Feminism 'empowering' women by portraying them as sex objects

patriarchy
On Sunday, LOVE Magazine released its annual advent calendar. And on the "3rd day of Christmas," 26-year-old model Emily Ratajkowski stands clothed in nothing but red lingerie, a pair of winter gloves, and...Italian food. All in the name of feminism.

Nothing like the objectification of women to advance an agenda geared toward female equality and empowerment. Right, feminists?

I'm sure Weinstein is thanking you copiously for it.

Comment: He's not the only one.

Ratajkowski has been a fervent "feminist" for quite some time, and lately has developed quite a voice when it comes to acknowledging and decrying allegations of sexual assault, harassment, and rape. Yet she, a thin, white, cis woman who has probably never ingested carbs in her life, is parading herself around like a sex object.

Comment: Oh, nasty. Guess which strain of Feminism you're infected with? Notice the side swipe to thin, white and cis privilege? Intersectional Feminist much?

She's crying out against men objectifying and harassing women, when she literally allows (and celebrates) her own objectification into a plate at an Olive Garden. Not to mention the fact that she has dozens of pictures of herself either half- or completely naked on her Twitter profile, which was research I REALLY didn't want to have to do, but it is what it is.

Comment: You're not fooling anybody. We all know you and Julie Bindel have that page double bookmarked.

Digression aside, the irony of this is absolutely hysterical. And incredibly irritating.

Comment: Well, they've really lost the plot. Then again, 'feminism' was never really about empowering women anyway. See also:

Notorious hacker group Anonymous has targeted several Norwegian institutions to protest against the Nordic country's whaling industry.

Norway is currently one of the few nations in the world that still conducts commercial whale hunts, alongside Iceland, Japan and the Faroe Islands. All of these countries come under regular attack from Anonymous hackers in the #OpWhales campaign, the Norwegian Aftenposten daily reported.

Justice for all in the land of the free? The US as the global capital of mass incarceration

prison jail bars
© ReutersA global outlier in criminal justice, the US undermines itself on the world stage when it engages in human rights abuses against its prisoners, write Love and Das.
On this day 69 years ago the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, sketching the foundation of human rights law. Led by Eleanor Roosevelt, the United States played a critical role in bringing 48 nations together to enumerate a set of core individual rights and freedoms that we all reference to this day.

Unfortunately today the US struggles to live up to these ideals it helped create. The punitive nature of American criminal justice deserves international censure. The US has emerged as the global capital of mass incarceration, and its sentencing laws must be examined.

Although it calls itself the "land of the free," the US maintains a draconian sentencing scheme, sending more people to prison than any other nation. While it touts its own human rights record and lectures other nations on their human rights shortcomings, its voracious appetite for life sentences without parole is an embarrassment that fails to live up to the lofty rhetoric of the US Constitution, and falls far short of international standards.

The sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, or LWOP, is just as the term implies. A person will remain behind bars for the rest of his or her life and until death, without any hope of release from prison. A cruel form of punishment often referred to as "the other death penalty," LWOP violates international human rights norms.

A Swedish municipality has set forth a historic proposal called "integration duty," under which immigrants must meet certain obligations - or risk forfeiting some of the privileges and benefits they currently enjoy.

Under the "integration duty" proposal railroaded by the Conservatives in the Vellinge municipal council in Skåne County, the new arrivals must make progress in basic Swedish designed for immigrants and complete a course in society orientation. Those failing to comply or show involvement may risk having their benefits canceled.

Kate Steinle Memorial March in Portland attacked by Antifa

antifa riot portland

Portland, Oregon based Patriot Prayer attempted to hold a rally and march in honor of Kate Steinle on Saturday.

And of course Antifa Communists just had to show up to cause trouble.

Patriot Prayer is led by Joey Gibson, and generally regarded as the area's main collection of Trump supporters. Two brawls break out and Antifa basically get their butts handed to them as they try to pick fights.

Note the guy in the blue Navy hoodie, single handedly taking on about 8 antifa agitators. Also note the police rush in to break it up after about 30 seconds, when it's clear the Trump people are winning.

Comment: The Steinle verdict was a true miscarriage of justice, so it isn't any wonder that those of conscience would want to march to bring it some attention. But Antifa, never ones to let an opportunity to beat on Trump supporters go to waste, just can't leave it alone.

Number of Islamist sympathizers 'at an all-time high', warns German intelligence chief

German intelligence chief Hans-Georg Maassen has said that the security services are facing a record number of Islamists. The news comes as world leaders announce the defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria, potentially prompting an exodus of fighters.

The number of Islamist sympathizers is at an "an all-time high", Maassen, the president of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), said on Sunday. The number has gone up from 9,700 to 10,800 over the past year, with the fundamentalists increasingly abandoning radicalization in mosques in favor of "small conspiratorial circles, primarily on the internet," which is proving a "particular challenge" for the security services. The splitting up of Islamist groups into smaller factions has also made them more difficult to monitor, Maassen added.

Salafists follow an ultra-conservative, fundamentalist interpretation of Islam, and Salafist organizations such as Hizb ut-Tahrir see Western-style democracy as incompatible with the rule of God, instead seeking to live under Sharia law. This might not necessarily make them prone to terrorism or violence, but their beliefs provide the spiritual basis for groups like al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS).

Maassen highlighted Salafists coming from Chechnya and the North Caucasus as a particular threat, due to their wide-ranging networks and combat experience both in the insurgency against Russia and their fighting on behalf of Islamic State in the Middle East.

'Ominous' signs that Lindsay Shepherd's job, not free speech, is target of Laurier probe

The investigation was called despite the lawyer in charge saying there is not 'anything I would describe as a formal complaint under any WLU policy' against Shepherd

Lindsay Shepherd
There are "ominous" signs that Wilfrid Laurier University's independent fact-finding investigation of the Lindsay Shepherd affair is aiming its guns at none other than Lindsay Shepherd herself.

Shepherd is the 22-year-old graduate student and teaching assistant who last month was reamed out by her supervisors for having shown two classes a video excerpt of the controversial University of Toronto psychology professor Dr. Jordan Peterson discussing the new gender-neutral pronouns in a televised debate.

Japan's intense work culture may be put to the test by a new drone, circling over the heads of over-industrious employees and blasting out loud music in an attempt to make them go home.

On Thursday, the companies Taisei, NTT East and Blue Innovation unveiled their new T-Frend drone, which hovers around the heads of workers clocking in overtime. It plays Auld Lang Syne, an 18th century Scottish ballad better known in Japan for telling shop customers it's closing time.

"You can't really work when you think 'it's coming over any time now' and hear Auld Lang Syne along with the buzz," Taisei director Norihiro Kato told AFP.

Russia's ski jumping team has unanimously voted for taking part in the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea's PyeongChang under the neutral flag, President of the Russian Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Federation Dmitry Dubrovsky told TASS on Sunday.

"Members of the Russian ski jumping team held a general meeting and unanimously voted to taking part in the Olympic Games under the neutral flag. I think our Nordic combined athletes share this opinion. They simply cannot gather together now. Moreover, the presidium of our federation on Friday spoke in favor of participation of our athletes in the 2018 Olympics. We informed the Association of Olympic Winter Sports about our position," he said.
