New study: Covid vaccine linked to menstrual changes

A recent study has shown that almost half of women who took the Covid vaccine have reported changes to their menstrual cycle.

The journal Science Advances published the results of a study on Friday articulating links between the Covid vaccine and changes to menstruation. They found that "42% of people with regular menstrual cycles bleed more heavily than usual." The study also showed that women who were post-menopause or who use long-term contraceptives reported unexpected breakthrough bleeding after taking the vaccine.

NBC reports that the survey was conducted with 39,000 participants between the ages of 18 to 80 who were vaccinated with Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Novavax vaccines. People between 45 and 55 were excluded to avoid inclusion of body changes due to menopause.

Comment: So much for the blame-it-on-white-men response...

The effectiveness of the Covid vaccines against serious disease declines to zero and turns negative within 12 months, official figures from the Netherlands show.

A report this week from the Dutch Ministry of Health explains that there is "hardly any visible protective effect" anymore for people with two vaccine doses because it has "now been nearly a year since they were vaccinated, and the protection provided by vaccinations against hospitalisation diminishes over time".

Using hospitalisation figures from March 15th to June 28th 2022, the report finds that overall vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisation from two doses was 0%. Broken down by age, it was 22% for 12-49 year-olds, minus-52% for 50-69 year-olds and 15% for the over-70s. Vaccine effectiveness against ICU admission was minus-20% overall, breaking down to 45% for 12-49 year olds, minus-31% for 50-69 year-olds and minus-43% for over-70s. These figures are shown in the table below, along with confidence intervals and figures for the booster and 'repeat shot' (herhaalprik). (Translations: basis means the basic course i.e., two doses; ziekenhuisopnames is hospital admissions; IC-opnames is ICU admissions; ten opzichte van niet gevaccineerd means relative to unvaccinated.)

A report that was quietly published by the UK Government, just hours before Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation, reveals that Covid-19 deaths have risen dramatically among the triple vaccinated population in England over the past couple of months whilst declining drastically among the unvaccinated population.

With the most recent figures showing the vaccinated population in England accounted for a shocking 94% of all Covid-19 Deaths in April and May, and 90% of those deaths were among the triple/quadruple vaccinated population.

Over the past week there have been a number of posts about data on deaths in England by vaccination status, both for deaths related to Covid and other deaths. For example, this post on Twitter:
This approach doesn't tell the whole story, however - there are far fewer unvaccinated in England thus you'd expect there to be far fewer deaths with Covid.

The actual data from the ONS suggest that there are more deaths with Covid in the unvaccinated than in the triple-vaccinated for May 2022:

That seems fairly conclusive - vaccination seems to offer a slight benefit for those aged under 60, with reductions in mortality from an already low risk to even lower. But as always, the devil is in the details.

Deaths after vaccination in Pfizer trial not fully investigated, new documents reveal

Three participants in the Pfizer Covid vaccine trial died shortly after vaccination and their deaths were not fully investigated, it has been revealed.

The revelations come in a report from Pfizer released on July 1st by court order as part of the documents which the U.S. FDA relied on to grant emergency use authorisation for the Pfizer vaccine in December 2020. They add to worries that adverse effects of the vaccine in the clinical trials were not properly documented, giving a potentially misleading picture of the drug's safety.

One of the deceased participants, a 56-year-old woman known as subject #10071101, was given two doses of the vaccine on July 30th and August 20th 2020 and died from a cardiac arrest two months later. In Pfizer's report on the participant it says:
In the opinion of the investigator, there was no reasonable possibility that the cardiac arrest was related to the study intervention of clinical trial procedures, as the death occurred two months after receiving Dose 2. Pfizer concurred with the investigator's causality assessment.
However, it's not clear how the investigator and Pfizer can be so sure the death was unrelated to the vaccine when there was no autopsy and no thorough medical assessment. As Sonia Elijah, who has analysed the report and summarised parts of it for Trial Site News, comments:

About a week later, Diamond was found unconscious in his apartment, He was taken to a local hospital in Minnesota, where he remained in a coma for three weeks.

Pervasive blood clots — a known side effect of the J&J vaccine — had shut down his kidneys and other organs. The condition caused doctors to amputate eight of his fingers, without his knowledge or consent, while he was still in a coma.

Doctors push hard for child vaccination despite their own research showing it is unnecessary

According to a study recently published in the Paediatric Infectious Disease Journal, the risk of COVID-19 to children is truly minuscule. The study tracks the outcomes for Icelandic children with a positive COVID-19 test, covering all the children who tested positive during the study period. It concludes that out of the 1,749 children tracked, none had severe symptoms and no child needed hospitalisation. A fifth of the children showed no symptoms.

It is curious, then, that when Icelandic health authorities decided to offer COVID-19 vaccination to 5-11 year-old children earlier this year, two of the four study authors were among the most vocal advocates of the policy.

At the time, the health risks related to COVID-19 vaccines were becoming increasingly clear, with the rate of reported serious adverse effects in Iceland 75-fold the rate for flu vaccines in 2019. The French Medical Academy had recommended against vaccinating healthy young children, Swedish authorities had decided not to offer them vaccination and the JCVI had recommended against it. But Icelandic authorities decided to go ahead with an organised campaign.

New York researchers transplanted pig hearts into two brain-dead people over the last month, the latest in a string of developments in the long quest to one day save human lives with animal organs.

The experiments announced Tuesday come after a historic but failed attempt earlier this year to use a pig's heart to save a dying Maryland man — sort of a rehearsal before scientists try again in the living.

Among the lessons: Practice with the deceased is important.
