'We would've done everything differently': Newsom reflects on Covid approach

California's Democratic governor says "we're all geniuses now" in hindsight on the pandemic.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said criticism of California's tough Covid-19 restrictions was valid and he would have taken an entirely different approach, given what he knows now about the pandemic.

Newsom in a taped interview set to air on NBC's Meet the Press Sunday, said:
"I think we would've done everything differently. I think all of us in terms of our collective wisdom, we've evolved. We didn't know what we didn't know. We're experts in hindsight. We're all geniuses now."
Later in the interview Newsom responded to criticism of his state's decisions by saying: "All of it's legitimate in terms of reflection."

Host Chuck Todd pressed the California Democrat on specifics, including whether Newsom and state officials were too accommodating to the film industry during periods of strict distancing requirements where Californians were prevented, for example, from gathering for family funerals.

Newsom responded:
"I think there's a lot of humility. And we didn't know what we didn't know. And it was hardly I; it was we, collectively."

Comment: The mentality of a soap-opera governor, Newsom's only reflection is in the mirror.

Threats, insults and Kremlin 'robots': How the BBC lies that Russian diplomacy died under Putin

Zel-hole-flag

As NATO's BBC hacks can argue neither the facts nor the circumstances, they are left to calling their betters' names...

Evil Russian baby kidnapper Vladimir Putin has, along with his killer squids, dispensed with diplomacy in his quest for world domination. Gone are the halcyon days when Russian diplomats would listen to the wise words of such Western sages as Victoria Nuland, Kamala Harris and Liz Truss (ex British PM, for those of you with the goldfish memory of a BBC journalist). Now we have a new Cold War where Putin puppet Lavrov and that awful Maria Zakharova woman do Putin's bidding.

Zakharova is a particularly bitter pill to swallow as "before her, diplomats behaved like diplomats, speaking in refined expressions.... but with Ms Zakharova's arrival, foreign ministry briefings became a spectacle. Ms Zakharova often yelled at reporters who asked her difficult questions and responded to criticism from other countries with insults".

So recently ran the main story of NATO's BBC website.

How does one define "Libertarian"?

libertarianism

The Economist
reported on August 14, 2023, that "Argentina could get its first libertarian president." They added that Javier Milei, the winner of Argentina's election primary was, imagine this, a "free-market radical." The problem, as I see it, is that few people actually know what a libertarian is, just like few people in America who call themselves "socialists" actually know what socialism is.

When I was young, I thought I was a liberal. Then I thought I was a conservative. I believed that if you were a liberal you were more likely to be a Democrat, and if you were conservative, you were more likely to be a Republican. I sometimes voted for Republicans, but on a few occasions, I voted for Democrats or third-party candidates. Sometimes I didn't vote at all. The world was divided (at least in my mind) into three political camps: those on the left, those on the right, and those in the middle.

As I grew older and my understanding of things in general (and history, politics, and economics in particular) became more complete, I struggled with this one-dimensional paradigm: it just didn't fit the facts and explained almost nothing.

Where, for example, did Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin fit in this one-dimensional left-right model? Most liberals would argue that Hitler was on the right and usually fall silent when Stalin is brought up. But to my way of thinking, there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between Hitler and Stalin. They were both brutal dictators. How could one be labeled "far right" while the other (at least in the eyes of conservatives) was "far left"? Could you travel so far to the left that you would meet with someone on the extreme right?

NYC slashes overtime pay for first responders to cover migrant costs: Roasted on social media for 'death by a thousand cuts'

Critics warn the move will be the 'last straw for many' in New York law enforcement

New York City's plan to help cover migrant costs by slashing overtime pay for uniformed agencies is facing fierce scrutiny as critics warn the decision could exacerbate police shortages and crime plaguing the Big Apple.

"This is death by a thousand cuts for NYPD and really for the city as well," former New York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin told "Fox & Friends" Tuesday. "If NYPD and law and order go, so goes New York City."

"People are going to just throw their hands up. They made it this far. That's amazing. But this is going to be the last straw for many."

Distressing new video shows addicts stumbling in a trance-like state along sidewalks strewn with burning trash heaps at the epicenter of Philadelphia's "tranq" drug epidemic.

The Kensington neighborhood in northeast Philadelphia, which has become notorious for its open-air drug market, is seen crowded with hordes of drug-addled people — many of them sprawled barefoot on the filthy ground, or slumped over in the video posted on TikTok by thebizzleeffect.

Some of the addicts appear to have no control over their bodies as they are seen hunched over and struggling to remain on their feet.

Report from grand jury exposes Fani Willis as an election-integrity denier

These challenges to the 2020 election weren't frivolous, and anyone claiming otherwise is a denier of election integrity.

The special purpose grand jury's recommendation that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis indict Sen. Lindsey Graham and former Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler may be garnering all the headlines. But three other names included in the grand jury's final report released on Friday merit the real condemnation of Willis' outrageous politicization of election contests: Cleta Mitchell, Alex Kaufmann, and Kurt Hilbert.

On Friday, the Fulton County Superior Court entered an order directing the public release of the final report compiled by the special purpose grand jury that was empaneled to purportedly investigate the "circumstances relating directly or indirectly to possible attempts to disrupt the lawful administration of the 2020 presidential elections in the State of Georgia." The public release of the 25-page unredacted report soon followed, revealing that the grand jury empaneled by Willis recommended the get-Trump prosecutor indict a total of 39 individuals — not merely the 19 charged in the sprawling RICO indictment handed down last month.

United Auto Workers to strike all big three automakers at the same time for first time in history

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union will go on strike against all of Detroit's big three automakers at the same time for the first time in the union's history, after General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis failed to reach a labor agreement with the union before their contracts expired Thursday night.

"Tonight for the first time in our history we will strike all three of the big three at once," UAW president Shawn Fain said on Thursday. They are prepared to strike at midnight, according to Fain.

They plan to strike at a General Motors assembly plant in Wentzville, Missouri; a Stellantis plant in Toledo, Ohio; and a Ford plant in Wayne, Michigan.

"If we need to go all out, we will," Fain declared. "Everything is on the table."

Roughly 150,000 American auto workers are represented by the UAW union. President Joe Biden's green agenda is a major concern for autoworkers whose jobs are being eliminated by Biden's rapid push for a transition to electric vehicles (EVs), which require less workers to produce than gas-powered vehicles. As Breitbart's Senior Editor-at-Large Rebecca Mansour reported, "While autoworkers are seeing their wages slashed due to the EV adoption, the Big Three executives have enjoyed a windfall thanks to the EV tax credits in Biden's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)."

Germany passes controversial green heating law estimated to cost economy €1 trillion

Bundestag
A law would require newly installed heating systems to be powered by at least 65 percent renewable energy

After six months of fierce debate, Germany's left-wing government has passed the country's controversial green heating law, the Building Energy Act (GEG), with high estimates indicating the law will cost Germany's economy over €1 trillion over the next 20 years.

While politicians belonging to Germany's three-way politician applauded the heating law coming into force on Friday last week, the political fallout has likely yet to be fully realized.

Many Germans — already struggling with inflation and a slowing economy — balked at the mandate to install new expensive heating systems, with the law being rejected by the majority of the populace, according to polling. The government is also being accused of a hasty legislative process and a lack of parliamentary hearings, calling into question the democratic basis for the law in its entirety.

China and India have 'low intellectual potential' - top Zelensky aide

The two nations' leaders are not smart enough for long-term planning, Mikhail Podoliak has claimed...

The people leading India and China lack the ability to predict the long-term consequences of their policies, a senior aide to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has claimed.

Mikhail Podoliak pointed to what he called "the problem of the modern world," singling out India and China, in an interview with Ukrainian media on Tuesday.
"The problem with these countries is that they do not analyze the consequences of their own moves. These countries, unfortunately, have low intellectual potential."
Podoliak suggested that even though India has a lunar exploration program, it "does not mean that this nation understands what the modern world precisely is."

The dismissive remarks were in the context of Beijing and New Delhi's refusal to support Kiev in its conflict with Moscow.

DHS watchdog finds officials released 177,000 migrants into US with missing or faulty addresses

migrants
© Fox NewsDestination unspecified
The Department of Homeland Security's internal watchdog has found that officials at the besieged southern border often failed to accurately obtain the addresses of tens of thousands of the migrants it released into the United States - finding that at least 177,000 migrants have been released after giving either an invalid or illegitimate address, or not giving one at all, to Border Patrol agents.

The DHS Office of Inspector General issued an audit finding that Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement cannot and does not always record the post-release addresses of migrants before they are released.

The addresses are taken to track and locate migrants once they are released into the U.S., to send them documentation to determine which field offices may check in with them. Addresses are also used to locate those who are subject to deportation orders. The watchdog reviewed 981,671 migrant records between March 2021 and August 2022, which marked the first year and a half of the migrant crisis which is still raging today. They found that more than 177,000 records were either missing, invalid, or not legitimate. Notably, more than 54,000 address records were left blank.
