The moment a woman and child escaped with their lives as hurricane-force winds blow the roof off a building just behind them has been caught on camera.

Russia's Krasnodar Krai region has long been known for its benign climate. There's a natural spa that attracts tourist all year round.

But it can also get pretty windy.

Windy enough, in fact, to blow the roof right off the city registrar's office in the town of Labinsk.

A woman and a small child passing by had a worryingly narrow escape when the entire roof came crashing down, almost in one complete piece.

No-one has been reported harmed in the shocking incident.

Boiled egg anyone? These giant hailstones hit Chenzhou City on March 17 causing serious damage to the area
Residents of Chenzhou city in southern China's Hunan Province were in for a shock on March 20 when egg-sized hailstones hit the area out of the blue.

Amateur pictures taken during the 15-minute shower showed streets covered with the enormous pieces of ice and slush, resembling thousands of marbles rolling across the ground, China News Service reports.

One of the southernmost provinces in China, Hunan has a subtropical climate, meaning the summer will likely be more a case of sunny-side up than frozen egg hailstones.

Elsewhere in the province, the tumultuous conditions were on display as drivers in Anhua county were forced to stop on a highway after heavy rain caused a large landslide.

A severe thunderstorm hit the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area on Thursday, March 18, 2016. The storm first hit about 04:00 (local time) and then again just before 09:00, dropping surprisingly large hailstones that busted in windshields, damaged houses, killed several animals at the Fort Worth Zoo and caused traffic chaos. The hailstones varied in size from blueberries to tennis balls.

According to media reports, a local ambulance provider was severely hampered by hail damage. They were out servicing the many accidents on the roads when they became victims of the storm. Matt Zavadsky of MedStar, said 50 vehicles suffered extensive damage. 11 ambulances were brought out of service because of busted windshields.

National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Stalley said they warned that there could be a few severe storms but "they were more widespread than we anticipated."

Storms battering Europe's Atlantic coastline were the most energetic in 70 years, causing extensive erosion along coasts

The repeated storms which battered Europe's Atlantic coastline during the winter of 2013/14 were the most energetic in almost seven decades, new research has shown.

And they were part of a growing trend in stormy conditions which scientists say has the potential to dramatically change the equilibrium state of beaches along the western side of the continent, leading to permanent changes in beach gradient, coastal alignment and nearshore bar position.

In a study accepted for publication in Geophysical Research Letters, a journal of the American Geophysical Union, researchers compared modelled and measured data from sites across Scotland, Ireland, England, France, Portugal, Spain and Morocco, and showed the extreme weather conditions were the most energetic since at least 1948.

It showed that along exposed open-coast sites in the UK and France, there had been extensive beach and dune erosion due to offshore sediment transport with sediment losses of up to 200 m3 for every 1m strip of beach. At some of the other sites, the balance between the different alongshore sediment transport contributions was disrupted, causing changes in the coastal alignment, referred to as beach rotation.
