Scott Adams: We're witnessing the slow-motion assassination of Trump

comey headline
I saw this quote on CNN.com today: "The episode is the latest woe for Trump, whose administration is engulfed in a series of scandals linked to Russia."

A "series of scandals linked to Russia"? Would it be equally accurate to characterize it as a series of stories manufactured by the media, none of which have been confirmed to be a big deal?

Today's headline news is that an alleged Comey memo indicates President Trump tried to obstruct justice in the Flynn investigation by saying to Comey in a private meeting, "I hope you can let this go."

Key word = hope

How did the New York Times characterize Trump's expression of hope?

Do you see Trump asking Comey to end the Flynn investigation in the quote "I hope you can let this go"?

Claims that US intel partnerships were jeopardized by 'Trumpleak' are groundless, here's why...

Intel cogs
© WhoWhatWhy"US Cognition"
No country will risk its valuable intelligence partnership with the US because of something Donald Trump might have said to the Russians. One of the most commonly made claims about 'Trumpleak' is that President Trump's supposedly feckless leaking of intelligence information provided to the US by another country will shake that country's confidence in the US's ability to keep its secrets.

On the facts of 'Trumpleak' itself this claim is nonsense, and as I have carefully explained the 'anonymous current and former officials' who make this claim don't believe it themselves.

As a general principle however, even if 'Trumpleak' were as bad as is being alleged - which it isn't - there would be no risk of any country that shares intelligence with the US walking away in a huff and in future refusing to share intelligence with the US. The claim that such a risk exists (made for example today by both the Financial Times and the Guardian) is not so much empty as non-existent since it completely misrepresents the whole nature of the intelligence partnerships which exist between the US and other countries allied to it.

The key fact about these intelligence partnerships is that the US is always and invariably the overwhelmingly dominant partner. The reason for this is because the US's worldwide intelligence operation dwarf those of every other country with which it is allied. Not one of these countries - not Britain with MI6 and GCHQ, not Israel with Mossad and Shin Beth, not Germany with the BND - comes close.

Comment: The concentration of intel gathering in the depository of the US, should be a frightening prospect. Too much power concentrated means absolute power absolutely.

Ex-spy chief lambastes Microsoft for leaving Windows XP users vulnerable to cyberattacks

A former UK spy chief has hit out at Microsoft for cutting support for its Windows XP system that could have protected public services from massive cyberattacks such as the one that paralyzed the National Health Service (NHS) last week.

In a letter to the Times, Sir David Omand, former head of Britain's electronic intelligence agency GCHQ, called into question Microsoft's decision to withdraw its security services for the system in 2014 while private and public sectors around the world still relied on it. "Should Microsoft have stopped supporting Windows XP so soon, knowing that institutions had invested heavily in it (at the urging of the company at the time)?" Omand queried.

NHS hospitals were brought to a standstill on Friday by a massive cyberattack that struck in 150 countries. The NHS has 70,000 devices operating Windows XP, through which the ransomware, known as Wanna Decryptor or WannaCry, managed to spread.

The WannaCry ransomware attack was slowed down by self-taught cybersecurity researcher Marcus Hutchins, 22, while he was working in his bedroom at his parents' house in north Devon. Hutchins, who is known as MalwareTech on Twitter, has been hailed an "accidental hero."

Comment: Who's to know which entities and companies are in cahoots with, or just compromised by, the intelligence networks all over the world. Think of it as one root and many stems. The end-users are billions of necessary victims in order for the 'deep' system to control and thrive.

Putin offers Washington red pill in Trump leaks scandal - Washington chooses blue pill

In an extraordinary moment this week, Russian leader Vladimir Putin offered Washington a challenge to discover the truth over sensational US media claims that President Trump had leaked top-secret information to Russia. Washington rebuffed Putin's offer.

It was akin to the iconic scene in the sci-fi movie, The Matrix, in which protagonists are offered a red or blue pill. Consuming the former leads them to awaken to the truth, however painful that awakening might be from shattering erstwhile illusions. Ingesting the alternative blue pill allows one to continue in a state of illusion, albeit in the form of slavery to The Matrix.

The US media this week went into overdrive with claims that President Donald Trump disclosed highly classified information during his meeting last week in the White House with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Those claims of Trump talking about highly sensitive intelligence on the Islamic State terror group in Syria were rejected by the White House and separately by the Kremlin.

Trump's top National Security Adviser General H.R. McMaster has since repeatedly denied US media reports of Trump's alleged indiscretion in front of his Russian guests. McMaster called them "false."

Off leash: Nikki Haley threatens other countries with sanctions regarding North Korea: 'You're with us or against us'

North Korea's missile and nuclear tests pose a threat to every country in the world, and the international community has to make a choice between supporting Pyongyang and facing the wrath of Washington, said US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley. "This is a true threat to every country in the world," Haley told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York on Monday, flanked by the ambassadors of Japan and South Korea. "Right now, North Korea is trying to pose a threat in every way possible," she added.

Comment: "Ambassador" Haley is promising the wrath of Washington? Issuing an ultimatum? And speaking for cowering countries all over the world?

Echoing her earlier comments, calling North Korean leader Kim Jong-un "paranoid," Haley said that Pyongyang had no reason to be hostile, as the US was not trying to assassinate him or organize regime change. "For peace on the Korean peninsula, he has to stop this testing - he has to stop any nuclear programs that he has," Haley said, adding that the US would be "willing to talk" only if North Korea stopped all of its nuclear and missile tests. In the meantime, however, US troops will continue to drill along the border between the Koreas, and "have the back" of South Korea and Japan, she added.

"The US is not past looking at third-country entities who are helping North Korea, and putting sanctions on them," Haley said, sending a pointed message to the UN members. Washington intends to "tighten the screws" on North Korea and apply every kind of economic, diplomatic, and political pressure, she added. "If you are a country that is supplying or supporting North Korea, we will call you out on that," Haley said. "And we will target those sanctions towards you as well. You either support North Korea, or you support us," she said. "You have to choose, you have to pick a side."

Comment: Of course! Let's polarize the whole globe, back North Korea into a tight little corner, huff and puff on its border, and hope for the best. This plan is not a mind changer - it validates and reinforces Kim's position. It is a game changer, and not a particularly good one at that.

McMaster criticizes intelligence agencies leaking info to media - "National security is put at risk"

President Donald Trump's National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster criticized the intelligence community for leaking information about the president's communications with the Russians.

"I think national security is put at risk by this leak and by leaks like this," he said. "And there are a number of instances where this has occurred and I think it's important to investigate these sort of things."

McMaster defended the president's decision to share intelligence about Islamic State terrorists with Russian diplomats during a meeting in the Oval Office last week.

Despite growing Democratic and media hysteria over the leaked information about Trump's decision, McMaster reassured Americans that it was "wholly appropriate."

Macedonia's President surrenders to Socialist leader Zaev and Albanian radicals

Gjorge Ivanov

The move puts Macedonia's future in peril.

After refusing to do so for months, Macedonia's President Gjorge Ivanov has capitulated to foreign demands and pressure from the Socialist Party and has given Socialist leader Zoran Zaev a mandate to form a coalition government.

Ivanov has made Zaev pledge not to undermine Macedonia's Constitution nor sovereignty. It also contained a pledge to reject the infamous Tirana Platform. It is a face saving gesture that few believe will be adhered to by Zaev's coalition.

Why the 30-year-old incident of USS Stark hit by Iraqi missiles remains relevant

On May 17, 1987 the American frigate USS Stark was caught by surprise by the Iraqi Exocet attack, exposing the vulnerability of Navy surface warships to external missile strikes. According to Sputnik contributor Andrei Kots, this problem still remains unresolved.

Exactly 30 years ago, on May 17, 1987, the USS Stark, the 23rd ship of the Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided-missile frigates, was incidentally struck by an Iraqi missile; the strike killed 37 crew members.

"This was the first and only case of the combat use of an anti-ship missile (ASM) against a US Navy ship. The precedent had once again proved that such weapons pose a serious threat even for the most powerful fleet," Sputnik contributor Andrei Kots wrote.

Russian TV asked special forces operators who were decorated for their conduct in a firefight in Aleppo, Syria if they could recount the story of how they won their medals. They insist it was all fairly routine and no big deal:

As al-Nusra counter-attacked and Syrian soldiers withdrew in confusion, 16 Russian special forces guys fought up to 300 Nusra fighters, destroyed one suicide car bomb, a tank and an armored personnel carrier. As night fell they used the dark to mine the approaches to their positions which was a big surprise for the Nusra fighters when they attacked for the last time the next morning.

President Donald Trump sounded a defiant note to his critics, urging US Coast Guard Academy graduates to ignore naysayers and keep fighting for what is right. No politician in history has been treated more unfairly, Trump said, vowing to carry on.

"Look at the way I've been treated lately, especially by the media," Trump told the graduating class of the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut on Wednesday. "No politician in history... has been treated worse or more unfairly."
