Snowbasin resort in Utah breaks historic snowfall record with 600 inches

mmmmm
Snowbasin, UT, has seen a record snowfall of 600 inches this season, beating its previous record by a mind-blowing 125 inches. The 22/23 season has seen endless powder days, but the weather is slowly shifting, and temperatures are warming up, and spring skiing is officially here.

Snowbasin announced two weeks ago that the resort will stay open until April 23, 2023. Here is an update on what to expect for the next two weeks of spring skiing at Snowbasin.
Although it is hard to believe, spring is here, and this historic season is coming to an end. We've enjoyed endless powder days, record snowfall, and all-time conditions. After experiencing our longest ski season in history and pushing things out as far as we can, we have to start scaling back our operations. We have already begun saying goodbye to some of our incredible team members that are off to their next season's adventures, and with these hard farewells comes the need to prioritize our offerings for the remainder of the season. We hope you enjoy the final weeks as we bring this incredible season to a close. Thank you for being a part of history with us this year at Snowbasin. We are looking forward to starting the construction of DeMoisy Express upon closing, and welcoming you back next winter with even more offerings for you to enjoy!

Davy Ratchford, Vice President and General Manager of Snowbasin Resort

Authorities say around 70 houses were inspected and while there was physical damage, no injuries have been reported.

Lincoln County in Tennessee hit by gravity wave, a rare weather event that ripped off a roof

St. Louis meteorologists' best guess at what caused the damage Tuesday evening is a rare wind event.

Walt Humburg, along with his wife and his dogs, woke up Wednesday morning as the only people in Lincoln County with extensive damage to their home.

"The winds were just howling really bad," Humburg told 5 On Your Side late Tuesday night, "Then about 10, 15 minutes later it got real loud, my ears popped and the roof folded in on itself."

It was windy, but not storming and not raining. Remember the ear-popping part? We will get back to that.

A large tornado tore through southeastern Missouri before dawn on Wednesday, killing at least five people and causing widespread destruction as a broad swath of the Midwest and South kept a wary eye out for further storms that could spawn additional twisters and hail.

The tornado touched down around 3:30 a.m. and moved through a rural area of Bollinger County, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of St. Louis, said Sgt. Clark Parrott of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Trees were uprooted and homes turned into piles of splinters. One building was flipped on its side. Drone footage showed emergency crews peering into the wreckage with flashlights.

More than 20 agencies were part of the search for survivors and victims, with the damage so bad that they sometimes were forced to use chainsaws to cut back trees and brush to reach homes, Parrott said.
