Further floods in West Java and Jakarta, Indonesia - 8 inches of rainfall in 24 hours

Further flooding has struck in Indonesia, this time in West Java Province along with parts of the capital, Jakarta. Officials report 2 people have died and 20 have been injured. The flooding follows a series of flood events that has affected several provinces of the country during September.

In West Java, heavy rainfall from 20 September caused the Cipeuncit River to break its banks flooding areas of Cicurug District in Sukabumi Regency on 21 September. Flooding was also reported in Parung Kuda and Cidahu Districts in the Regency.

Initial assessments suggested at least one house and one vehicle were swept away by the flash floods. Over 300 houses and 10 bridges were damaged. Disaster officials report that 20 people were injured and 210 families displaced. Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) later confirmed that 2 people had died in the floods.

Further flooding has struck in parts of Cambodia after heavy rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Noul. Disaster authorities report 11 people have died.

Previously flooding had affected Preah Sihanouk province, where 2,000 people were affected and 1 fatality was reported.

On 21 September, Cambodia's National Committee for Disaster Management reported that the impact of the typhoon Noul over the past few days has caused devastating flooding across the provinces of Pursat, Oddar Meanchey, Koh Kong and Pailin, as well as Preah Sihanouk.

At least 7 people have died after Tropical Storm Noul made its way across the countries of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand in South East Asia.

Noul made landfall near the city of Da Nang in Vietnam on 18 September 2020. Disaster authorities in Vietnam reported storm-related fatalities in the provinces of Thua Thien Hue (04), Ha Tinh and Quang Tri. A further 112 people were injured.

Ten houses were completely destroyed in Thua Thien Hue and 3 in Quang Tri. Thousands of other houses suffered damage, mostly as a result of strong winds. Around 50,000 people were evacuated from affected areas.

The storm then headed inland, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall to parts of Laos, where flooding was reported in Xekong and Champassak provinces.

Lightning last Saturday evening killed 15 cows at Ikogosi in Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The Asaoye of Ikogosi-Ekiti, Chief Ayo Ademilua, described the incident as a natural occurrence, which he said was strange in the town.

Narrating the incident to reporters via phone on Sunday, Ademilua said the incident occurred at the Ikogosi Warm Spring site along Ipole-Ekiti road.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ikogosi Warm Spring is a notable tourism and recreational centre where warm and cold streams meet in Ekiti.

Residents of Broken Hill have celebrated as a thunderstorm dumped more than a month's worth of rainfall in 15 minutes, drenching the far west NSW town.

Happy locals desperate for rain shared photos of flooded streets on social media after the outback town copped 33mm of rainfall on Saturday, more than it received over six months last year.

"It's a good day for a flood in Argent Street. Sandbagging the shop and still smiling," clothing store Sitting Bull shared on Instagram.

One person was reported missing on Saturday and dozens faced evacuation from their homes after torrential rain hit southern France, authorities said.

The Gard region, where firefighters reported the missing person, was on red alert after as much as 350 millimetres (13.5 inches) of rain fell in parts of the Cevennes mountain range on the edge of the Massif Central.

A similar amount cut off 10 departmental roads in the Gard, among them one in the Pont-d'Herault municipality, with prefectural sources indicating one village was isolated as a result.

Helicopters carried out two rescue missions and some 650 rescue personnel were mobilised for three further operations as some 200 people were led to safety in two villages.

Burning rubber: Lightning strike kills couple on bike in Maharashtra, India

In a freak incident, a couple was electrocuted after being struck by lightning while returning to Paradgaon village on a bike from Bramhapuri on Friday evening.

The victims have been identified as Pintu Raut, 30, and his wife Gunjan, 26. The duo had gone to Bramhapuri for some work and was returning when lightning struck them near Bhagwati Rice Mill in Udapur village. The duo was thrown from the bike after the impact and died on the spot.

Pintu's body was found near the bike by the roadside, while his Gunjan's body was lying on road.

The police have registered a case and are investigating.

Comment: Also in India 2 woman were killed by a bolt in Tamil Nadu on Sept.17 while a total of 5 individuals were also fatally hit by strikes on the same day in Jharkhand.

Storm Ianos made landfall in Greece on Friday and entirely washed away a beach on the island of Kefalonia. Videos posted by locals on social media showed massive destruction.

The Mediterranean hurricane ('Medicane') hit Kefalonia on Friday. Footage posted to Twitter shows the once-beautiful Jerusalem Beach being entirely washed away by the catastrophic flooding.

A family holiday ended in tragedy yesterday after a lightning strike killed six people and injured another four in Battambang.

According to a report by the provincial authorities, over ten family members had gathered to have dinner at around 6pm at a house in the province when lighting struck.

The victims who lost their lives have been identified as Yum Nhik, 56, Dam Sokna, 56, Yum Chariya, 25, Yum Ravuth, 26, Orn Rin 27, with the last person only identified as Thy, age unknown.

An astonishing satellite photo shows five tropical cyclones swirling in the Atlantic basin at once.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) captured the image on Monday afternoon. It shows Tropical Depression Rene, Tropical Storms Teddy and Vicky, and Hurricanes Sally and Paulette.

"This ties the record for the most number of tropical cyclones in that basin at one time," the National Weather Service tweeted on Monday.

The Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico have only held this many storms once before, in September 1971.
