LOL and the "change of plans"

pentagon leaks
So, we get the "clue" now about the leaks which are most likely deliberate and the largest "clue" is CNN "report".
Highly classified Pentagon documents leaked online in recent weeks have provided a rare window into how the US spies on allies and foes alike, deeply rattling US officials, who fear the revelations could jeopardize sensitive sources and compromise important foreign relationships. Some of the documents, which US officials say are authentic, expose the extent of US eavesdropping on key allies, including South Korea, Israel and Ukraine. Others reveal the degree to which the US has penetrated the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian mercenary organization Wagner Group, largely through intercepted communications and human sources, which could now be cut off or put in danger. Still others divulge key weaknesses in Ukrainian weaponry, air defense, and battalion sizes and readiness at a critical point in the war, as Ukrainian forces gear up to launch a counteroffensive against the Russians - and just as the US and Ukraine have begun to develop a more mutually trusting relationship over intelligence-sharing. Ukraine has already altered some of its military plans because of the leak, a source close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told CNN.

Walmart abandons unprofitable Chicago stores after investing "hundreds of millions" in city

walmart store closing
After two decades of losses and "hundreds of millions of dollars" invested in Chicago, Walmart is shuttering four unprofitable stores in the metropolitan area, reducing its store footprint by half in the crime-ridden city.

"The simplest explanation is that collectively our Chicago stores have not been profitable since we opened the first one nearly 17 years ago - these stores lose tens of millions of dollars a year, and their annual losses nearly doubled in just the last five years," Walmart wrote in a press release.

Indeed, Walmart has soured on Chicago - the Democratic stronghold that went from a once beautiful metro area into an absolute hellhole. According to Walmart, the decision came after considerable investment in the town.

Anheuser-Busch distributors in Heartland, South are 'spooked' by backlash to Dylan Mulvaney pact: report

© InstagramAnheuser-Busch set social media ablaze when beer juggernaut Bud Light celebrated transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney’s "365 Days of Girlhood" with a polarizing promotion.
'It appears likely Bud Light took a volume hit in some markets,' beer trade publication reported.

Anheuser-Busch distributors in rural areas of the Heartland and South are "spooked" after widespread backlash to Bud Light celebrating transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney's "365 Days of Girlhood" with a polarizing promotion, according to the trade publication Beer Business Daily.

Earlier this month, the trans activist revealed that the beer company sent packs of Bud Light featuring the influencer's face as a way to celebrate a full year of "girlhood" that Mulvaney recently reached. Mulvaney said the cans were her "most prized possession" on Instagram with a post featuring "#budlightpartner." A video then featured Mulvaney in a bathtub drinking a Bud Light beer as part of the campaign.

Comment: Get woke, go broke. It's so predictable as to be cliché. It's amazing that these brand directors aren't able to see what's right in their faces - appealing to a highly vocal minority while offending everyone else means considerably shrinking the customer base. Not a good business strategy.

Today in empire: Copbots, MSM compliance, and McCaul's embarrassing Taiwan admission

police robot dog
Too much interesting stuff happening in the life of the empire to cover in just one article today, so we're doing a three-in-one wrap-up.

McCaul says war over Taiwan will be about controlling microchips — err, I mean, democracy and freedom.

Republican congressman Michael McCaul made a very interesting admission during a Sunday interview on MSNBC, which he hastily had to walk back after the host pointed out the implications of what he was saying.

MSNBC's Chuck Todd asked the virulent China hawk McCaul to "make the basic case" for why Americans should be willing to go to war over Taiwan, and McCaul responded by saying it was about controlling the manufacturing of microchips. When Todd pointed out that this sounded a lot like justifications that have been made for US wars and militarism to control global oil supplies, McCaul hastily corrected himself and said that protecting Taiwan is actually about "democracy and freedom".

"Make the basic case for why Americans not only should care about what happens in Taiwan but should be willing to spill American blood and treasure to defend Taiwan," Todd said.

Musk calls out BBC reporter over 'lies'

Elon Musk has accused a BBC reporter of lying about hate speech on Twitter. An audio excerpt from a Twitter Spaces discussion showed US-based tech journalist James Clayton struggling to justify his own questions on the alleged rise of offensive content on the social media platform.

At one point in the interview, Clayton asked Musk to respond to claims that hate speech had become more prevalent on Twitter, and that there was not enough moderation staff after Musk admitted to laying off over 80% of the company's workforce since his takeover last October.

After Musk asked the reporter to clarify the allegations, Clayton claimed that he had personally seen more "hateful content" in his 'For You' feed since the billionaire took over the company.

The Twitter CEO then asked the journalist to define what he meant by "hateful content" and to provide at least one example of an offensive post he had seen.

Second expelled Tennessee Dem reinstated to state house

Justin Pearson

The second Tennessee Democrat — who was ousted for his role in the storming of the state capitol earlier this month — was unanimously reappointed by a Memphis commission Wednesday.

Justin Pearson was expelled last week in a vote of 69-26 for breaking decorum rules after he joined fellow Democrats and gun-control protesters who stormed into the state capitol, demanding more gun restrictions following the mass shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville. Hundreds of Pearson's supporters joined him in Memphis as city officials voted 7-0 to send him back to the state House.

"The message for all the people in Nashville who decided to expel us: You can't expel hope. You can't expel justice," Pearson said at the meeting, according to the Associated Press. "You can't expel our voice. And you sure can't expel our fight."

Comment: You can't expel stupid either, apparently.

After being reappointed, Pearson promised that the events of the past week are only the beginning. "They've awakened a sleeping giant," he said.

Pearson was accused of using a "fake Southern preacher voice" as his fame grew nationwide following his expulsion. Video resurfaced online of Pearson back in his college days, pitching a moderate brand of politics absent the fiery rhetoric and dramatic, preacher-like delivery the Memphis lawmaker has employed since his ouster from the statehouse.

Comment: The only thing faker than Pearson's preacher affectation is his self-righteous indignation.

Comment: Those who shouted and screamed like petulant children, lawmakers included, are the real fascists here. It's worrisome in the extreme that they have control over the levers of power and are so easily re-instated after making a complete mockery of their office and the Tennessee state government as a whole.

US Fed forecasts 'mild recession' in late 2023

federal reserve
Policymakers at the Federal Reserve have projected that the United States will experience a "mild recession" later this year that could take two years to overcome, minutes of the central bank's policy meeting from March showed.

"
Given their assessment of the potential economic effects of the recent banking-sector developments, the staff's projection at the time of the March meeting included a mild recession starting later this year, with a recovery over the subsequent two years," the minutes from the March 22 meeting said.

Comment: If the US Fed is admitting to a mild recession - and this is after a number of significant bank bailouts - then one can expect much, much worse up ahead.

Citing residents in the Sagaing region, BBC Burmese, Radio Free Asia (RFA), and the Irrawaddy news portal reported between 50 and 100 people, including civilians, had died in the attack.

Reuters could not immediately verify the reports and a spokesperson for the ruling military did not answer a phone call seeking comment.

Techie fraudster Elizabeth Holmes to begin 11-year prison sentence at end of month

Elizabeth holmes
Theranos and 34-year-old Holmes ran “an elaborate, years-long fraud in which they exaggerated or made false statements about the company’s technology, business, and financial performance,” according to the SEC.
Elizabeth Holmes must begin her more than 11-year prison sentence on 27 April after a federal judge denied the disgraced Theranos founder's request to remain free while she appeals her conviction.

Holmes, who was convicted on four counts of fraud and conspiracy related to the failed blood-testing startup in January 2022, is "not likely to flee or pose a danger" to the public, US district court judge Edward Davila wrote in his ruling. However, the San Jose-based judge found that her appeal was unlikely to result in a reversal of the verdict or a new trial - a requirement for a defendant to remain free post-conviction.

Prosecutors had attempted to argue that Holmes did pose a flight risk, revealing that her partner had bought her a one-way flight to Mexico shortly before the verdict was returned. While Davila called the travel plans a "bold move" and Holmes's failure to cancel the ticket post-conviction a "perilously careless oversight", he accepted her assertion that she was not trying to flee the country.

Britain's top police force has 161 convicted criminals on its books

Britain's top police force currently employs 161 officers with criminal convictions, some of which pertain to serious sexual offenses.

This is just one revelation unearthed from an update by the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley to the British government on the action being taken by the force to clean up its image after numerous recent reports concluded it was no longer capable of protecting the public.

The letter by Rowley to Home Secretary Suella Braverman, seen by the British press, highlights the uphill task ahead of those at the helm of Britain's largest police force to address public concerns over the force's recruitment and the conduct of its officers.
