China threatens to bomb North Korea's nuclear facilities if it crosses Beijing's 'bottom line' in retracted article

Chinese army
With everyone putting down new and/or revised "red lines", be it on Syria or North Korea, it was now China's turn to reveal its "red" or rather "bottom line", and in a harshly worded editorial titled "The United States Must Not Choose a Wrong Direction to Break the DPRK Nuclear Deadlock on Wednesday" Beijing warned it would attack North Korea's facilities producing nuclear bombs, effectively engaging in an act of war, if North Korea crosses China's "bottom line."

The editorial in the military-focused Global Times tabloid, owned and operated by the Communist Party's People's Daily newspaper, said that North Korea's nuclear activities must not jeopardize northeastern China, and that if the North impacts China with its illicit nuclear tests through either "nuclear leakage or pollution", then China will respond with force.
"China has a bottom line that it will protect at all costs, that is, the security and stability of northeast China... If the bottom line is touched, China will employ all means available including the military means to strike back. By that time, it is not an issue of discussion whether China acquiesces in the US' blows, but the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will launch attacks to DPRK nuclear facilities on its own."

How western elites conspire to kill free speech: The Clear Channel Memorandum

After 9/11 anti-war songs, easily listening and rock and roll were in the firing line of the condescending, hawkish elite.

camera / surveillance art
There are many examples of the contempt the western elite harbour towards their own citizens. Some of the most poignant examples, however, are not expressed in government policy but in the subtle ways that the media toes an unofficial government line, doing something legislation could not so rapidly do, control, numb and confuse the hearts and minds of ordinary people.

I have recently written about how the self-appointed ethics police of social media are often emboldened to act as censors for the would be proconsuls of the web in the aftermath of a terrorist attack. But even before Twitter and Facebook existed, the corporate giants were taking it upon themselves to please big brother at the expense of free speech.

Tillerson to French FM: Why should US taxpayers care about Ukraine conflict?

Rex Tillerson
© Max Rossi / Reuters
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has expressed doubt that the Ukrainian conflict is a point of interest for US taxpayers, his French counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault has said, Reuters reports.

According to Ayrault, Tillerson openly questioned why American taxpayers should be concerned about the situation in Ukraine. The US official gave his opinion during the G7 foreign ministers' meeting in Lucca, Italy, on Tuesday.

The French FM told reporters that his answer to the US top diplomat was: "It is in the interests of the US taxpayers to have a Europe that is secure and is strong politically and economically ... You don't want a weak Europe, broken into bits and feeble."

Ayrault didn't specify if Tillerson, who flew to Russia right after the Italian meeting, responded to his comment.

Best of the Web: CIA docs: Plans to topple Assad family go back six presidents

Hafez Assad

Sifting through the CIA's database of 11 million+ declassified documents, WikiLeaks has uncovered a report from 1986 on "possible scenarios that could lead to the ouster of President Assad." Pointing to the potential for exploiting sectarian tensions, the report nonetheless ironically explains why the US's current regime change strategy is wrong.

In January, the US Central Intelligence Agency put over 11 million of its declassified files online. On Monday, WikiLeaks discovered that one of these documents includes a secret report involving scenarios for ousting Hafez Assad (Bashar Assad's father) going back all the way to the Reagan administration.

The document, created under the supervision of the Director of Global Issues by the appropriately named Foreign Subversion and Instability Center, and distributed to senior intelligence officials, as well as officials in the State Department, the Pentagon, Reagan Middle East policy advisor Dennis Ross, and William Eagleton, then-US ambassador in Syria. The memorandum casually lays out what the CIA envisions to be the "scenarios that could lead to the ouster of President Hafez al-Assad in Syria." The report makes no bones about its "purposely provocative" nature and tone.

Comment: Interesting bits of history divulge the length and breadth of long-range scheming, giving insight into how a game plan goes through definition and redefinition in order to achieve a predictable result. As citizens we are only privy to the surface action on any given day, not the entrenchment of ideas nor the scope of the manipulation culminating decades later. Within the 'scheme of things', changing plans, swapping scenarios...not so easily done.

Mad Dog Mattis: Sha'irat strike destroyed 20 percent of Syria's jets

US Defense Secretary James Mattis claims the Pentagon's recent assault on the Sha'irat air base in Homs, Syria led to the destruction of 20 percent of the Syrian Arab Army's aircraft.

Despite self-congratulations on the part of Washington for its "success" in the mission, Foreign Policy reported that jets took off from the Sha'irat airbase less than 24 hours after the missile attack. According to Mattis, the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces "lost the ability to refuel or rearm aircraft at Sha'irat airfield and at this point, use of the runway is of idle military interest."

One estimate provided by GlobalFirePower.com indicates that the Syrian armed forces maintain 461 total aircraft. Thus, on Mattis' account, the strike resulted in the elimination of about 92 aircraft.

The Pentagon estimated that "the strike resulted in the damage or destruction of fuel and ammunition sites, air defense capabilities, and 20 percent of Syria's operational aircraft."

The US Navy's launch of 59 tomahawk cruise missiles took place from two destroyers in the Mediterranean Sea. The missiles alone rang up a bill of about $83 million, Sputnik reported.

Mattis ended his statement with language that could escalate tensions and violence between regional players in Syria. "The Syrian government would be ill-advised ever again to use chemical weapons." The Syrian government has denied allegations that it conducted a chemical attack on its own people. Rather, Syrian officials say Syrian jets struck a rebel weapons depot where opposition forces had been producing deadly nerve gases.

Mattis says the strike "was a measured response."

Comment: Do we really think that with the "heads up" warning to Russia and thus Syria, they would leave over 92 flyable planes at that airport? Nonsense. They make this stuff up.
The strike on the Shayrat airfield in Syria's Homs Province destroyed a material storage depot, a training facility, a canteen, six MiG-23 aircraft in repair hangars and a radar station. The runway, taxiways and the Syrian aircraft on the parking apron remained undamaged, Russia's Defense Ministry spokesman said in a statement.

Another report stated: Syrian military source told RusVesna that the base was practically a scrap yard for old, decommissioned equipment. The six planes destroyed were there for repairs. The total damage? About 3-5 million USD worth of equipment. Cost of the strikes for the US? About $90 million.

World scientists to urge UN to ban nuclear weapons

© CSGlobe
With global conflicts on a steady slope upward, the increased military flexing from global superpowers, and the potential of modern nuclear weapons all considered, concerns regarding the possibility of a global nuclear fallout in the near future are not unrealistic. The chemical attacks carried out in Syria, the 59 tomahawk missiles the U.S. has fired at a Syrian airbase, Russia's angry response to the U.S. airstrike โ€” all events that have transpired in the last week alone.

But what exactly would happen in the event of a global nuclear war?

Theoretically, it begins with approximately 2600 American and Russian nuclear weapons being deployed at strategic points in Europe and North America in a matter of minutes. The resulting catastrophe causes the immediate deaths of tens โ€” if not hundreds of millions of civilians in high populated areas. After decimating hundreds of cities, around 150 million tons of thick smoke rises from the rubble and ascends above the clouds into the stratosphere. The smoke quickly spreads, blocking and absorbing sunlight from approximately 70% of the Northern Hemisphere and up to 35% of the Southern Hemisphere. This ushers in a new ice age, promoting subzero temperatures and making agriculture nearly impossible for years to come.

Furthermore, the ozone begins to further deteriorate, exposing the Earth's surface to heightened levels of damaging UV rays, putting further stress on already collapsing ecosystems across the globe. In a nutshell: a mass extinction.

However, thousands of scientists from across the globe are working to bring a new hope to the world. Over 2500 scientists from 70 countries have signed an open letter to the U.N. calling for a global ban on nuclear weapons. The open letter reads:

Comment: Removal and disposal of nuclear weapons would be a positive turn of events for all mankind. Not so simply done, however. Who is going to make it so and who is going to police it? Israel? As far as a nuclear war resulting in a mini ice age...that consequence has already begun as part of the solar cycle already affecting Earth. A nuclear winter, however, would likely increase the effects.

Navy sub-hunting patrol raises fear of foreign submarine off California coast

Anti-submarine aircraft have been loitering over the same area off the California coast for hours, which is fueling speculation that a Russian - or a North Korean - submarine was spotted in the area.

While the report of a foreign vessel is unconfirmed at this point, the military patrol is apparently not part of a routine exercise due to the number of aircraft hovering over the same area and the late hours of operation.

The patrol includes multiple low-flying aircraft including a Navy EP-3E Aries II, which is used for electronic surveillance, a Navy P-3C Orion, which is used for submarine spotting, and a Boeing P-8 Poseidon used for anti-submarine warfare.

Comment: Alert or regular drill...they probably look the same.

"Trump has just given jihadis a thousand reasons to stage fake flag operations," Peter Ford.

Former British Ambassador to Syria Peter Ford went on the BBC to explain why the chemical attack in the ISIS-Al Qaeda controlled town of Khan Sheikhoun was not committed by the Assad government.

Ford was the UK ambassador to Damascus from 2003-2006, so he actually has experience dealing with Assad and knowledge of Syria.

Propaganda Alert: Fake News AP claims Russia "knew in advance about Syria chemical attack"

More fake news propaganda via the AP.

More fake news from the AP. Easy to spot, meant to push the war in Syria agenda further.

The recipe for this AP fake news propaganda is simple to call out...

Comment: 'Preliminary allegations with no proof' - to most people that's just fancy talk for 'BS'. In further news, Sputnik reports that the US Intelligence Community hasn't reached a consensus on how, or if, they should 'catapult' this latest propaganda:
The US Intelligence Community has not achieved a consensus that Russia had foreknowledge of the April 4 chemical weapon attack in Syria that left more than 80 people dead, according to media reports.

The Intelligence Community disputed on Monday media reports that the Russian government knew in advance about the chemical attack in Syria's Idlib province, NBC News said citing a government official.

On Thursday night, the United States launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the military airfield in Ash Sha'irat in response to the chemical weapon attack.

A multi-level analysis of the US cruise missile attack on Syria and its consequences

US missile strikes on Syria
The latest US cruise missile attack on the Syrian airbase is an extremely important event in so many ways that it is important to examine it in some detail. I will try to do this today with the hope to be able to shed some light on a rather bizarre attack which will nevertheless have profound consequences. But first, let's begin by looking at what actually happened.

The pretext:

I don't think that anybody seriously believes that Assad or anybody else in the Syrian government really ordered a chemical weapons attack on anybody. To believe that it would require you to find the following sequence logical: first, Assad pretty much wins the war against Daesh which is in full retreat. Then, the US declares that overthrowing Assad is not a priority anymore (up to here this is all factual and true). Then, Assad decides to use weapons he does not have. He decides to bomb a location with no military value, but with lots of kids and cameras. Then, when the Russians demand a full investigation, the Americans strike as fast as they can before this idea gets any support. And now the Americans are probing a possible Russian role in this so-called attack. Frankly, if you believe any of that, you should immediately stop reading and go back to watching TV. For the rest of us, there are three options:
  1. a classical US-executed false flag
  2. a Syrian strike on a location which happened to be storing some kind of gas, possibly chlorine, but most definitely not sarin. This option requires you to believe in coincidences. I don't. Unless,
  3. the US fed bad intelligence to the Syrians and got them to bomb a location where the US knew that toxic gas was stored.
