Idiotic: New Oxford study suggests taxing meat by 40% to save the planet from climate change

save the planet
There's a brand new way to save the planet, and a group of professors from Oxford University wants to force the issue by assessing enormous taxes on foods said to have higher "climate impact."

To make a long story short, they want to force everyone who doesn't have a high income to become vegan by taxing the living daylights out of animal products. If you think your grocery bill is out of control now, just you wait if these scientists get their way.

By taxing items like beef by 40%, dairy products and poultry by 20%, and certain vegetable oils, the planet will be saved.

Forty percent.

That means a pound of ground beef that now costs $6 would cost $8.40. A gallon of organic milk would also go up by $2-3, depending what you pay now. The financial impact would be massive. Average humans won't be able to afford to eat much besides beans and rice.

In a study dated November 7th, 2016, the Oxford Martin School, part of Oxford University, suggested a system of taxation to discourage people from buying and eating certain foods. The scientists suggested that the foods which contribute the most to the anthropogenic global warming, the man-made-global-warming-turned-climate change that we hear so much about, will be taxed at a higher rate. The report states:

The Olympia police chief delivered a strong rebuke to Port operators during a city council hearing following a week-long protest over shipments of fracking materials destined for North Dakota.

Police Chief Ronnie Roberts accused the Port of Olympia of undermining the public's trust in law enforcement.

"I don't want my department to be the scapegoat for the decisions the port is making," Roberts told Olympia City Council on Tuesday, urging the port to find alternatives to accepting fracking-related cargo, according to The Olympian.

"They have choices and options should they choose to use them to eliminate proppants coming to the port. Continued shipments will only erode more trust and put more people and businesses in our community at risk."

Real 'fake news' sites are being exposed; CNN's app getting hit with 1 star reviews

news apps
The Apple App Store and Google Play are two new fronts that have opened up in the battle between the left and the right over media bias.

In the past couple weeks established, "real" news publishers from CNN to USA Today have been hit with a ton of one-star reviews from people saying that the apps offered by MSM have a liberal bias.

The recent app reviews reflect a general discourse and lack of trust with corporate mainstream media...
"Absurdly left-leaning rhetoric," one user wrote about Quartz's app.

"I'm all for the first amendment but also representing the facts."

"Literally nothing but LIARS!" another user wrote about CNN's app.

Comment: Portions of the population who see mainstream news as nothing more than claptrap are becoming more vocal. With they way the media covered the recent election, can you blame them for expressing their displeasure?

An 8-year-old African-American boy is recovering from injuries sustained in an apparently racially-motivated attack outside his school in Louisiana, his family says.

Jordan Jackson's mother Alana explained in a Facebook post that he was defending his 4-year-old sister from boys throwing dirt at her. When Jackson intervened, one of the boys said, "You need to go back to the cotton farm."

Jackson reportedly told them the statement was racist and became involved in a physical confrontation with the other boys in which he sustained a broken arm and concussion, the Atlanta Black Star reports.

"Today my 8 year old son had to physically defend himself and his sister on the playground after a 13 year old boy slammed him to the ground breaking his arm & giving him a concussion, a 6 year old threw mulch at them, and a 9 year old told him to 'Go back to the cotton farm!'" Alana posted.

Fifth cop shot within three days in spike of ambush-style attacks

Collin Rose police officer shot
A police officer has undergone potentially lifesaving surgery after he was shot in the head while on duty near a college in downtown Detroit. Collin Rose, 29, was shot just a few blocks from Wayne State University about 6.45pm on Tuesday, and was then rushed to the Detroit Receiving Hospital for surgery. He is now listed as being in a critical, but stable, condition and is recovering with his family. Rose has been with the force for about five years.

Deangelo Davis had been named as a person of interest in the shooting, according to ClickOn Detroit, before he was taken into custody about 9:45pm. The officer was shot shortly after radioing to say he was approaching a man while investigating car robberies. Wayne State University police Chief Anthony Holt told reporters it had been a 'traumatic episode' but stressed how thrilled he was that Rose had come out of surgery.

Police carried out a 'massive manhunt' prior to Davis' arrest, after initial reports said officers were searching for a black man in his 40s, wearing a white t-shirt and a skull cap and a brown jacket. Davis was riding a blue BMX at the time of the shooting, according to Detroit Police Chief James Craig. Craig then linked the attack to other police shootings across the country in recent days.

Another 15-year-old boy killed by police; tased, shot 6 times and attacked by police dog

Luke Smith, a sophomore at Aptos High School, was fatally shot by police over the weekend while he was allegedly high on LSD. His death was a tragedy and has shocked the community.

The entire interaction between police and Smith was captured on multiple body cameras. The video shows approximately a dozen police officers surround Smith as he held a knife, and shoot him at least 6 times with 40mm less lethal rounds, 2 times with a taser, 2 times siccing the K9 on him, and one time shooting him with an AR15.

Smith died at the scene as officers performed life-saving procedures.

According to Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart, Smith's family called 9-1-1 earlier in the night after Smith took some LSD. The Aptos High student took LSD with a friend earlier that night, Hart said, as reported by KSBW. The friend told investigators that Smith took a larger dose than he did.

Smith's girlfriend, Celine Rivera, and sister, Savannah Smith, told reporters that Smith is a loving boy who loved life and after taking the LSD, he acted dramatically out of character.

Savannah explained that her brother had experimented with recreational drugs plenty of times in the past and never became violent. However, this time, Savannah believes he took "a bad batch of LSD."

Comment: Warning: Graphic video

Comment: Law enforcement and the war on drugs are a complete farce and utter failure. This boy was attacked by a police dog, tased, shot six times and killed because of those ideologies. What a world we live in.

Far-right extremist Thomas Mair has been found guilty of the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox after a seven-day trial at the Old Bailey, where he refused to give evidence in his defense.

Mair, 53, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Mair repeatedly shot and stabbed Cox in the street outside her constituency surgery during the EU referendum campaign in June. During the attack, he yelled "Britain first," the court was told.

As she lay wounded on the ground, the MP urged her staff to flee and avoid getting hurt, telling them: "Let him hurt me. Don't let him hurt you."

The 41-year-old mother of two died shortly afterwards in the back of an ambulance.

California secession backers: 'US Empire finished - Multipolar world new reality - We're opening embassy in Russia'

Supporters of California secession want to open an embassy in Russia according to the head of the Yes California Independence Campaign, Louis Marinelli. He announced this to the American news website Business Insider. Radio Sputnik spoke with Marinelli about why he seeks to open a Californian embassy in Russia:

"We are going to have a vote to make California an independent country in 2019 and we want to lay the ground work now so that after the vote results are in we can begin to request international recognition of California as an independent nation," Marinelli said.

He further said that his party is going to apply for membership to the United Nations and whether the application will be accepted or not is heavily reliant on the fact that the Security Council must accept the application. There are five countries in the world that have veto power over that decision and one of them is Russia.

"We want to start laying the groundwork now to have an opportunity to have a dialogue with the Russian people about California becoming an independent country, so that we can later on seek Russia's support to recognize our independence results," Marinelli said.

German court: 'Sharia police' didn't break law in attempts to enforce Muslim rules

A German court has ruled that a group of Islamists did not break the law when forming a 'Sharia police force' in 2014. The group caused public outrage after patrolling a western city in orange vests, instructing residents to abide by the strict Muslim code.

The group's vests had 'Sharia Police' printed on them in large block letters, but this did not breach the countrywide ban on political uniforms, the judges ruled. Under German law, a uniform has to be "suggestively militant" or have an "intimidating effect" to constitute a violation.

The judges specifically cited one eyewitness who believed the vests were themed costumes for a bachelor party. They went on to state that there was no proof to suggest that the men were wearing the vests to break the law intentionally. The court also noted that police in Wuppertal did not find anything criminal about the men wearing the vests, which were not seized by officers at the time.

The ruling has not yet come into effect and can still be appealed by the state prosecutor.

Comment: It sometimes takes decades, even centuries, for diverse communities to 'come together' in peace and respect for factional differences. It is natural for cultural units to safeguard what they believe. While laws outline and defend individual and group rights, they often conflict with basic human nature. An 'instant' influx of one million Muslim asylum seekers means something has to move over to accommodate, but don't expect the adjustment to be soon or easy.

Water protector Sofia Walinsky in critical condition after DAPL police grenade destroys her arm

Sofia Walinsky
In an act of hubris defying logic, the Morton County Sheriff's Department now claims Sunday night's vicious offensive against water protectors opposed to the Dakota Access Pipeline โ€” during which two tribal elders suffered cardiac arrest, a rubber bullet struck a 13-year-old girl in the face, and a young woman carrying water to others had her arm nearly blown off โ€” is the fault of the activists.

Worse, the sheriff claims officers did not use a low-powered water cannon against the unarmed crowd of around 400 people โ€” despite live footage from the scene so explicitly proving that, even corporate media called the assertion to task.

Worse still, the sheriff balked at the accusation police used concussion grenades, and suggested Sophia Walinsky โ€” the water protector whose horrifically mangled arm might have be amputated โ€” suffered that injury because she must have been incompetently rigging an improvised explosive.

"It wasn't from our law enforcement, because we didn't deploy anything that should have caused that type of damage to her arm," contended Morton County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman, Maxine Herr, apparently ignoring the continual volley of various exploding canisters of tear gas and other grenades. "We're not sure how her injury was sustained."

Comment: The police behavior demonstrated at the DAPL protests is a reflection of the values held by the elite towards the people. Resources of the land should belong to the people not to corporations who can call up public servants to be used as their personal thugs.
