A plague of green elephants is stampeding across Australia

3 Green Elephants
© Climate Change Dispatch
Legend says that if you displeased the King of Siam, he would give you a white elephant. These rare and protected elephants were incredibly expensive to keep.

So a "White Elephant" came to mean a possession that is useless, troublesome, expensive to maintain, and difficult to dispose of - like a Sacred Cow, but much bigger. [bold, links added]

Today, the deluded rulers of the Western world are gifting us and future generations with plagues of Green Elephants - useless, expensive, protected green rubbish.

The biggest green elephants in Australia are the five desalination plants built hurriedly when climate catastrophist Tim Flannery forecast that burning hydrocarbons would create perpetual drought.

He forgot La Nina with its cycles of rain and floods for Australia. Flannery's complex, expensive de-sal plants have largely sat idle.

The sun powers the greatest desalination plant on earth, all for free. If we had spent all that desalination money on dams we could have moderated La Nina flood damage, insulated against El Nino droughts, and provided naturally desalinated water for many towns and industries.

Australia was also conned into a war on hydrocarbons by American climate catastrophist Al Gore and his animated cartoon.

This generated another epidemic of Green Elephants — solar panels, wind turbines, and spiderwebs of power lines that squander capital, uglify our landscapes and destroy grasslands, forests, and birdlife, as well as destroying our once-cheap and reliable electricity supply.

Future generations will be faced with the removal and disposal of these Green Monuments to Stupidity.

Hidden Western hand behind new British-style Ukraine anti-worker laws exposed in leaked documents

How London played a role in Zelensky's newest clampdown on the rights of the country's citizens

In a scheme which may have been devised in far away London, Europe's lowest paid workforce has just lost some of the few precious protections it had. The measure flies in the face of Ukraine's apparent ambitions to join the European Union.

On August 22, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky ratified highly controversial new labor laws, ones that have wide-ranging negative implications for the overwhelming majority of the country's workers.

Collectively known as Bill 5371, the legislation robs up to 70 percent of Ukrainian employees of rights and protections provided under the country's established national labor law, while severely restricting the power of already-embattled trade unions to organize.

'Overcoming 60 years of apartheid is not the same as marrying a white prince': Nelson Mandela's grandson slams Meghan Markle

Nelson Mandela's grandson today slammed Meghan Markle for suggesting her marriage to Prince Harry sparked scenes of joy in South Africa reminiscent of the 1990 release of the legendary anti-apartheid campaigner after 27 years in jail, telling MailOnline: 'It can never be compared to the celebration of someone's wedding.'

Zwelivelile 'Mandla' Mandela has said he was 'surprised' at her remarks in The Cut magazine when she claimed that three years ago a cast member of the Lion King had made the comparison between her royal wedding and Madiba's historic walk to freedom.

He said: 'Madiba's celebration was based on overcoming 350 years of colonialism with 60 years of a brutal apartheid regime in South Africa. So It cannot be equated to as the same.'

Comment: Daily Mail reports:
The South African composer [Lebohang Morake] who met the Duchess of Sussex at the Lion King premiere in London today insisted he can't remember speaking to her about Nelson Mandela after the movie's only South African actor told MailOnline he was 'baffled' by her suggestion his country had 'rejoiced' when she married Prince Harry.

Lebohang Morake, whose professional name is 'Lebo M', said he spoke to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for 'less than a minute' at the West End launch of the film for which he composed music in 2019.

...

The only South African cast member Dr John Kani yesterday denied it was he who made the controversial remarks. And Nelson Mandela's grandson also slammed Meghan saying the release of his freedom-fighting grandfather after 27 years in jail for his beliefs did not 'equate' with her marrying a prince.

...

[Dr Kani went on to say] 'That was a world event. Surely Miss Meghan or whatever marrying into royalty cannot in any way be spoken in the same breath or even the same sentence as that moment.

'It lives in our memories forever to the world. It is a kind of "Where were you when JFK was shot...where were you when Nelson Mandela was released"?

'You can't really say where you were when Meghan married Harry.

'I am confused about this. She is an important person in her own life.

Best of the Web: Three terms Communists have redefined to subvert society

Over the past two years, tens of millions of Americans have awakened to the fact that the "Dialectical Left," which includes Communism, achieves its agendas most effectively by strategically changing the meanings of words. This is a tactic that is very effective until it is recognized, at which point it rapidly becomes counterproductive because it is so obviously manipulative and so easily resisted by demanding clear definitions, especially in policy documents. The challenge is that there are a lot of words that our society depends upon, which allows Communist activists to move on from one word to another, then to another, as their language games get exposed.

Some of these strategic equivocations about the meanings of words are more impactful than others. Currently, there are just three terms that have been profoundly subverted and are being used to transform our society by Communists for Communist ends. These are inclusion, democracy, and citizenship. All three are being redefined together. Understanding how this manipulation is taking place is key to neutralizing it, and that starts with understanding how these three words are being strategically misused. First, let's discuss the general principle of how the Communist or Dialectical Left redefines terms to achieve its ends.

Hospital tells black people and over-65s not to visit loved ones "because of Covid"

hospital
An NHS hospital trust has come under fire for giving ICU visitors a form telling them that if they are "black, Asian or minority ethnic" they should not visit because they are deemed to be at higher risk of COVID-19.

The "patient visitation disclaimer" from Wye Valley NHS Trust (depicted below) also tells the over-65s, pregnant women, diabetics and obese people, among a list of 11 categories, that they are "discouraged from visiting" for safety reasons. It informs the visitor he or she has "chosen to visit a loved one in hospital during a global pandemic", as though that is something blameable for which he or she should feel ashamed.

Visitors are expected to sign this acknowledgement that they are not welcome along with a pledge to follow all directions of hospital staff as regards masks and personal protective equipment "in order ensure [sic] maximum safety to [sic] everyone".

A Washington school board approved a policy on Aug. 24 prohibiting the teaching of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in classrooms.

The Kennewick School Board in Kennewick, Washington, voted 5-0 on a policy which bans educators from teaching students CRT or that "their race determines their value or worth." The policy requires that students learn "factual" U.S. history in all disciplines at school.

The policy bans "indoctrination" and teaching "the belief that the U.S. is fundamentally or systemically racist." Curriculums now under review by the passing of the policy should be examined through a lens of "neutrality, objectivity and educational effectiveness"

Widely-circulating videos on social media that show security forces brutally assaulting and beating a group of girls at an orphanage in Saudi Arabia's southwestern 'Asir province have sent ripples of anger and outrage across the world.

The footage, first posted on Twitter on Tuesday by a woman who filmed the attack, shows dozens of men in a security uniform and others in national attire chasing and attacking women with tasers, beating them with wooden sticks and lashing them with leather belts.

The incident happened in the city of Khamis Mushait, located some 884 kilometers (some 550 miles) southwest of the capital Riyadh, during a raid.

Suez Canal briefly blocked again after another ship, Affinity V, becomes stuck

A tanker getting stuck used to be more the domain of niche business news, but that was before the Ever Given, so all eyes were soon on the Affinity V tanker's plight in the Suez Canal.

On Wednesday, the 250-metre long Affinity V tanker was bound for Saudi Arabia when it ran aground close to the same spot in the narrow southern section of the canal in Egypt where the Ever Given container ship caused a week-long halt to traffic in March 2021, dominating global headlines and paralysing supply chains.

The plight of the Singapore-flagged vessel raised alarm bells reminiscent of the kind of delays that forced the owners of the Ever Given to pay compensation of more than $200m to the Suez Canal Authority.

Comment: What with the continuing clearance of the backlogs and the ongoing shortage of items, one wonders just what's causing this recurrence of issues at one of the world's most critical shipping lanes? Is it because companies are under much more pressure? They're short staffed? There are environmental effects disrupting the navigation system? Could sabotage also be a possibility?

It's now illegal for anyone under 21 to buy canned whipped cream in New York, officials say it's to stop teens from inhaling nitrous oxide

canned whipped cream
It is illegal for New Yorkers under age 21 to purchase a can of whipped cream, according to recently-passed state law.

The law, which went into effect in November 2021, is meant to prevent teenagers from using canned whipped cream to inhale nitrous oxide, otherwise known as "whippits."

"Inhalants are invisible, volatile substances found in common household products that produce chemical vapors that are inhaled to induce psychoactive or mind-altering effects," according to a US Drug Enforcement Administration factsheet.

Sam Husseini flags an unhinged exchange between NPR's Terry Gross and New York Times Magazine writer Robert Draper.

In a remarkably unhinged analysis, NPR host Terry Gross and New York Times Magazine writer Robert Draper claimed that Russia is a communist country — as they went on about how detached from reality rightwing Republicans are.

After I and others tweeted about this, NPR posted this correction:
"POST-BROADCAST CORRECTION: In the audio version of this story, Terry Gross incorrectly states that Russia is a communist country, when she meant to say that Putin was the head of the KGB during the communist era."

Comment: The Left has everything so backwards there's really no hope in setting them right. All you can really do is sit on the sidelines and laugh at their 'high IQ' hot takes.
