Los Angeles sees outbreak of flea-borne typhus among homeless

typhus
An outbreak of typhus has struck downtown Los Angeles. The outbreak has been blamed on the skyrocketing number of homeless people in the area.

According to the Los Angeles County Health Department, 20 cases of the rare, flea-borne infectious disease, which is also associated with poor sanitary conditions and overcrowding, have been recorded in Pasadena alone over the past two months. Health officials now say that the outbreak has reached "epidemic levels," according to the New York Post.

There are several forms of typhus, (also known as typhoid fever) which is a type of bacterial infection known as the species rickettsia and transmitted by biting bugs (arthropods) such as lice, ticks, mites, and rat fleas. When a person is diagnosed with typhus, it means they are infected with one or more types of rickettsia bacteria. After a bite occurs, scratching the itching bite further opens the skin and allows the bacteria greater access to the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, the bacteria continue to reproduce and grow.

The CDC continues its yearly push for the ineffective flu shot

© Global Look Press
As Americans prepare for another flu season, the question of whether to get this year's flu shot hangs in the air for many and the dismal success rate of last year's vaccine could serve as a major deciding factor.

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report earlier this year, which revealed that when looking at the flu vaccine given to patients between November 2017 and February 2018, the vaccine was only effective about 36 percent of the time.

Each strain of influenza responded differently to the vaccine, and the CDC report noted that one of the most predominant viruses, H3N2, had an even lower vaccine effectiveness rate. When combating H3N2, last year's virus was only effective 25 percent of the time.

This was actually higher in the United States than it was in Canada and Australia where the vaccine's effectiveness in combating H3N2 was only around 10 percent. The vaccine did lead to higher success rates with less dangerous strands such as H1N1 where it was 67 percent effective and Influenza B where it was 42 percent effective.

Six cases of rare polio-like neurologic condition 'with no cure' confirmed in Minnesota

Children
© Desmond Boylan / Reuters
Minnesota has reported an outbreak of a rare condition of the nervous system that has affected six children across the state. No single cure exists for acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), which can cause death in its most severe cases.

While the rare condition, which results in acute muscle weakness and the loss of muscle tone in the arms or legs, typically strikes one patient in the Midwestern US state annually, six children under the age of ten were hospitalized with it in Minnesota, starting from mid-September, the Department of Health (MDH) reported. Cases of AFM were confirmed in the Twin Cities, central Minnesota and northeastern Minnesota.

"MDH disease investigators are working aggressively with health care providers to gather information about the cases," state health officials said in a statement. "The department is also in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to share information."

The acute cases of the sickness, also known as Enterovirus 68 (EV68), could lead to a dysfunction of the nerves controlling the head and neck, with noted facial weakness, drooping of the eyes and difficulty swallowing all potentially developing in patients. AFM's most severe cases could lead to respiratory failure and eventually death, if the muscles responsible for breathing become too weak to carry out their functions.

Seventh-day Adventist Church holds massive influence in official dietary guidelines and the push towards vegetarianism

Seventh Day Adventist Church
I honestly wish I could say that I had published the review; 'The Global Influence of the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Diet', as it summarises the years of extensive research I have been doing, trying to prove that Gary has been 'Silenced' for advocating Low Carb Healthy Fat principles. It has never been about the science.

The review is an amazing historical perspective on the ideology of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and their subsequent influence on nutrition 'science' and dietary guidelines, world-wide.

I would think that this review publication, written by Seventh-day Adventists, should be compulsory reading for anyone who wants to study nutrition or write nutrition policy. Especially when you consider the current nutrition doctrine; which espouses grain as the sacred cow and demonises animal protein and fats, has come to be accepted as the gospel truth! The benefits of Wholegrain, Plant-Based diets are preached by the Dietitians Association of Australia, Diabetes Australia and the Heart Foundation of Australia, all with ties to Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing, a wholly owned Church 'processed food company'.

Comment: It's ironic that the average vegetarian, outside the SDA church, has no idea they are essentially eating a religiously prescribed diet. The self-described liberal-atheist-SJW would probably balk at the idea of eating a 'Christian' diet. It's rather amazing how much of people's current conception of a 'healthy diet' comes from a pathological religious institution. Straight out of 'god's' mouth into the mainstream media headlines.

Medical cannabis will be made available to UK patients via prescription from next month, after a long battle with spotlight on children and other patients whose conditions were eased by the substance.

Until now, the drug has been listed as a schedule one drug - the strictest schedule possible - under UK law, limiting medical cannabis to be allowed in only exceptional circumstances and requires a Home Office license to use legally.

The new regime, which moves the drug to schedule two, will apply to cannabis oil that contains THC, the active ingredient that causes people to get "high" when used in a recreational setting. Cannabis oil without THC is already legal in the UK and available in high street shops.

The Home Office is expected to announce the "rescheduling" of cannabis in parliament within the next two weeks, and patients will be able to obtain prescriptions for medical cannabis products within a matter of weeks, according to British media.

FDA loophole can turn $10 supplements into $40,000 drugs

pills on a table
Help us ensure the supplement form remains available. Action Alert!

Earlier this year, we told you about an FDA back-channel that allows drug companies to turn supplements into drugs-and remove the supplement versions from the market. This has happened to a popular and medically important version of vitamin B6 (pyridoxamine), and with the FDA's approval of a new drug to treat sickle cell anemia, the same could happen to L-glutamine. Unless we close a back-channel at the FDA, more and more supplements will be turned into expensive drugs, and consumers won't be able to manage their health cheaply and naturally with the supplement versions.

Last year, the FDA announced the approval of Endari, a drug for sickle cell disease. Endari is an oral powder comprised of L-glutamine, an important amino acid currently available as a supplement. The drug company, Emmaus Medical, Inc., filed an investigational new drug (IND) application-demonstrating their investigation of L-glutamine as a drug-on May 15, 1997. This is important because there is no new dietary ingredient (NDI) notification for L-glutamine. (Think of an NDI notification as a "new supplement" notification; by law an NDI notification must be filed on supplements that came to market after 1994.)

Need to bust up your kidney stones? Take a roller coaster ride

kidney stones
Can a roller-coaster ride hasten the passage of kidney stones? While the pairing of an agonizingly painful health condition with an amusement ride may seem too outlandish to believe, research out of Michigan State University (MSU) has been recognized with a 2018 Ig® Nobel Prize for showing that it's possible.1

Keep in mind the Ig (for ignoble) is a spoof of the real Nobel Prize. Since 1991, it has been awarded every fall at a ceremony held at Harvard University. Organized by the scientific humor magazine The Annals of Improbable Research, the Ig acknowledges 10 unusual or trivial scientific research projects that "[make] people laugh and then think."2

Lest you assume human clinical trials were used to demonstrate the potential of roller coasters to facilitate the passing of kidney stones, you should know the outcomes were based only on anecdotal evidence and experiments with a silicon model.

Now that the Ig award has shed some light on an unusual treatment for kidney stones, let's take a closer look at how these stones form and what you can do more practically to prevent and treat them.

Have 80,000 Americans really died from the flu - Or is this a Big Pharma con to push the 'flu vaccine'?

flu propaganda
The New York Times is reporting that 80,000 Americans died of the flu last winter and that it's the highest death toll yet. Scary articles like these are thinly veiled attempts to push Americans into the vaccine regime (get your flu shots or you're going to die!) out of fear, panic, and hysteria. Maybe it is the highest death toll yet, however, there is more than meets the eye.

The Big Pharma-media-government conglomerate has a lot staked in keeping you unwell, scared and dependent. Frightened, self-doubting, and unhealthy people are much easier to control.

But first, it's not just about money...

A lot of people point to the billions that Big Pharma rakes in annually as a reason for why they push their drugs and don't care about injuries and death that could result from them: vaccines, opioids, antidepressants, etc.

Sure, but money is just a tool for a bigger goal.

28 medical studies come to the same shocking conclusion: Fluoride is linked to lower intelligence in children

brain scans
To date, there are at least 53 known international scientific studies concluding that fluoride consumption is harmful to the development of intelligence in children, it impairs their learning and memory capacity. Children are commonly exposed to fluoride from municipal water supplies, dental treatments, environmental pollution, and in-utero.

Municipal water fluoridation is a state-mandated pharmacological intervention that ostensibly aims to fight dental fluorosis, but this claim is highly contested, and a growing body of research indicates that water fluoridation is linked to lower IQ in children. Medication without consent is a human rights violation.

In 2017, former EPA senior scientist, William Hirzy, PhD noted:
"The significance of this peer reviewed risk analysis is that it indicates there may be no actual safe level of exposure to fluoride. Groups of children with lower exposures to fluoride were compared with groups having higher exposures. Those with higher exposures performed more poorly on IQ tests than those with lower exposures." ~Former EPA senior scientist, William Hirzy, PhD
