Taiwan's "newer, faster" train derails, killing 18 and injuring 160, rescue continues

taiwan train crash october 2018
Eighteen people were killed and at least 160 others injured on Sunday when one of Taiwan's newer, faster trains derailed on a curve along a popular weekend route, officials said.

The Puyuma express train was carrying more than 366 passengers from a suburb of Taipei toward Taitung, a city on Taiwan's southeast coast, when it went off the tracks at 4:50 p.m., the Taiwan central government said in a statement.

The National Fire Agency cited the Cabinet spokesman's office as saying 18 people were killed and 160 injured.

Some passengers were crushed to death, Ministry of National Defense spokesman Chen Chung-chi said. "Their train car turned over. They were crushed, so they died right away," Chen said.

Soldiers have been removing bodies to identify them, he added, but nightfall was complicating rescue work.

Flashback Stealth immigration: Industry & academia hide a workforce of 100K lower-wage foreign white-collar H-1B employees

H1-B immigration
Industry executives and university advocates have successfully duped nearly every reporter, editor and anchor nationwide about the scale and purpose of the H-1B professional outsourcing program.

The journalists-and Americans-have been kept in the dark while universities and many allied name-brand companies have quietly imported an extra workforce of at least 100,000 lower-wage foreign professionals in place of higher-wage American graduates, above the supposed annual cap of 85,000 new H-1Bs.

Less than one-sixth of these extra 100,000 outsourced hires are the so-called "high-tech" computer experts that dominate media coverage of the contentious H-1B private-sector outsourcing debate.

Instead, the universities' off-the-books H-1B hires include 21,754 professors, lecturers and instructors, 20,566 doctors, clinicians and therapists, 25,175 researchers, post-docs and biologists, plus 30,000 financial planners, p.r. experts, writers, editors, sports coaches, designers, accountants, economists, statisticians, lawyers, architects, computer experts and much else.

See here for an NPR story on H-1B outsourced jobs sought by young American female scientists.

These white-collar guest-workers are not immigrants - they are foreign professionals hired at low wages for six years to take outsourced, white-collar jobs in the United States. Many hope to stay in the United States, but most guest-workers return home after six years. The universities have zero legal obligation to recruit Americans for the jobs given to the foreign professionals. There's good evidence that the H-1B graduates cut payroll costs, and there's little or no evidence that they create additional jobs or file additional patents.

A Ryanair passenger was captured on camera verbally abusing a black woman who had the misfortune to be seated near him. In video of the incident, the man unleashes a torrent of racist abuse as other passengers look on in horror.

Footage of the outburst was shared by passenger David Lawrence who filmed the incident on Friday on Ryanair flight FR9015 from Barcelona to London. It has been viewed nearly 2 million times on Facebook and shared by over 24,000 social media users.

The clip shows cabin crew attempting to calm the irate passenger down as he continues to hurl racist abuse at the woman, calling her an "ugly, black b*****d".

"I tell you what, I hope someone sits there because I don't want to sit next to your ugly face, your ugly f*****g face," he shouted. When the woman attempted to respond quietly he screamed: "Don't talk to me in a f*****g foreign language you stupid ugly cow."

Bar complaint filed against Blasey Ford's lawyers for violating rules of professional responsibility

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch filed a bar complaint against Christine Blasey Ford's lawyers on Friday.

Judicial Watch argued Christine Ford's lawyers, Debra Katz and Michael Bromwich neglected to inform their client she could have been interviewed about the sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh in the privacy of her own home in California rather than a public hearing in D.C.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) offered to arrange interviewers to travel to California to give Ford the privacy she wanted, yet her lawyers never informed her of the option.

Mexico plans to grant 100 humanitarian visas daily to caravan of migrants massed at southern border

Honduran migrants
Mexican immigration authorities will begin granting humanitarian visas to a caravan of 3,000 migrants massed at the country's southern border, but only in small groups each day, according to Mexico's ambassador to Guatemala.

Ambassador Luis Manuel Lopez Moreno said Friday that border officials will allow 100 migrants per day to cross into Mexico, where their asylum petitions will be reviewed. Migrants whose cases are approved will be given asylum visas, which allow them to continue their journey to any point northward, including the U.S.-Mexico border.

The highly publicized caravan of mostly Honduran migrants began arriving at Mexico's border with Guatemala on Thursday, about a week after it set out from the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula. Initially numbering fewer than 200 people, the caravan quickly swelled to more than 3,000 as it trekked through Honduras and into Guatemala.

USA, here we come! Wave of 4,000 migrants breaks through Mexico's southern border, headed north

Migrants
Mexico has opened its border to women and children from the thousands-strong migrant caravan that has been attempting to cross from Guatemala and eventually into the US, AFP reports.

The migrants, who are mostly from Honduras, are ultimately trying to reach the United States, despite President Donald Trump's threat that the military would be called to the US-Mexican border if the "onslaught" is not stopped.

Organizers say that some 4,000 migrants are part of the caravan that arrived at Mexico's border on Friday. Photos showed the bridge between the two countries packed full of people, with many resorting to jumping in the river below after being blocked by Mexican riot police.

Comment: Oops, looks like the mighty Mexican army was no match for this 'invading force'...

Ottawa is in the process of resettling a group of White Helmets members who had to leave Syria, Canada's Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

"Together with a core group of international allies, Canada is working to resettle a group of White Helmets and their families after they had to flee Syria as a result of being specifically targeted by the Syrian regime and its backer, Russia," the release said on Friday.

Security screening is completed before members of the Syrian civil defense group can fly to Canada as refugees, the ministry said.

Comment: Canada is just one of many Western partners that choses its reality. White Helmets are a fiction identified and supported as truth.

Scott Adams predicted Trump's 2016 win and now reveals his 2018 election forecast

Scott Adams and Trump
With just over two weeks left to go until the big game, it's anybody's guess on which team will emerge victorious on Tuesday, November 6th with control of Congress hanging in the balance.

The professional pollsters, prognosticators, pundits and legions of experts who predicted that Donald Trump didn't have a chance in hell of winning the presidency were proven wrong and given their lamentable track record, it's hard to take their predictions of that "blue wave" seriously.

One of those who got it right when he accurately predicted that the iconoclastic billionaire outsider would shock the world by defeating the heavily favored Hillary Clinton was persuasion guru Scott Adams who called it right as early as March 2016 when he made the call that Trump would win in a landslide.

The reason for his bold prediction? That unlike Mrs. Clinton, Trump was a master persuader with an ability to transcend politics as usual.
