to the official state news agency SANA.

Roads in some provinces were blocked. In the central province of Hama, bulldozers shoveled snow to open roads while vehicles skidded on ice, further causing traffic disruption.

The University of Damascus called off mid-term exams scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in all its branches around Syria because of the extreme weather conditions. The country's ports remained open.
