Pedophile pastor arrested for sexually abusing another child; church members rallied to his defense

A West Virginia pastor was accused of sexual abuse of a young boy last year, and the allegations were so graphic that local WCHSTV couldn't publish them. Now the same pastor is behind bars on another allegation of abuse.

James Robert "JR" Smith was arrested last year on charges he sexually abused a boy since 2009, starting when the boy was 10 years old, WCHSTV reports. He was out on bond when he was arrested again Tuesday for molestation charges in a different state.

Smith was a pastor at Morning Star House of Prayer in West Virginia. The second allegation happened in Indiana.

Last year, a member of his church continued to support him after he was arrested the first time on counts of first degree sexual abuse and sexual abuse by a parent or guardian.

"I just think that it's somebody that's out to sabotage him and I won't believe no different," church member Janice Allen told the station. "Ever seen he's been here, there's been tales told on him. He's been confronted with it. Nobody can prove anything that's even been said on him."

The first victim, now 15, came forward last May and said that the most recent incident of abuse happened in April. The boy told authorities that Smith told him "bad things" would happen if he told anyone. Smith apparently lived with the boy and his family. The alleged abuse happened in multiple states.

Smith was arraigned Tuesday on the second set of charges and is held without bail pending an extradition hearing, WCHSTV reports.

Comment: For a better understanding of how and where these sick predators operate, read Predators: Pedophiles, Rapists, and Other Sex Offenders, Who They Are, How They Operate, and How We Can Protect Ourselves and Our Children by Dr. Anna Salter:
"One molester, who himself was a minister, said: 'I considered church people easy to fool ... they have the trust that comes from being Christians ... They tend to be better folks all around. And they seem to want to believe in the good that exists in all people. And because of that, you can easily convince, with or without convincing words.'

In interviewing victims in the growing number of cases involving priests, I have been surprised - although I should not have been - by how deeply religious many of the victims' families were. I have never before grasped that it was the most religious families who were thrilled to have a priest take an interest in their children, who wanted their children to be altar boys, who could not believe that a priest would do anything so wrong.

The growing crisis in the Catholic Church just underlines the fact that offenders can recognize ideal settings for child molesters even if the rest of us can't. In truth, a deeply religious and trusting group of people, plus the requirement of celibacy (an ideal cover for any man who has no sexual interest in adults), plus a hierarchy that doesn't report complaints to the police and simply moves the offender on to new and fresh territory with new potential victims, is the ideal setting for pedophiles."

Irish High Court Justice: Extraditing man to US prison system would be "cruel and unusual punishment"

Image
Throughout the world, the U.S. prison system is often seen as inhumane and excessively large.

The American prison system is so reviled, in fact, that Irish officials recently refused to extradite an alleged terrorist to the United States. The court cited concerns that if he were sent to the U.S., he would probably be placed in Colorado's "Supermax" prison, ADX Florence (Administrative Maximum Facility). The prison is nicknamed Colorado's "Alcatraz of the Rockies."

Irish High Court Justice Aileen Donnelly went as far as to write a 333-page report about why the suspect shouldn't be extradited. One highlight from the court's ruling was that incarceration at ADX Florence prison would amount to "cruel and unusual punishment."

Donnelly said the prison "amounts to a breach of the constitutional requirement to protect persons from inhuman and degrading treatment and to respect the dignity of the human being."

"[P]rolonged exposure to involuntary solitary confinement exacts a significant physiological toll, is damaging to the integrity of the mind and personality, and is damaging to the bodily integrity of the person," she continued.

The power of the Israel lobby: Univ. of Illinois chancellor who fired Steven Salaita for tweets critical of Israel admits to destroying evidence

Image
© Jeffrey Putney/FlickrStudents and faculty rallied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on 11 September 2014 after trustees voted to reject the appointment of Steven Salaita.
More than 1,000 pages of newly released emails expose unethical and possibly illegal behavior by campus officials regarding the University of Illinois' decision to fire Steven Salaita after he made tweets critical of Israel's assault on Gaza last summer.

The emails show that top officials colluded to conceal information and one administrator even destroyed what might be key evidence. But just as stunning are the developments leading up to the university's release of the emails.

On Thursday, 6 August, a federal judge cleared the way for Salaita's lawsuit to proceed against university administrators and trustees for breach of contract and violation of his First Amendment free speech rights.

Salaita alleges that the officials fired him to appease, among others, pro-Israel donors.

The judge's ruling all but demolished the university's key arguments that it did not have a valid and binding contract with Salaita. But the judge did not allow the claims against as yet unnamed donors to proceed.

Hysterical #BlackLivesMatter protesters shut down Bernie Sanders speech

bernie sanders seattle black lives matter
© Alex GarlandPresidential candidate Bernie Sanders walked away from the microphone as activists Mara Jacqueline Willaford and Marissa Johnson disrupted a rally at Westlake Center on Saturday where he was scheduled to speak about Social Security.
A Seattle speech by Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was pre-empted in a chaotic confrontation Saturday afternoon with a pair of Black Lives Matter protesters, who took the stage and refused to let him speak.

The Vermont senator, who has drawn huge crowds around the country, was to be the star attraction and final speaker for a rally at Westlake Park to celebrate the 80th birthday of Social Security and the success of other anti-poverty programs.

But his afternoon plans were scuttled by protesters determined to turn attention instead to Sunday's anniversary of the shooting by a white police officer of Michael Brown, an unarmed black man in Ferguson, Mo.

Later in the evening, Sanders received the reception he'd expected from the Seattle area as the progressive alternative to Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Comment: Given the connections between #BlackLivesMatter protest groups and billionaire George Soros, to say nothing of the fomented, managed crises in Ferguson, Baltimore and other cities, one can't help but wonder if Sanders was being attacked because of his commitments to fighting for the common good. He is certainly the only candidate thus far to have attracted large crowds to his speeches.

From Color revolution in Amerika? Ferguson activists were paid to protest with Soros money:
George Soros is most well-known for playing a major role in the funding and facilitating of the "Bulldozer Revolution" in Serbia that overthrew Slobodan Milosevic in 2000, Georgia's "Rose Revolution" of 2003, the 2006 push to move Turkey toward a more Islamist governing structure, and even the Occupy movement in the United States among a great many others - none of which brought anything other than greater misery, impoverishment, and police state mechanisms to bear on the general public. The Occupy movement, being the only exception, still brought nothing to its participants except the opportunity to burn off excess anger and energy along with a few cracked protester skulls. It was otherwise an incredible waste of time.

In addition, George Soros has been heavily involved in the social unrest and movement-wrecking activity that has taken place all across the United States in recent months. From Florida to Ferguson and then on to Baltimore, George Soros' Foundations have been involved in making sure that not only are American citizens unable to overcome racial divisions with mutual cooperation but that even the racially isolated participants are unable to accomplish anything of substance.

Hysteria: Judge allows man to carry pistol in daughter's school despite district ban

Michigan judge ruled that a gun-loving father can openly carry his pistol inside his daughter's elementary school despite objections from education officials.

Kenneth Herman filed a lawsuit in March against the Clio Area School District after he was barred from entering Edgerton Elementary multiple times to pick up his daughter because he was openly carrying the handgun, reported The Flint Journal.

The school district declared all of its properties as weapons-free zones and banned Herman from openly carrying his pistol.

State law prohibits concealed firearms on school property, but the statute permits gun owners with concealed carry permits — including Herman — to openly carry firearms in schools.

Hysteria: Emergency alert app for phones to be deployed in Arkansas schools

A program launched with a $1 million state contract will provide teachers, administrators, and staff in all Arkansas public schools with a "panic button" to quickly notify 911 of an emergency, whether it's a fire or an active shooter situation.

The buttons will be supplied by Rave Mobile Safety, thanks to a $950,000 contract the company signed with the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management earlier this summer, the Associated Press reported. The program launch was announced Tuesday, in accordance with a law passed earlier this year requiring the state to have such an emergency alert system in place by September 1.

The Rave Panic Button smartphone application has a five-button interface that allows faculty and staff to quickly inform 911, first responders, and school personnel of the type of emergency and the caller's exact location, the company said in a statement. First responders will automatically have access to the school's floor plans, the locations of emergency exits, and key evacuation procedures as well.

Florida police officer has been placed on administrative leave after video showed him berating a 28-year-old Army veteran for parking in a handicap spot.

The video, which veteran Isiah James recorded on his cell phone and uploaded to his Facebook page, shows Sgt. Garry Wilson questioning whether James had a right to park in the handicap spot. The video also shows Wilson slapping the cell phone out of James's hands as he records him.

"If I had done the same to him, I would have been cited, or at least I would be shot with a Taser," James told The Palm Beach Post.

Police officer who killed Christian Taylor fired and could face criminal charges

Police in Arlington, Texas, have fired the officer who shot and killed an unarmed football player in Texas and the cop now faces a criminal investigation, according to the department's chief.

Officer Brad Miller exercised "inappropriate judgment" and was also cited for "failing to communicate with his fellow officers" and "creating an environment of cascading circumstances," in the death of Christian Taylor, 19, according to Police Chief Will Johnson.

Miller now faces a criminal investigation by the Tarrant County District Attorney, police said.

Taylor, who played for Angelo State University, was accused of driving his SUV through the windows of a car dealership last Saturday. Police say he did not comply with orders to surrender and was shot.

Johnson earlier said that Miller fired his weapon four times after an altercation. The death has been ruled a homicide.

Oathkeepers militia patrolling Ferguson prepared to confront police to uphold Constitution

Armed to teeth with semi-automatic assault rifles and handguns, members of the Oath Keepers militia, formed of former and current law enforcement and military officers, have blended into the crowd of Ferguson protesters, saying "We're on your side."

At least four members of the 'Oath Keepers' arrived in Ferguson on early Tuesday and began patrolling the West Florissant Avenue, walking through the crowds of protesters gathered there for a 'day of civil disobedience' following the anniversary of the killing of 18-year-old African-American Michael Brown, shot dead by white Police Officer Darren Wilson.

The Oath Keepers are wearing military harness, bullet-proof vests and are armed with AR-15 assault rifles. Videos and pictures posted online show that the Oath Keepers spotted at the rally are all white. Allegedly, they have an agreement with police not to walk through the ranks of law enforcement, according to a Guardian reporter. They are also cited to "be on the protesters' side."
