Brennan and Clapper attack Trump, accuse him of being played by foreign leaders

A pair of former US intelligence chiefs blasted President Donald Trump Sunday after he attacked them a day earlier while discussing his recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said Sunday on CNN"s "State of the Union" that Trump's downplaying of the threat posed by Russia's meddling in last year's election was dangerous to US national security and allows countries like Russia and China to "play" the President.

Former CIA Director John Brennan said Trump is allowing Putin to get away with Russia's efforts to disrupt the presidential election.

Speaking alongside Brennan, Clapper said: "The threat posed by Russia, as John just said, is manifest and obvious. To try to paint it in any other way is, I think, astounding, and in fact, poses a peril to this country."

Clapper, a CNN analyst, was responding to Trump's mixed comments about alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Comment: Brennan and Clapper don't seem to realize that the only people listening to them are hysterical paranoiacs. No one with a functioning brain believes their paranoid ramblings anymore.

Carles Puigdemont, the deposed leader of Catalonia who fought hard for the region to break free from Spain, now says he is willing to accept a new relationship with Madrid which does not involve independence.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper Le Soir, Puigdemont said that "another solution which isn't independence is possible." He added that he is willing to "accept the reality of another relationship with Spain."

Puigdemont acknowledged that he remains pro-independence and worked to achieve that goal for Catalonia for years. However, he said "the arrival of [José María] Aznar to power stopped that process." Aznar, a People's Party (PP) politician, was the prime minister of Spain from 1996 to 2004.

RT complies with DC's ultimatum, files for registration as foreign agent

RT has filed for registration as a 'foreign agent' in the US, as November 13 is the deadline, Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan has announced. The broadcaster has been threatened with legal action should it refuse to comply.

"Between legal action and registration [as a foreign agent], we have chosen the latter," Simonyan said in a Twitter post on Monday. The channel thus complies with the demands put forward by the US Department of Justice.

Reacting further on the dubious victory by Washington, Simonyan said she "congratulates the US [on its] freedom of speech and all those who still believe in it."

In September, the Justice Department demanded that a company supplying services to RT America on US soil should register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). The 1938 legislation was adopted to counter Nazi Germany. Washington threatened to freeze the company's assets if it failed to comply.

President Bashar Assad's government has once again condemned the indiscriminate bombardment by the US-led coalition which continues to kill civilians and destroy the country's infrastructure, while at the same time, hampering Damascus' anti-terrorist efforts.

The Syrian government expresses "strong condemnation" of the ongoing attacks against civilians carried out as part of US-led Operation Inherent Resolve, the Permanent Mission of the Syrian Arab Republic to the UN said in its latest communication addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council.

Syria accused the "rogue coalition" of adding "new bloody massacres" to their records of "war crimes and crimes against humanity."

Putin reported to run in 2018 elections as independent from United Russia

putin kremlin
The Kremlin is developing the appropriate scenario for the nomination of the incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin, for a new term as Head of State. This is reported by RBC, with reference to sources close to the presidential administration.

The report stated the Russian president has decided on his participation in the 2018 elections, which is likely to be officially announced during the assembly of the ruling United Russia political party, on 22- 23 December. However, to keep us in suspense, January is also an option. "Putin's pre-election campaign is likely to be as short as possible", RBC's interlocutor said, his victory is "undeniable", so there is no need to rush into the campaign."

At the same time, it is noted that, most likely, Putin will go to the elections as a self-nominated person, since he has a higher rating in society than the party United Russia.

Delusions of grandeur: US journal severely overestimates "unsinkable" American aircraft carriers

sinking ship
Recently, the American journal The National Interest published an article with a telling title: "5 Reasons Russia and China Might Not Be Able to Sink a U.S. Aircraft Carrier". The author of the article discusses these reasons in detail. All of them are, by the way, pretty self-evident.

The first one turned out to be (do you believe this?) that "the American aircraft carrier is big and fast . . . " The second one - "it has many weapons . . . " The third reason - "it is well defended . . .". The fourth reason - "it acts prudently . . . " And, finally, the fifth - "the American military technologies are the best in the world . . .".

Such is a collection of simplistic propagandist clichés that the American propaganda machine is pounding into the head of the Western common man. It is important to understand that the National Interest is not some "yellow" paper; this in an analytical journal that is expected to offer responsible and professional publications.

Ouyahia made the remarks on Saturday at a time when much of the Middle East and North Africa is in turmoil, grappling with different crises, ranging from terrorism and insecurity to political uncertainty and foreign interference.

Algeria maintains that regional states should settle their differences through dialog and that foreign meddling is to their detriment.

Saad Hariri finally appears, gives awkward (scripted?) interview

hariri interview
When Saad Hariri appeared on Saudi state-run Al Arabiya television last week to deliver his "resignation" as the Lebanese Prime Minister, many felt that Hariri, who is also a Saudi citizen was being forced to resign by the Saudi regime.

Several obvious inconsistencies were present in the original "resignation" speech. First and most strangely, he read a speech that was written in a Gulfi dialect of Arabic and instead of using familiar Lebanese terminology, he used Saudi terminology which is largely foreign among Lebanese viewers.

Secondly, his resignation from foreign soil is not only incompatible with Lebanese legal procedure, but it is highly unusual in any context.

Finally, as Hariri owns his own television channel, Lebanon based Future TV, it was considered strange that his speech was exclusively broadcast on a Saudi state-run network.

Further evidence which emerged led Lebanese President Michel Aoun to join with other Lebanese parties including Hezbollah, the Amal movement and some members of Hariri's own Future Movement to say that Hariri had been kidnapped by Saudi authorities and is being held against his will.

Last night's interview from Saudi Arabian soil on Hariri's Future TV was designed to assuage the fears that Hariri is a political hostage, but the interview left many more questions than answers.

Comment: Hariri also said Lebanon may face sanctions from the Gulf Arab nations due to Hezbollah's activity. Some more incoherent statements from his interview on Saudi TV:
He said his resignation was designed to "cause a positive shock" in the country, warning against Iranian interference which, he said, is ruining relations with other Arab countries.

"We know there are American sanctions [targeting Hizballah], but [do] we add to them also Arab sanctions?" he asked in the interview.

"What is our interest [in that] as Lebanese, because we see today interventions in Yemen and Bahrain by Iran and Hizballah."

"Where do we export our goods? Is it not to the Arab states? Where do our sons work...?" he said.

"We must work to preserve this interest, and this interest was threatened, so for this reason I did what I did," he added.
"I love Lebanon as much as I hate Bashar Al Assad. I may even retract my resignation." - Lebanese PM peeps for the first time since his "resignation"

He also said that he is not afraid of losing his life (despite previously saying the opposite).
...
"King Salman considers me a son of his and I respect him deeply and he also respects me. I agree with him on most issues, though I also disagree on some", Hariri explained.
