Now scientists say even 'ethical' porn is bad and call for anyone who wants a healthy relationship to ditch it completely

Even watching soft porn is bad for your relationship, a study has found — in a knock for the habit
Hardcore, violent pornography is thought to have devastated the psyche of young American minds — warping their perception of relationships and sex.

But now experts are warning that even the more ethical 'softcore' variety is damaging, leading to poorer satisfaction with their other half.

Researchers at Brigham Young University quizzed 3,500 people in relationships who were about 38 years old on their porn use and happiness with their partner.

They were asked whether they watched hardcore porn — that included violence or rape — and softcore — including consensual sex.

Regardless of the category, those who watched porn were more likely to say they were not satisfied with their relationships.

The experts called on people to quit watching pornography entirely in order to help them maintain committed relationships.

Dr Brian Willoughby, an associate professor at the university who led the research, said: 'Couples should know that viewing pornography is a risk factor in their relationship.'

Education lost to Covid will 'scar world for years'

Covid disruption to childrens' education will hold back economic growth for years, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has suggested.

The Washington-based organisation said the damaging impact of lockdowns on schooling was partly to blame for the weakest outlook for global economic growth in decades.

"Scars from the pandemic, including to students' learning and [skill training], could weigh on economies for years to come," the IMF said in its latest update.

The IMF said the global economy was expected to grow by just 3pc per year in the immediate future.

That is well below the 3.9pc average seen over the period from 2000 to 2019, which included the global financial crisis and the underwhelming recovery from the credit crunch.

Youth gender transition pushed without evidence: Open letter to WSJ from international experts

21 leading experts on pediatric gender medicine from 8 countries have written a Letter to the Editor of @WSJopinion expressing disagreement with the @TheEndoSociety and its new president @StephenHammes over the treatment of youth gender dysphoria.

This is huge.

Although they have commented on the problems of the American "affirming" model in the past (e.g., Cass Report), this is the first time international experts have publicly weighed in on the American debate over "gender-affirming care."

Among the intl' experts is Dr. Riita Kaltiala, chief psychiatrist at Tampere University gender clinic, author of numerous peer-reviewed articles on trans medicine, and Finland's top authority on pediatric gender care.

The letter follows an illuminating exchange between @donoharm and @TheEndoSociety @StephenHammes in the pages of @WSJopinion.

The letter states that while Endocrine Society president and "gender-affirming care" practitioner Dr. Hammes' may think his own clinical experience and existing research support his position, his belief "is not supported by the best available evidence."

San Franciscans fed up with self-driving taxis taking over their city have found a cunning way to stop the vehicles in their tracks.

Activist group Safe Street Rebel is campaigning against the expansion of autonomous taxi services from two companies, Waymo and Cruise, and discovered a simple way to stump the cars.

In a video posted to TikTok last week, the group demonstrated how the cars can be disabled by placing traffic cones on their hoods, and explained why it was moving to disrupt Waymo and Cruise's operations.

Israeli illegal settler faces 'terrorism' charges over West Bank mosque vandalism

Israelis are rarely punished for crimes committed against Palestinians, particularly in the occupied West Bank.

Israeli prosecutors have filed charges related to "terrorism" against a Jewish settler accused of vandalising a mosque as part of anti-Palestinian rampages in the occupied West Bank last month, which drew a rare demand from the United States for accountability.

The spree of vandalism and arson by hundreds of settlers in several villages and towns followed the June 20 killing of four Israelis by Hamas gunmen, which in turn was a response to a deadly Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp that killed seven Palestinians and wounded more than 90 others.

At least one man was killed in the village of Turmus Ayya. Many of the Palestinians who lost property in the subsequent settler rampage were US dual nationals.

Comment: The illegal squatters in the West Bank engage in continuous provocations, knowing the IOF has their back. Unfortunately for Orif, it is on the front line of settler agression:

Best of the Web: Cheats do prosper — at the nation's expense

If higher education is about signaling academic attainment, then it helps no-one when the signal is scrambled.

During the second half of high school, I learnt the phrase "affirmative action" and what it meant. I was in the US with my father — he was in the country for work reasons — and met some of his American colleagues' children.

The system outlined to me did my head in. They recounted how personal essays — plus things like volunteering, sport, and church — played a large role in admission to one of the nation's better universities.

I could no more imagine writing an essay telling the University of Queensland why I wanted to study law than I could imagine milking a bull. The reason was simplicity itself: I got straight As and couldn't stand the sight of blood, so medicine was out.

At various points in multiple conversations, I attempted to describe the Australian system:

The media's bizarre Sound of Freedom freakout

Jim Caviezel Sound of Freedom
© Angel StudiosJim Caviezel in Sound of Freedom.
Jim Caviezel's madcap views are a reason to dismiss his film's success. Yet Tom Cruise's aren't?

A small studio-produced film managed to best a big-budget iconic action hero franchise from Disney on the July 4 box office. You would think that would make for the media an interesting story, both with the success of that small film and the failure of the iconic Indiana Jones franchise. But that is not the tale being told about Angel Studios' Sound of Freedom, an action-thriller dramatization of the life and career of Tim Ballard, the former DHS agent who founded the OUR (Operation Underground Railroad), an organization dedicated to fighting child trafficking globally.

Sound of Freedom has largely been a crowdsourced word-of-mouth success. Our national media has therefore decided to make it their latest target in their attempt to paint all things successful out of their purview as another right-wing moral panic and conspiracy, honing in on the film and the film's star Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ, The Thin Red Line). Suddenly, to the national media and outlets such as CNN and the Washington Post, the personal politics of a film's star matter and affect the topic of the film he happens to act in.
