Millions of unvaccinated Canadians holding out hope US land border travel restrictions would expire at midnight Thursday will have to continue to wait.

Temporary travel restrictions were put in place January 22 and, according to the Federal Registry, were set to expire Thursday at midnight unless amended.

However, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) updated its guidance for travellers early Thursday morning before the restrictions expired.

"As of Thursday, April 21, 2022, DHS will extend COVID-19-related land border entry requirements," reads the update to the DHS guidance for travellers fact sheet.

"Non-US travellers seeking to enter the United States via land ports of entry and ferry terminals at the US-Mexico and US-Canada borders are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination upon request."

Toronto Zoo begins COVID-19 vaccinations on 120 animals

The Toronto Zoo says it will begin vaccinating certain susceptible animals within its facilities against the virus that causes COVID-19.

In a news release, the zoo said it has received 320 doses of vaccine from Zoetis, a veterinary pharmaceutical company based New Jersey, and that staff will soon start immunizing about 120 animals in their care. Each animal requires two doses taken two to three weeks apart, the zoo said.

The specific animals selected for vaccination against COVID-19 were chosen based on a list "developed through on-going research and reports of positive cases" among animals at other zoos around the world.

Comment: Lest we forget the Covid tests are inaccurate, with a papaya even testing positive.

Comment: We know that the experimental Covid vaccination campaigns in humans actually caused coronavirus cases to soar and for people to suffer multiple infections, as well as a variety of side effects reported in significant numbers of people, some incredibly severe, including death; and that's the least we can expect to happen, because there could be other much more concerning unforeseen consequences:

Germany evicts Afghan refugees to make way for Ukrainians

Afghan refugees living in Germany after the NATO withdrawal that left their country in shambles are now being evicted from their homes in order to make way for newly arriving refugees from Ukraine, according to Foreign Policy.

Hundreds of Afghans have received eviction notices from authorities over this period, with some being ordered to leave within 24 hours, without any questions or negotiation. Tareq Alaows, a board member of the Berlin Refugee Council stated:
"The evictions purposefully weren't publicized. Some people had lived in their homes for years and were ripped out of their social structures, including children who were moved to locations far from their respective schools. Few people's living conditions improved, but most were afraid to speak up, afraid it could impact their immigration status."
Germany is justifying these evictions by claiming that the Afghans were evicted from what authorities are calling "arrival centers" where they should supposedly be staying for a short term. However, some families have been living there for years, while others were living in places other than arrival centers. Some of these families have had to move multiple times since being evicted.

Germany only offered apologies to the refugees, claiming Ukrainians needed a roof over their heads and a bed, and that the evicted Afghans were given other "permanent" accommodation of equivalent quality.

Comment: If it is equivalent, why isn't Germany placing Ukrainians 'there'?

Comment: Headlines for Germany? Preferred company a historic trait. Lessers just disappear.

Palestine's widening geography of resistance: Why Israel cannot defeat the Palestinians

Police Tel Aviv
© Stringer/Anadolu AgencyPolice officers take security measures after a shooting in Tel Aviv • April 2022
There is a reason why Israel is insistent on linking the series of attacks carried out by Palestinians recently to a specific location, namely the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank. By doing so, the embattled Naftali Bennett's government can simply order another deadly military operation in Jenin to reassure its citizens that the situation is under control.

Indeed, on 9 April, the Israeli army had stormed the Jenin refugee camp, killing a Palestinian and wounding ten others. However, Israel's problem is much bigger than Jenin.

If we examine the events starting with the 22 March stabbing attack in the southern city of Beersheba (Bir Al Saba') - which resulted in the death of four - and ending with the killing of three Israelis in Tel Aviv - including two army officers - we will reach an obvious conclusion: these attacks must have been, to some extent, coordinated.

Spontaneous Palestinian retaliation to the violence of the Israeli occupation rarely follows this pattern in terms of timing or style. All the attacks, with the exception of Beersheba, were carried out using firearms. The shooters, as indicated by the amateur videos of some of the events and statements by Israeli eyewitnesses, were well-trained and were acting with great composure.

DeSantis signs 'Stop WOKE Act' into law to restrict race discussions in Florida

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday signed into law what he has branded the "Stop WOKE Act," which restricts how race is discussed in schools, colleges and workplaces, and sparked a nationwide debate over censorship, critical race theory and diversity training.

The Legislature approved the measure in March along mostly party-line votes. The bill (HB 7) prohibits any teaching that could make students feel they bear personal responsibility for historic wrongs because of their race, color, sex or national origin.

It also blocks businesses from using diversity practices or training that could make employees feel guilty for similar reasons.

"We believe an important component of freedom in the state of Florida is the freedom from having oppressive ideologies imposed upon you without your consent," DeSantis said. "Whether it be in the classroom or in the workplace. And we decided to do something about it."

Comment: RT reports on DeSantis' revocation of Disney's special privileges in Florida:
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law on Friday that strips Walt Disney World of its special tax status and self-government in the state. The move was made amid a public spat with Disney over a separate law that bans certain discussions on gender and sexual orientation in schools.

The new law abolishes the "independent special districts" created before 1968, including the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a 25,000-acre property in central Florida where the Disney theme park is located.

Under a 1967 arrangement, Disney was allowed to operate as a county government on its own property, building and maintaining municipal services such as electricity, water and roads, and essentially taxing itself.

DeSantis framed the law as eliminating "special interest carveouts," and has argued that Florida's state constitution, revised in 1968, bans "special laws granting privileges to private corporations."

Meanwhile, DeSantis and Disney have been trading jabs over Florida's Parental Rights in Education Act, which was signed into law this month. The legislation, dubbed the 'Don't Say Gay' bill by opponents, bans classroom discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity for students in kindergarten through third grade.

Disney, known for its pro-LGBTQ stance, vowed to fight for the law to be struck down in the courts. DeSantis responded by saying that Florida law is "not based on the demands of California corporate executives." Disney's corporate headquarters is in Burbank, California.

Twenty-six governors, all Republican, announced the creation of a Border Strike Force to "disrupt and dismantle transnational criminal organizations" on April 19.

The group of governors signed a Memorandum of Understanding, pledging to work together to "serve as a force multiplier to target cartels and criminal networks financially and operationally."
"Together, governors will improve public safety, protect victims from horrific crimes, reduce the amount of drugs in our communities, and alleviate the humanitarian crisis at the Southern Border," the agreement states.

Florida releases four examples from the 54 math textbooks rejected for containing banned CRT topics

The Florida Department of Education released four examples of banned material from the 54 math textbooks it rejected from its curriculum on Thursday, including one that shows a bar graph measuring racial prejudice.

The state DOE had garnered criticism for tossing out 41 percent of the 132 math textbooks submitted for the next school year last week without listing the rejected books, more than half of which the agency said referenced Critical Race Theory (CRT) with the rest containing Common Core and Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Of the lessons considered unacceptable in the state was the use of bar graphs that measures levels of racial prejudice based on age and political identity and asks students to solve equations based on the findings.

Crime statistics show different outcomes in Jacksonville and Los Angeles as their top prosecutors follow different strategies.
Progressive criminal justice reforms have coincided with rising violence in big US cities

By targeting known violent criminals and seeking stiff penalties for the worst offenders, a Republican Florida prosecutor has reduced violent crime in her community as big cities with Democratic district attorneys around the country, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, are witnessing crime spikes.

"In 2021, Jacksonville's murders were down 30% and overall shootings down 17% from the year prior, according to [Jacksonville Sheriff's Office] data for non-domestic shooting incidents," David Chapman, a spokesperson for the Fourth Circuit State Attorney's Office, told Fox News Digital. "Given last year's downturn, our numbers to date aren't far off the mark and thankfully have not spiked like other cities."

The Fourth Circuit covers Clay, Nassau and Duval counties and the city of Jacksonville and is led by State Attorney Melissa Nelson, who made waves for finding new ways to prosecute known criminals, such as pursuing firearms charges in connection with guns flaunted in music videos. She has sought stiffer sentences for people convicted of gun crimes.

Shanghai's government on Thursday began installing electronic door alarms on some residences to prevent people from leaving their homes while the city's entire populace remains under a state-mandated Chinese coronavirus lockdown, China's state-run Global Times reported on Friday.

"Those who are required to quarantine at home will have sensors placed on their doors," Shanghai's government said on April 21. The stipulation was made in a municipal notice issued late Thursday night that went into immediate effect upon its release.

The BBC on Friday also reported on Shanghai's newly escalated lockdown measures, noting they would "include placing electronic door alarms to prevent those infected from leaving."

The door alarms are part of the Shanghai government's newly tightened rules for the urban center's ongoing lockdown, which began on April 5 and applies to all of the city's nearly 26 million residents.

A social credit system aimed at modifying climate change behaviors is being deployed in Italy

digital id
Italy will become the first European nation to implement a social credit system - where citizens will be rewarded for their "good behavior".

Starting in the fall of 2022, the city of Bologna will begin a new pilot project. Citizens who display good behavior such as correctly recycling or using public transportation will be rewarded.

The Bologna municipality is deploying a "Smart Citizen Wallet" which will be the primary method for citizens to collect digital coins in exchange for behavioral changes. Based on the given scores, a person can also receive discounts for local shops.

The primary argument for this program is to "save resources" and promote climate friendly behavior.

As reported by Bologna Today, Massimo Bugani, the councilor for the digital agenda in the northern city, said that while no one will be forced to use this application, he expects a high user uptake. In its current state, the system will not be tied to others, such as online identification and social media usage.
