Lightning strike kills two persons in Odisha, India

Two persons were killed in a lightning strike at Santrapur village under Ghatagaon police limits in Keonjhar district on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Hiramani Munda (65) and Binati Munda (35).

According to reports, Hiramani and Binita had taken goats to the nearby forest for grazing. When they were inside the forest, it rained heavily.

To protect themselves from rain they had taken shelter in a cave when lightning struck them. The two collapsed after lightning struck them.

Locals rushed them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Ghatagaon. However, they were declared dead by the attending doctors at the CHC.

Heavy rain has caused severe flooding in Huaihua, Hunan, China on June 20th 2022.

The floods follow several days of continuous rain in the region.

Buildings were destroyed, as the force of the water destroyed walls.

Farmlands were flooded, destroying crops and produce.

Roads were flooded, with some collapsing, isolating areas.

The rain caused landslides, which blocked railways, causing further disruption.

Fresh June snowfall in Kashmir, India

The border town of Gurez, and some other upper reaches, including Baltal Base Camp near Amarnath holy cave, received fresh snowfall on Wednesday while rains lashed other parts of Kashmir valley, resulting in considerable dip in the maximum temperature.

An official said that Gurez sector of Bandipora district, received light to moderate snow since late last night, resulting in dip in the maximum temperature.

Summer snow blankets central Afghanistan

According to the local sources, unprecedented and heavy snowfall in central Afghanistan's Bamyan province at this time of the year will pose a threat to the livestock and damage agricultural products.

Several people in various regions of Bamyan province have reported that it has snowed to an unusual level in their localities at the start of the summer season, sharing images of the snow.

Residents of villages in Bamyan and the Qarghanato area of the province report that snow fell last night in many of these villages, and the weather was substantially colder.

Two killed by elephant herd in Odisha, India

Villagers in Bangiriposi range under Baripada territorial division in Mayurbhanj district are in a state of panic after two persons were killed by a herd of elephants on Sunday night. The deceased have been identified as Fulamani Munda (72) and Budhia Munda (38) of Digarisole village.

Divisional Forest Officer of Baripada Territorial division, Santosh Kumar Joshi said a herd of elephants from Jharkhand went to the house of the woman and pushed a portion of the wall that fell on her and killed her when she was asleep. Munda was attacked by the herd when he was on way home from the local market.

Initially the forest department had provided ' 40000 compensation to the family of the deceased and the rest will be provided after submitting documents though Anukampa App, he added.

Elephant in India kills woman, then returns to trample her corpse at her funeral

An elephant attacked a 70-year-old woman in India, killing her, local police said. Though, the elephant did not stop there. The enormous animal made its return, but this time to her funeral, trampling her corpse.

According to Newsweek, the elephant escaped from Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, which is about 10 miles from Jamshedpur.

The Indian publication The Print said the older woman Maya Murmu was attacked while fetching water in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district.

She was rushed to the hospital, but her injuries were too severe. Her family held a funeral for her, only for the elephant to return and trample her corpse.

2 year old foreign child in ICU after pit bill attack in Pattaya, Thailand

A 2 year old foreign boy is being treated in the ICU after he was mauled by a Pit Bull in Pattaya on Monday. The young child suffered a broken jaw, torn cheeks, and an open wound on his head which required 200 stitches.

At 4pm on Monday, a foreign nanny took 2 foreign boys - aged 2 and 4 - on a walk in a village in South Pattaya. A Thai woman opened her front door to take the rubbish out as the 3 walked past and a Pit Bull, weighing more than 70 kilograms, ran out of the house and immediately charged at the 2 year old boy. The 4 year old managed to escape in time.

The two women tried to intervene but couldn't get the Pit Bull away from the young boy. Neighbours ran over to help separate the dog from the child, who was already seriously injured.

One neighbour who ran over to help was 67 year old Somkiat. Somkiat says he saw the attack and immediately ran over to hit the dog with a stick. He said it took several minutes to get the dog away from the child. One neighbour's CTTV camera captured the incident, which lasted for more than 5 minutes.

Ivory Coast - Deadly floods and landslides in Abidjan again after 6 inches of rain in 12 hours

Heavy rain has once again caused flooding and landslides in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), where authorities say at least 6 people have died. This is the second spate of flooding to hit the city in the last 7 days.

Heavy rainfall overnight from 20 to 21 June 2022 triggered flash flooding and landslides in parts of Abidjan. According to data from the Ivory Coast meteorological agency, parts of Yopougon recorded 161 mm of rain and Cocody 158 mm in 12 hours to early 21 June.

As of 21 June, the Civil Protection Agency reported 6 people had died including 4 children aged 4 to 15, all from the same family, who lost their lives in the village of Angorankoi in the commune of Bingerville, after part of their house collapsed due to rising waters.

Hemkund Yatra stopped as a precautionary measure due to bad weather
Pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara, the revered Sikh shrine in Chamoli district, was stopped by the district authorities on Monday following heavy snowfall along the yatra route.

Nearly 7,000 pilgrims were stopped at Govindghat and Ghangriya by the authorities from undertaking the yatra till there is improvement in weather conditions. Moreover, pilgrims staying at Rishikesh, Srinagar and Nagrasu gurdwara have been advised to remain there.

SP Chamoli, Shweta Choubey, said, "Hemkund Sahib witnessed over one feet of snowfall on Monday morning following which the yatra was temporarily halted, keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims."

Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara is situated at a height of around 15,000 ft in the Garhwal Himalayas.
