Thousands snowed in after winter storm dumps as much as 6 FEET of snow in Lake Arrowhead, California

MMMMMMM
Thousands of residents in the Lake Arrowhead area were snowed in this weekend due to the unprecedented storm that battered Southern California's mountain communities.

Many residents were trapped by the deep layer of snow and ice for upwards of 24 hours.

Some called it the biggest storm in decades with communities getting up to 6 feet of snow.

Snow plows were slowly working to clear the main roads Sunday morning while working their way to residential areas, forcing some residents to get creative and wade through the deep layer of snow with skies.

"This is the most magnificent storm in the 31 years that I've been here," said Ginny Dunn. "I have never seen North Bay this snowy and untraveled."

Wyoming wind creates unbelievable snow drifts in Casper

mmmmm
You've heard it a thousand times: "The weather wouldn't be so bad here if it wasn't for the wind."

Well, it is for the wind. Wyoming, for those unaware, is a very windy place to live. Locals have more or less just learned to live with it but, for those who don't live here, actual proof of the Wyoming wind can be pretty astonishing.

That's why one Casper woman decided to get some video evidence of just how crazy the wind in Wyoming really is.

More heavy rain has caused further flooding in at least 4 departments of Paraguay over the last few days. The National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) said they have assisted thousands of families affected by floods in the Amambay and Concepción Departments. Meanwhile, the municipality of Puerto Casado in Alto Paraguay Department declared a state of emergency. Recent storms have caused severe damage to buildings and homes in San Pedro Department.

Flooding has affected areas of the eastern department of Amambay since mid-February after the Aquidabán river broke its banks .

Further downstream, the swollen Aquidabán flooded areas of Paso Barreto District in the department of Concepción on 20 February. Local media reported roads were cut and bridges damaged, leaving communities isolated. SEN said teams distributed food, mattresses and tents to affected residency.

Lightning kills 2 farmers in Zimbabwe

MMMM
Two young farmers under Chief Kazangarare in Hurungwe North district, Mashonaland West province, were killed by a bolt of lightning last week, police have confirmed.

The now-deceased, Alec Mbomboya (24) and Owen Kawara (20), were killed while grading their tobacco harvest in a grass-thatched hut.

Mashonaland West police provincial spokesperson Inspector Margaret Chitove said: "The deceased are from Kahumwe village under Chief Kazangarare in Hurungwe North. They were stuck by lightning as they were grading their tobacco. We are appealing to people not to use electrical gadgets when it is raining to avoid lightning strikes."

According to villagers, the deceased were cousins who lived near the Chiva area in Hurungwe North.

"The two were promising young tobacco farmers who had done well for the past two seasons. Their crop was of good quality. It is a sad loss for them to pass on in such a tragic manner," said Norman Chisina, a fellow villager.

Heavy snowfall in Crestline, California
Over the past few days mountain areas have experienced high snowfall totals and there's more on the way.

A winter storm with an atmospheric river that made its way over the Pacific brought multiple days of unexpected snowfall to some parts of Southern California.

Some areas have already received over 30 inches of snow and there is more coming in the forecast.

The snow came as the National Weather Service issued a rare blizzard warning for the San Bernardino mountains as well as the LA County and Ventura County mountains.

Heavy snow hits parts of southern California

Heavy Snowfall
© Phys OrgSnow has snarled mountain roads around southern California, as a brutal, and unusual, winter storm grips the area.
Heavy snow fell in southern California on Friday, as the first blizzard in a generation pounded the hills around Los Angeles, with heavy rains threatening flooding in other places.

Breathless television weather presenters more used to delivering a same-every-day forecast of warm sunshine found themselves knee-deep in the white stuff as the region grappled with its worst winter storm for decades.

Major roads were closed as ice and snow made them impassable, including sections of Interstate 5, the main north-south highway that connects Mexico, California, the Pacific Northwest and Canada.

Authorities said there was no estimate when it would be reopened.

"Dangerous and potentially life-threatening snow related impacts are likely for mountain, desert, and foothill roadways in southern California," the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

"Multiple rounds of heavy snowfall coupled with strong winds will lead to blizzard conditions over some of the higher terrain and mountain passes.

"Areas very close to the Pacific Coast and also into the interior valleys that are not accustomed to seeing snow, may see some accumulating snowfall."

'Explosion of debris': Tornado hits Waihi Beach, New Zealand causing damage and power cuts

mmmmm
A tornado has been spotted passing through Waihī Beach.
A Waihi Beach resident said a tornado that spiralled into the beach town damaging homes and cutting power to about 2000 properties spat all kinds of debris into the sky.

Mark Wright says he watched two water spouts merge and then head onto land to form a twister just before 8am today.

"I could just see debris and there was just all sorts going on in the sky, and there was just almost like an explosion of debris up in the air. There was just corrugated iron and objects and birds," he told RNZ.

Fellow resident Rae also watched it come ashore close to the Island View Esplanade Reserve.

Best of the Web: Storm dumps 4 FEET of snow in parts of Wyoming - Cheyenne sets record low of -19

MMMMMM
The latest Arctic front to blast Wyoming put to rest any thoughts of an early spring as multiple feet of snow fell in at least three counties and sub-zero temperatures broke at least one record in the state on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Carbon County was the gold medal winner for snowfall on Wednesday as 48 inches of snow was recorded at Battle Lake while campgrounds along Jack Creek and Sugar Loaf each received 42 inches.

Locations in Yellowstone National Park and Teton and Lincoln counties all received snow in excess of two feet.

The most snow in Cheyenne was in the northern areas with only 5 inches, but a 129-year record was broken when the temperature hit 19 degrees below zero early Thursday. The old record was set in 1894 at minus 13.
