Self punishment? EU extends sanctions against Russia without any discussion

The leaders of the EU countries at the summit in Brussels for the first time decided to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation without discussion and arguments. President of the European Council Donald Tusk said after the meeting.

"It is interesting but this time the leaders made a decision on sanctions without any discussion or arguments," he said.

A source in the European Union told TASS, that on Thursday night that "the leaders heard a report by the Normandy format participants by Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President of France Emmanuel Macron on the implementation of the Minsk agreements." According to the source, the summit "noted the lack of progress on the Minsk agreements, which means green light for the extension of sanctions."


Comment: So keep doing the same with no discussion. Are they hoping for a different outcome or want more self punishment?

Witnessing the lack of creativity in the West's scaremongering - the same idea being used over and over again by the western pathocrats and their puppet states - one would be forgiven for thinking it's satire. Browsing through the day's news, I came across a story that presented the shameful caricature of reality that we've seen time and time again.

Some people dutifully chew each mouthful of this kind of supersized junk, spoon-fed them by a willingly complicit media, and wash it down with Kool-Aid. But SOTT is the 'world for people who think', and I can't imagine there are many SOTT readers hungering for the latest stomach-churning offering from Nikki 'The Hick' Haley who, on December 14th, expanded on the US's increasingly hysterical pivot towards Iran.

Standing in front of an alleged spent Iranian missile shell, Haley proceeded to use this 'visual aid' to add weight to her claims that Iranian missile shells of one sort or another have been turning up in war zones across the Middle East.

On November 14th, CNN broadcast a landmark investigative report titled "People for sale: Where lives are auctioned for $400" and showed many marketplaces in Libya where Blacks are sold as slaves in the same way it used to be done in the United States and especially in the southern US states. This commerce wasn't explained but merely shown.

However, CNN here exhibited, by publishing this 7-minute video news report, a courage and an honesty that's extraordinary in US journalism, because it brought home to the American people one of the many vile but too often unreported results of US foreign policy, and of the US military that is the top-respected of all US institutions as shown in Gallup's ongoing polls on Americans' respect and disrespect for over a dozen US institutions and federal government agencies.

NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg and actress Angelina Jolie have joined forces to project the US-led war alliance as a progressive role model for gender politics and a "leading protector" of women's rights.

Their op-ed in the Guardian last weekend, "Why NATO must defend women's rights", is presented as a joint mission to secure the "fundamental promise in the UN Charter of equal rights and dignity for women."

One rubs one's eyes in disbelief. Written in defence of an organisation that is the primary source of warmongering, by its leader and chief propagandist and an Ayn Rand devotee and self-styled "humanitarian", the op-ed could be mistaken for satire.

When military intelligence officer Luis Elizondo stepped down from his post heading the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program (AATIP) - the program created to investigate unidentified flying objects - in October, he cited lack of government support. "We tried to work within the system. We were trying to take the voodoo out of voodoo science," Elizondo told Politico in a recent interview.

Until his departure the program, though unclassified, had nevertheless been a Pentagon secret in that its existence had never been publicly acknowledged. That is, until Saturday (Dec. 16), when Politico and the New York Times published reports tracing AATIP's history from 2007 to today. The Pentagon confirmed AATIP's existence, though it's yet to comment on whether the program is still running despite lacking government funding.

Comment: Interesting that Tom DeLong is mentioned in this piece. Communication between DeLong and Tony Podesta was revealed as part of the Podesta leaked emails last year. From Rolling Stone:
Podesta, who also served as senior advisor to President Barack Obama, expressed disappointment in February 2015 that his time in the White House didn't result in the revelation of the existence of UFOs. "Finally, my biggest failure of 2014: Once again not securing the #disclosure of the UFO files. #thetruthisstilloutthere," Podesta tweeted.

The police have built a "rock solid" case against three hardened Maltese criminals - brothers George Degiorgio (Ic-Ciniz) and Alfred Degiorgio (Il-Fulu) and Vincent Muscat (Il-Kohhu)- who will be charged with the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia tonight.

Sources close to the investigation told Lovin Malta that police are in possession of triangulation data which shows one of the three men was outside Caruana Galizia's house in Bidnija on the afternoon of 16th October. As the journalist approached the car, the man phoned up his accomplice, who then rang up a phone which triggered to a bomb that had been placed inside the journalist's car.

The men used brand new mobile phones to carry out the assassination. Police have reportedly found the phones used to carry out the murder at the bottom of the sea by the Marsa coast, close to where the suspects themselves were arrested last night.

According to current and former US officials, President Donald Trump's daily briefing is designed to avoid making him angry, and often avoids the latest intelligence on Russia's interference in the 2016 US election, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

"If you talk about Russia, meddling, interference - that takes the PDB off the rails," one former senior U.S. intelligence official said, using an acronym for the president's daily briefing.

Some US officials did not confirm to The Post whether Trump was receiving the latest intelligence on Russia, but several current and former members of the administration's staff said Trump's briefing sometimes buries the information about Russian meddling to make it easier for the president to handle, but at times is not even presented to him verbally.

Although a spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Brian Hale, told The Post that the briefing is "written by senior-level, career intelligence officers," and that it "always provides objective intelligence - including on Russia - to the president and his staff," officials said that this intelligence is sometimes only included in the written briefing and is not communicated to the president orally.

Comment: The main force of the article is that briefers deliberately don't tell Trump about the intel community's "Russian interference" intelligence. But according to the same article, all that information is included in the briefing. Sometimes it's stated orally, sometimes just in writing. And if what these "insiders" say is true, this is what it basically amounts to: Trump gets mad when intel community tries to BS him. Of course the IC will stand by whatever is in their reports - they have to, and their credibility is on the line. But that does not in any way imply that the intel in their briefings is actually true. It doesn't even imply that they believe it. WMDs in Iraq, anyone? Gaddafi is killing his own people?

YouTube's decision to hire 10,000 staff to monitor violent extremism on its video sharing platform is not the way to go, Dr. Gilbert Ramsay, author and lecturer in International Relations at the Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV), told Sputnik.

Digital and social media platforms have been accused of facilitating and promoting radicalization propaganda after it emerged extremist videos on YouTube could be viewed alongside paid for banner adverts.

The company was forced to publicly apologize after a number of high profile companies withdrew their advertising contracts with the Internet giant.


Comment: In all likelihood YouTube's definition of extreme content will become broader and broader.

The media's reign of error!

Covering the Trump presidency has not always been the media's finest hour, but even grading on that curve, the month of December has brought astonishing screwups. Professor and venerable political observer Walter Russell Mead tweeted on December 8, "I remember Watergate pretty well, and I don't remember anything like this level of journalistic carelessness back then. The constant stream of 'bombshells' that turn into duds is doing much more to damage the media than anything Trump could manage."

On December 1, ABC News correspondent Brian Ross went on air and made a remarkable claim. For months, the media have been furiously trying to prove collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Ross reported that former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who had just pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, was prepared to testify that President Trump had instructed him to contact Russian officials before the 2016 election, while Trump was still a candidate. If true, it would have been a game-changer. But Ross's claim was inaccurate. Flynn's documented attempts to contact the Russians came after Trump was president-elect, allegedly trying to lay diplomatic groundwork for the new administration. Ross was suspended by ABC for four weeks without pay for the error.

Comment: It is even worse when honest media outlets do a decent job of fair reporting and are slammed by mainstream for not agreeing with and supporting their false stories based on corrupted facts. It is up to the public to discern the difference. For what it's worth, Mr. Trump has done service to highlight the difference.
