UK working to prevent peace - Moscow

Maria Zakharova
© Sputnik/Russian Foreign MinistryRussian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
A security agreement signed last week is further proof that London is maintaining a firm grip on the Kiev government and is working to prevent any prospect of peace, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.

On Friday, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced a £2.5 billion ($3.2 billion) military assistance package for Ukraine - Britain's largest to date. The two sides also signed a ten-year security guarantee, with the UK pledging "swift and sustained" aid for Ukraine in the event of a Russian attack in future. Kiev also promised to come to Britain's defense in the event of Russian "aggression" against the country.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Zakharova suggested that the deal was an indication that "Ukraine is literally being stripped of any chance to get out of the conflict through negotiations." As a result, Kiev is being turned into "a bargaining chip in the reckless ventures of the Anglo-Saxons," she added, claiming that the UK wants to keep the country in conflict with Russia.

She also ridiculed Ukraine's commitment to defend the UK. "No sane person would believe that. The regime of [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky is crying in every corner that, if not one more dollar ... is transferred to it, Ukraine will cease to exist. And under these conditions, Ukraine undertakes to help Britain in the event of a military threat to the kingdom."

Comment: Kiev's promise to help protect Britain is definitely one of the most laughable commitments ever to be committed to paper.

Best of the Web: Davos' debauched underbelly: How the global 'elite' indulge in cocaine, caviar and champagne at secret 'bunga bunga' parties at World Economic Forum

Comment: Eyes Wide Open...

Meanwhile, Ukraine pushed ahead with its peace formula to end nearly two years of war with Russia with a meeting of national security advisers from around the world in Davos on Sunday
Once a year, global elites from all sectors attend a five-day conference in the snow-capped town of Davos, Switzerland - which is supplemented by caviar, champagne, and all types of debauchery after hard work is over.

The World Economic Forum 2024 is kicking off this week, with world leaders and business executives convening for discussions and events surrounding the most prominent issues of the day.

The theme this year is 'Rebuilding Trust' - and will be attended by 3,000 guests.

EU wants Hungary stripped of voting rights for blocking Ukraine accession, Slovakia backs calls for review of Kiev-junta aid

Ursula von der Leyen
© EPA-EFE/OLIVIER HOSLETHungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attend the second day of an EU Council meeting in Brussels.
Most political groups in the European Parliament want a probe into the European Commission's decision to unfreeze EU funds for Hungary, followed by a lawsuit in the EU's top court and a possible motion of censure, while also urging the Council to strip Hungary's voting rights over its rule of law deficiencies.

The Commission released €10.2 billion of funding for Hungary on 13 December, on the eve of an EU summit on support for Ukraine, in the hope of defusing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's threat to derail the negotiations and block the start of accession talks with Kyiv.

Although the green light had been expected, it quickly sparked outrage, with EU lawmakers accusing the Commission of giving in to Hungary's "blackmail".

Comment: Unsurprisingly hypocritical comments considering the Parliament and the Commission attempt to blackmail and coerce Hungary, and all others, who dare defy their agenda. Except the Eurocrats are often worse, because, repeatedly, the money they threaten to withhold has nothing to do with the issue they're objecting to; such as when they threatened to withhold lockdown funds from Hungary because Budapest objected to the EU's LGBT+ propaganda legislation.

Comment: Associated Press reports:
Slovakia's leader voices support for Hungary's Orbán in EU negotiations on funding for Ukraine

The leaders of Hungary and Slovakia on Tuesday said they agree on the need to rework a European Union plan to provide financial assistance to Ukraine. It's a potential boon to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who last month derailed EU efforts to approve the funding for the war-ravaged country.

Indeed it is; and the US-UK-EU evidently want to add to the Kiev-juntas 500,000 dead troops, with the disabled, pensioners, and even women, now on the front line of the meat grinder: To the last Ukrainian: Kiev begins doomed conscription scheme

Following bilateral talks in Budapest, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico said he agrees with Orbán's position that the EU should not finance a planned 50 billion euro ($54 billion) aid package to Kyiv from the bloc's common budget, and echoed Orbán's assertions that the war in Ukraine cannot be resolved through military means.

"We have listened very carefully to the proposals that Prime Minister (Orbán) ... has already put forward in relation to the review of the budget and aid to Ukraine, and I will repeat that we consider them to be rational and sensible," Fico said.

Fico's comments come as the EU scrambles to salvage the funding package for Ukraine that Orbán blocked in December, a move that angered many of the bloc's leaders who were aiming to provide Kyiv with a consistent cash flow for the next four years.

Unanimity is required for decisions affecting the EU budget, and Orbán was the only one of the bloc's 27 leaders to vote against the funding.

"If we want to help Ukraine, which I think we need to do ... we must do so without damaging the EU budget," Orbán said on Tuesday.

EU leaders are expected to meet again on Feb. 1 to attempt a deal on the financial package, but Orbán's veto power remains a factor.

On Tuesday, Fico said he supports Orbán's recommendation that the funding be separated into four installments that could be reassessed, and potentially blocked, each year.

"I look forward to seeing you soon on Feb. 1 in Brussels, where we will watch with full understanding your legitimate fight for what you started at the last European Council," Fico told Orbán.

A populist whose party won September elections on a pro-Russian and anti-American platform, Fico is seen as a potential ally for Orbán in the latter's longstanding disputes with the EU.

The bloc has withheld billions in funding from Budapest over concerns that Orbán's government has cracked down on judicial independence, media freedom and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

On Tuesday, Fico cited the withheld funds as a justification for Orbán's opposition to EU funding for Ukraine.

"They cannot expect a country from which funds have been withdrawn to give money to another country. That is simply not possible. It is not fair, it is not just," Fico said.
It might be little consolation, but there are a few sane voices in the EU, including this recent condemnation calling out "Butcher Biden" and "Genocidal Germany,":

Russia strikes African military cooperation agreement with Niger

Moscow says it is willing to improve Nigerien troops "combat readiness" in response to insecurity in the Sahel region

Russia and Niger have agreed to develop military cooperation and work together to stabilize the security situation in the West African Sahel region, which has been plagued by jihadist violence for more than a decade.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the decision on Tuesday, following talks in Moscow between Nigerien defense chief Salifou Modi and his Russian counterparts, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and Alexander Fomin.

"Positive trends in the growth of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation were observed during the discussions, and potential areas of cooperation were underlined," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"...Emphasis was placed on the Russian Ministry of Defense's willingness to maintain positive communication with its allies in Niger in order to improve combat readiness of the Republic of Niger's Armed Forces," it added.

Comment: An alternative to the unipolar world has come in the form of the BRICS+countries and it has encouraged the people of the global South in particular to get rid of their former colonial masters, who still very much ruled the countries in all but name.

Existential angst of the multipolar world: West cannot let Russia win says Macron

Macron
© Ludovic MARIN / AFPFrance's President Emmanuel Macron gestures as he speaks during a press conference at The Elysee Palace in Paris on January 16, 2024.
French president Emmanuel Macron has announced new deliveries of long-range missiles and bombs to Kiev, while insisting the West "cannot let Russia win" the conflict with Ukraine. He added that he will visit the country next month.

Speaking at a press conference at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Tuesday, the French leader reiterated that his country will continue to assist Ukraine. Amid criticism that France has not been doing enough to help Kiev, Macron said Paris would send 40 SCALP air-launched cruise missiles, which have a range of more than 250km, as well as "hundreds of bombs."

Local media, citing French officials, reported that the president was referring to munitions equipped with the AASM, or HAMMER module, which transforms ordinary bombs into precision-guided weapons with a range of up to 70km. Russia has repeatedly accused Kiev of using Western-supplied long-range weapons to target civilian infrastructure.

Macron added that he would visit Ukraine in February to finalize a bilateral security agreement with Kiev, similar to the one the country recently signed with the UK. The ten-year deal between the two, which was announced last week, guarantees Britain's "swift and sustained security assistance" to Ukraine in the event of a future Russian attack, while outlining numerous other support measures.

Comment: All the Western leaders are lining up in Kiev where they one by one are signing bilateral security agreements, which likely are not worth the paper it is written on. They do signal though that NATO likely will share the fate which will befall Ukraine.

Comment: As to the reason why France can not let Russia win, Macron feared for the rules based on. The Russian spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Affairs commented:

Reviving ISIS: A US weapon against the Resistance Axis

Biden isis
Is it a coincidence that the world's foremost terror organization is being revived just as the US struggles under a multi-front assault on its hegemony in West Asia? More curiously, both ISIS and Washington's targets are exactly the same.

Iraqi security sources are warning of an ISIS revival in the country, which coincides all too neatly with the spike in Iraqi resistance operations against US bases in Iraq and Syria, and with widening regional instability caused by Israel's military assault on Gaza.

More than six years after declaring victory over the terrorist organization, Iraqi intelligence reports now indicate that thousands of ISIS fighters are emerging unscathed, under the protection of US forces in two regions of western Iraq.

The missing piece of the puzzle

According to intelligence reports reviewed by The Cradle, at its height, ISIS consisted of more than 35,000 fighters in Iraq - 25,000 of these were killed, while more than 10,000 simply "disappeared."

China urges Pakistan, Iran to show 'restraint' after Tehran's airstrike against terrorist group on shared border

Both countries asked to avoid actions that will lead to escalation of tension, work together to maintain peace
China has asked Pakistan and Iran to exercise "restraint", following Islamabad's claim that Tehran had launched an airstrike on its territory that resulted in the deaths of two children.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told a routine briefing on Wednesday, "We call on both sides to exercise restraint, avoid actions that would lead to an escalation of tension and work together to maintain peace and stability."

"We consider both Iran and Pakistan as close neighbours and major Islamic countries," she said.

Comment: At the current WEF meeting in Davos, Iran's FM commented on the incident - as the transcript is not currently available, a summary has been provided by X accounts below:
Foreign Minister of Iran, Amir Abdullahian at the Davos Summit: "Before this meeting, I talked with my Pakistani counterpart about this attack." None of the Pakistani citizens were targeted by Iranian missiles/drones. We targeted the Jaish al-Adl terrorist group, who've been sheltering inside Pakistan's Baluchistan. Iran discussed this matter with Pakistani officials and authorities on numerous occasions, on responding against this terrorist group, on Pakistani soil.

Iran's FM says I assured my Pakistani counterpart that we respect Pakistan's territorial sovereignty, but we will not allow anyone to threaten our national security. Our target has been Iranian terrorists in Pakistan and not Pakistani citizens We consider the security of Iraq and Pakistan as the security of Iran

EU President calls for Globalist control over all information

ursula and klaus
Tells Davos elite that their top priority should be "industrial-scale disinformation".

President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen addressed elites at the World Economic Forum in Davos Tuesday, calling for overarching globalist control over the flow of all information in the digital age.

"The top concern for the next two years is not conflict, or climate, it is disinformation and misinformation," von der Leyen proclaimed, adding "The boundary between online and offline is getting thinner and thinner, and this is even more important in the era of generative AI."

Comment: Despite the rhetoric, the WEF is antithetical to freedom in any form. They are a fascist organization attempting to exert control over the citizens of planet Earth. For them disinformation and misinformation is anything that counters the narratives they try to exert on the populace.

Zelensky threatens Putin's grandchildren

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has threatened Russian President Vladimir Putin's entire family with "criminal trials" and long prison sentences, during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday.

Zelensky's address to the gathering of aspiring global leaders focused on asking for more weapons, money, and ammunition so he could continue to fight Russia. At one point, however, he made a reference to the Russian leader's family.

Putin will not "rest in peace, both in this world and in the next," said Zelensky. "Neither his children, nor his grandchildren."

Comment: Not surprising but it's a low blow nonetheless.

Lloyd Austin RELEASED from hospital after 15 days: Defense secretary heads home after secretive trip during his 'prostate cancer treatment'

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, 70, was hospitalized on January 1 and released on January 15th. He is pictured December 20 in this most recent pic .
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was released from Walter Reed Medical Center on Monday after 15 days in the hospital due to complications from his prostate cancer surgery.

'The secretary continues to recover well and, on the advice of doctors, will recuperate and perform his duties remotely for a period of time from home,' the Pentagon said in a statement.

He will have to do physical therapy and regular follow ups but is expected to make a full recovery, his doctors said. He needs no further treatment for his cancer.

Comment: As was stated in the comments on this article, this whole story stinks to high heaven. Too many questions remain unanswered. It seems rather obvious that the prostate cancer narrative is covering for something.
