US Senate to debate withdrawing some support from Saudi Arabia's war on Yemen

white house
The US Senate voted on Wednesday to start debate on a resolution that would end US involvement in the war in Yemen.

The Senate voted 60 to 39 in favour of starting debate over the Yemen War Powers Resolution.

"This joint resolution directs the President to remove US armed forces from hostilities in or affecting Yemen, except those engaged in operations directed at al Qaeda, within 30 days unless: (1) the President requests and Congress authorizes a later date, or (2) a declaration of war or specific authorization for the use of the Armed Forces has been enacted, according to a summary on the Senate website," the text of the legislation says.

Comment: The support the US and UK are providing to the Saudi's in their genocide in Yemen is many, varied and much of illegal, and it seems with the ever inclusive 'al Qaeda' clause, very little could change at all: Also check out SOTT radio's: NewsReal: West Discovers Saudi Arabia Has Human Rights Issues & The Real Reason People Hate Trump

Red Pill

Strasbourg shooter was on terror watch list and yet allowed to roam free, why?

The inaction of the French security services coupled with the fact that French police had squarely focused on the popular Yellow Vests protests allowed the Strasbourg attacker to commit his rampage and flee, analysts believe.

The suspect, identified as Cherif Chekatt, 29, was repeatedly convicted not only in France but also in Germany and Switzerland over an array of offenses - and was also placed on a terror watch list - but still managed to somehow carry out his assault near one of Europe's oldest and biggest Christmas markets and then escape unhindered.

While the fact that such a man was allowed to roam free without any proper oversight is quite astonishing in and of itself, it also apparently reveals some serious flaws within France's security system, says geopolitical analyst and terrorism expert Alexandre Del Valle.

"He should have been detained," Del Valle told RT. "This is just unbelievable that ... this dangerous repeat offender was not under the strict control," he added.

Comment: It's significant that a witness to the event commenting online, corroborating the above report, noted the police weren't helpful and the people just fled on hearing gunfire, as well as the fact that he believed there were two shooters that day, see: What a Coincidence. Gunman shoots up Strasbourg Christmas, city bans public demos, France on 'highest threat level' (UPDATES)

For an idea of what was really going on behind the scenes, because clearly the official narrative doesn't make any sense, it's best to compare the disturbing similarities of this attack with the many others Europe has suffered in recent years, and, moreover, to discern who really benefits from the event: Also check out SOTT radio's:

French lessons in democracy for all the world to learn

French people are standing up for their rights and speaking out for many others around the world who are sick at the injustice of capitalism. None more so than people of Western states who have had to endure decades of economic austerity while a tiny elite become ever more obscenely wealthy.

In addition to the irrational malign distribution of wealth that capitalism bestows, Western states - that is, the oligarch-serving politicians - spend and waste inordinate financial resources on militarism and waging criminal wars.

For the fourth weekend in a row, the French public have taken to the streets of Paris and other major cities to demand economic justice. They also want President Emmanuel Macron to resign. Macron has so far kept his usual aloof silence on the protests, leaving it up to his prime minister Edouard Philippe to placate the angry nation.

Comment: Cunningham is correct. What we are seeing now occurring in France is something of a test case for how many other Western nations respond to the economic and social subjugation by their criminally-motivated governments - and how those governments attempt to "address" it.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro: 'Bolton is preparing plan for my assassination, with help from Bogota'

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has accused US National Security Advisor John Bolton of preparing a plot to murder him, and also has called out Colombian leader Ivan Duque as Bolton's accomplice.

"John Bolton is leading the plan to unleash violence and conduct a coup to introduce a transitional government" in Venezuela, Maduro said at press-conference, which was broadcast live on his Facebook page. "Bolton is preparing a plan for my assassination."

Trump's national security adviser has organized the training of mercenaries and paramilitary units "in various places" to be used against Venezuela, he said.

Maduro claimed that more than 730 armed thugs are ready to launch provocations and to attack military bases in Venezuela.

According to the Venezuelan leader, Bolton's plot is being carried out with the heavy involvement of Colombia, with its president Ivan Duque being "his accomplice." Maduro then slammed Duque as Washington's puppet, who "can't even go to the toilet without permission from the US ambassador in Bogota."

Comment: Maduro is probably not far off the mark with his statements considering that his predecessor, Hugo Chavez was likely assassinated by elements within the US deep state and ABC agencies.

Could the arrest of Meng Wanzhou have anything to do with Huawei challenging Western cellphone monopolies?

cellphone
The arrest of Chinese telecommunications CFO Meng Wanzhou has sent shockwaves through the global markets. The context of the smartphone industry and the challenges facing big monopolies from Russia and China is vital background information for anyone who wants to understand these recent, dramatic events.

One of the favorite talking points of defenders of free markets is "capitalism made your iphone." According to the meme, those who believe in socialism or Marxism are presented as total hypocrites if they own smartphone as only the profit system's rewarding of entrepreneurship could ever produce such a technological creation.

However, a little investigation reveals that the entire premise of the meme is false. The first cellphone was created by Leonid Ivanovich Kupriyanovich, a Moscow-based engineer in 1955 who conducted his research in state-run facilities. Furthermore, the screens of most smartphones are illuminated by Light Emitting Diodes (LED), the first of which was invented in 1927 by Oleg Vladimirovich Losev. Losev was also a Russian who conducted his research in state sponsored facilities.

The computer revolution itself can largely be attributed to the work of Alan Turing and his decoding machine created during the Second World War. This research was done in the context of heavy military control over industry, when Britain was aligned with the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany, hardly a free market situation.

Finian Cunningham: Washington abusing legal process to conceal economic banditry

The blatant arrest of a Chinese telecoms executive in Canada on behalf of the US is shrouded in obscure legalistic claims. But the bottom line is clear; the US is abusing the legal process to pursue lawless economic interests.

This hegemonic conduct by the US is undermining international law and leading to chaos. The recklessness of American unilateral diktat is unsustainable and is risking inevitable war with someone, sometime, somewhere.

China's anger over the latest legal spat resonates with similar grievances against the US felt by Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and even American allies in Europe, due to Washington's high-handed arbitrariness.

The US is behaving like a bandit state, imposing its demands as it alone sees fit for its presumed advantage - under the cover of legalistic probity.

The detention of Meng Wanzhou on December 1 while boarding a commercial flight out of Vancouver was carried by Canadian federal police on behalf of US authorities. It was not even clear on what legal grounds Meng was hauled away in handcuffs for. A court hearing for bail this week in Vancouver confirmed that the charges relate to US accusations that the chief financial officer of Chinese telecom giant Huawei allegedly violated American sanctions on Iran.

Nikki Haley's swansong at the UN was an embarrassment

Nikki Haley
© Minasse Wondimu Hailu/Anadolu AgencyUS Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley
The 6 December was the first anniversary of US President Donald Trump's announcement that he recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and that he would move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city. The announcement was cheered by Israel and its supporters for whom international laws and conventions are at best meaningless and at worst an irritant. Trump suggested that this move would help bring peace to the Holy Land. How wrong he was. Anyone but a diehard Zionist would have told him that he was deluded to think this, but nobody in his administration would have done so, because those tasked with developing a peace deal fall into this category.

One of these cheerleaders for Apartheid Israel is Nimrata Randhawa, better known to the world as Nikki Haley, the US Representative to the United Nations. In the UN Security Council, she can wield the US veto to protect Israel but she is unable to do that in the General Assembly, where no state has a veto. Her swansong in the chamber was an embarrassment for her and her country.

Haley left what was her final General Assembly with her pro-Israel tail firmly between her legs. Her resolution to condemn Hamas was voted down, while a resolution reiterating the call for a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which she opposed, passed overwhelmingly. It is particularly galling that Haley wanted to use the UN to condemn Palestinians while defending Israel and its breaches of hundreds of resolutions passed by the very organisation she wanted to use to sanction the people of Palestine who are in breach of none.

Christopher Steele disclosed made up nonsense from his trash dossier to longtime Clinton crony, court documents reveal

Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous anti-Trump dossier, disclosed information from his Trump-Russia investigation to a longtime Clinton crony because of his position on a State Department advisory board, according to court documents filed on Tuesday.

According to the court filing, Steele told a court in the United Kingdom on Aug. 1 that he provided Strobe Talbott, the Clinton insider, with anti-Trump research because of his position on the Foreign Affairs Policy Board, an independent advisory board set up in 2011 by then-Sec. of State Hillary Clinton.

Clinton appointed Talbott chairman of the advisory board, and he served in that role through John Kerry's tenure.

Flashback Clinton IT aide pleads Fifth, skips hearing

Hillary Clinton and Bryan Pagliano

Three IT specialists involved with Hillary Clinton's private email server on Tuesday refused to testify before the House Oversight Committee on deletions of some of Clinton's emails.

One of these three, Bryan Pagliano - the former State Department employee who set up the server - defied a subpoena and failed to appear at the hearing altogether.

The other two, engineers at the outside firm that managed Clinton's server, appeared under subpoena but invoked their Fifth Amendment rights in response to every question.

Outraged Republicans quickly threatened reprisal against Pagliano, who has long been a flashpoint in various investigations into the server.
