Extremely high temperatures are forecast for India Thursday, with above 90 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures shown in orange, and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures shown in dark red.
Life-threatening heat waves arrived in India a month earlier than normal, shattering temperature records, with highs reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) -- and it will only get hotter.

The worst of the heat wave is expected late this week into this weekend with high temperatures approaching 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit (5-8 degrees Celsius) above normal across northern and northwestern India as well as parts of Pakistan.

Over one billion people will be subjected to excessive heat -- 10% of the world's population, according to Scott Duncan, an extreme climate expert.

This region, including New Delhi, could endure temperatures in the mid to upper 40s Celsius -- which means temperatures over 110 and up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit are possible.

And, unfortunately, this heat wont sleep.

During this week the province of Neuquén was affected by a storm of snow and white wind that caused roadblocks and blown up roofs.

Gusts exceeded 100 kilometers per hour. The Undersecretary of Civil Defense and Citizen Protection, Martín Giusti, reported that from Zapala to the capital, the wind was the protagonist.

As a result of the storm, the Gendarmerie had to assist a dozen people stranded on roads that became impassable. They also had to rescue several people who were isolated in rural areas of "Pino Hachado" and "Copahue".

Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba hit by 2nd heavy snowstorm in 2 weeks

snow
It only took a matter of hours before power was knocked out and highways were closed, as a snowstorm rolled in to the Riding Mountain National Park area Saturday night.

The parkland area was hit hard with a second Colorado low in just two weeks. It brought strong wind gusts and thick heavy snow.

Electricity at the Elkhorn Resort was out when guests woke up Sunday morning, a disappointment for Toni Hayes.

"A lot of us came and thought, okay we're going to have a storm and it's going to melt or whatever," Hayes told Global News.

The weather had other plans for her, as she planned to head home to Minitonas on Sunday.

Late April blizzard could leave North Dakotans without power for days

A combination of ugly weather has left at least 19,000 people in western North Dakota facing days without power and thousands of residents along the Red River that separates that state from Minnesota dealing with flash flooding.

A blizzard over the weekend that included a mixture of snow, rain, ice and strong winds snapped hundreds or thousands of power poles in the western part of the state, leaving damage that a spokesman for a 100-year-old utility company called the worst ever in its system.

At the same time, Minnesota sent National Guard members to help sandbag in Crookston, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from the North Dakota border, due to heavy rains. The National Weather Service originally warned of a record crest on the Red Lake River but the river peaked Monday at about 27 feet. The record high water mark was 28.4 feet in 1997.

'Operation Thermostat': Energy rationing & the pivot from Ukraine to climate?

Power Plant
© Off-Guardian
Italy is officially becoming the first country to start rationing energy after cutting their supply of Russian gas and oil.

From next month, until at least March 2023, public buildings across the nation will be banned from running air conditioning at lower than 25 degrees, or heating higher than 19 degrees.

The plan, termed "Operation Thermostat" in the press, is being sold as a way for ordinary people to show "solidarity" with the people of Ukraine, with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi saying:
Do we want to have peace or do we want to have the air conditioning on?"
I'm not exactly sure how adjusting your thermostat is going to achieve 'peace', but hey we're living in the age of sentimental manipulation over reason, so - just believe.

For example, the Guardian is illustrating the story with pro-peace artwork allegedly done by Italian schoolchildren (in English, for some reason).

There's no talk yet of this kind of energy-rationing rule extending to private businesses or homes, but a marker has been set down. Expect other nations to follow suit.

After that of course will come the opinion pieces asking questions like "we rationed gas to fight Putin, why not climate change?", and headlines saying that "Europe-wide gas rationing was good for the planet" or something similar.

...Oh wait, it's already happening.

Spain hit by heavy April snowfall - 14 inches of snow

SNOW
In the 1,000 to 1,900 meter high town of Navacerrada in the Madrid region, about 50 kilometers northwest of the Spanish capital, there was, for example, 36 centimeters of fresh snow, as reported by the newspaper "El Pais" and other media, citing the responsible authorities.

There hadn't been such a heavy snowfall in April in the municipality with around 3,000 inhabitants for 20 years. Elsewhere in Spain, authorities reported problems on 26 major trunk roads.

It is not the snow itself that is surprising, reported "El Pais", but its intensity. Although these white images are surprising at this stage of spring, snow is not unheard of in Spain's main mountain ranges at this time of year, Aemet Weather Service spokesman Ruben del Campo said. The thick snowflakes, on the other hand, are unusual and conspicuous, according to the meteorologist.
