Deadly flash floods after days of heavy rain in Oman

Emergency authorities in Oman report that at least one person has died and many have been rescued after flash floods in several governorates of the country.

The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority warned that wadis in several governorates were overflowing after days of rain. Over 90 mm of rain fell in 48 hours between 05 to 07 July 2022 in Wilayat of Rustaq in Al Batinah South Governorate.

One person died in a flooded wadi in Ad Dhakiliyah governorate, where at least 4 others were rescued. A road collapsed due to overflowing wadis in the Wilayat of Rustaq, Al Batinah South Governorate. Two people were caught in the incident. Police used a helicopter to transport them to a hospital.

Spain has been hit by a number of storms with rivers of hail, strong winds and torrential rain tearing through cities and farmlands destroying property and crops.

The storms come as parts of Spain, Italy and other areas in Europe suffer drought conditions destroying crops and emptying dams.

Parts of Accra, Ghana inundated with flood waters again

Some parts of Accra were again hit by floods after a downpour that lasted about two hours yesterday[July 5, 2022] morning.

The rains, which affected mostly the eastern and the northern parts of the capital, left many communities flooded and also caused heavy vehicular traffic on some major roads.

As usual, flood-prone areas such as Kaneshie, Odorkor and the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange were not spared by the flood waters.

Torrential rain in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India, has caused landslides and flash floods in several districts. The Chief Minister confirmed a number of fatalities. Police fear more people are still missing.

Local media said a "cloudburst" dumped torrential rain in Choj village of Manikarn valley of Kullu district. Houses and a bridge across the Parbati River were severely damaged or destroyed. Police said as many as 4 people were feared missing. The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh later confirmed fatalities.

Landslides and flooding struck in other areas of the district, blocking roads and damaging buildings. Around 30 employees at the Malana hydropower project were trapped inside a building and were later rescued.

Disaster officials in Ecuador reported heavy rain caused the overflow of 10 rivers in various locations in the country from 03 to 05 July 2022. At least 3 people have died and dozens displaced.

Heavy rain, floods and landslides have caused at least 3 fatalities according to disaster officials and local media reports. One person died after being swept away by floods in Azogues in the province of Cañar. Another person died when a house collapsed in Azuay. A third fatality was reported after floods in the canton of Guamote in the province of Chimborazo.

Australia floods: 50,000 people in Sydney told to evacuate

Floods have hit Australia's largest city Sydney for the third time this year prompting evacuation warnings to 50,000 people.

Parts of Sydney have received about eight months of rain in four days.

Roads have been cut off, some houses are under water and thousands have been left without power.

Widespread flooding across Australia - driven by a La Niña weather pattern - has killed more than 20 people this year, many in New South Wales.

At least 3 people have died after flash floods in Baling District in the state of Kedah, Malaysia.

Flooding struck after heavy rain from 04 July 2022. Levels of the Ketil River at Kuala Pegang jumped to 36.05 metres, which is 50 cm above the alert level.

Flooding swamped at least 9 villages in the district. Malaysia's disaster management agency reported 1,424 people evacuated their homes and moved to emergency accommodation as of 05 July.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department said the bodies of 3 family members who were reported missing were found during the morning of 05 July 2022.

Flood water reached up to roof height. Over 70 houses were severely damaged and at least 6 completely destroyed by the force of the flooding. Local media reported some victims swept away by the floods managed to survive by holding on to trees and branches. Bridges and roads were also destroyed.

A tropical storm was moving slowly eastward toward the western and central parts of the Japanese archipelago Tuesday, bringing torrential rain and causing flooding as well as landslides.

Tropical Storm Aere, which made landfall on Kyushu before weakening into an extratropical low-pressure system, is expected to destabilize weather conditions nationwide through Wednesday, according to the Meteorological Agency.

The storm made landfall close to Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, shortly before 6 a.m. It was reduced to an extratropical low-pressure system at 9 a.m. and had an atmospheric pressure of 1,002 hectopascals at its center, the agency said.

Humanitarian agencies in Bangladesh report that more than 4.3 million people have been exposed to the flooding currently affecting wide areas in the north east of the country.

Rivers in Sylhet Division have flooded for the second time in a few weeks. "The flooding is the worst in 122 years in the Sylhet region," said Atiqul Haque, Director General of Bangladesh's Department of Disaster Management, Reuters reported.

Wide areas of Sunamganj and Sylhet districts in Sylhet Division are submerged. Damage to roads has left Sunamganj disconnected from the rest of the country. Road links to Sylhet district have also been damaged and railway operations suspended. The Government has deployed Army, Navy and Coast Guard teams to conduct search and rescue operations. Other affected districts are Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Maulvibazar, Netrakona and Kishoreganj.

Flood death toll rises to 92

So far 92 people have died in the flood-affected districts across the country in the last 13 days, according to the data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In addition, 9,496 people were affected with various diseases such as vision impairment, diarrhea, skin diseases or sustained snake bites during this period.

Of the casualties, four deaths and 819 infections were reported in the last 24 hours.

They died being drowned in flood water and bitten by snakes.

A total of 2,048 medical teams are working in the flood-hit four divisions, said DGHS.

The ongoing flood claimed seven more lives in Netrokona and Lalmonirhat districts in 24 hours till Saturday morning, raising the total fatalities to 102.

All the deceased died by drowning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the total deceased, 75 people died by drowning in floodwater, 15 from lightning strikes, two from snake bites, one from diarrhoea, and nine due to other reasons.

The total deaths were recorded from May 17 to July 3.

On July 2, 2022, affected by the strong convective weather, heavy rain occurred in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. The Taiyuan Meteorological Observatory has issued a red warning of urban waterlogging meteorological risk, and the warning area was six urban areas.

Due the torrential rains, many sections of Taiyuan City, such as the Wayao Street on Qianfeng North Road and Mengshan Street on Xinjinci Road, were seriously flooded, and traffic was interrupted for a time. In addition, the depth of water accumulation in several other road sections ranges from 20 cm to 50 cm.
