Over the past week, the upper mountain of Palisades Tahoe received 17 inches of fresh snow. This storm brought in cold temperatures that helped preserve the existing snow and provide better coverage on the open runs at the resort.
The resort will continue operations Friday-Sunday through the end of May, plus Memorial Day. This weekend, Palisades Tahoe will be open for skiing and riding on the upper mountain only, with terrain for every ability level.
A spring snowstorm in the Sierra on Sunday caught some travelers along Interstate-80 off guard. "I'm wearing shorts and little short socks," Danny Dockter said, laughing. "So, yeah, I wasn't expecting it. I live in Reno, so I know about snow and ice and the weather so I would've dressed a little bit better when I took off."

The heavy snow caused an hours-long closure of Interstate 80 on Monday from Big Springs to the Wyoming border. The Nebraska State Patrol said on Twitter that the weather conditions led to multiple crashes, causing the road to be shut down in both directions.
The heavy, wet snow also downed trees and power lines. Parts of Kimball were without power briefly Monday morning because of downed power lines, the Scottsbluff Star-Herald reported.
Heavy fog and icy conditions have closed the Mauna Kea Summit Access Road to the public along with the Visitor Information Station.
Located at an elevation of 9,200 feet, the station is reporting downright wintry conditions with ice and snow on the road, freezing temperatures and thunderstorms.
A time lapse video from the summit over the last 24-48 hours shows a healthy dusting of snow falling on the mountain. Monday afternoon, temperatures dropped to 30 degrees, but factoring in wind chill, it felt like 21 degrees, officials said.
Rangers will continue monitoring road and weather conditions and will reopen the road to the public when the conditions are safe.
A rare May snowfall hit Taiwan's highest mountain Monday afternoon, caused by strong and very moist easterly winds sweeping through the island, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
It was only the fifth time since 1990 that snow had fallen in May on Yushan, also known as Mt. Jade, following snowfalls there in 1995, 1997, 2000, and 2011. The latest snow has ever been recorded on Yushan in May was on May 31, 1955, the CWB said.
The snow began to fall on the mountain at 1:30 p.m. and lasted until 2:10 p.m. Monday when it turned into rain, the CWB said, but it forecast more snow to come later in the day.

Portions of California, Kansas, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island are currently under advisories from the National Weather Service due to frost and freeze concerns.
