Shaun King: Cops killed 3 unarmed 15-year-old-boys in under a month, media attention lacking

Jayson Negron, Jordan Edwards, Darius Smith
© FacebookFrom l.) Jayson Negron, Jordan Edwards and Darius Smith were all gunned down by police within a month.
Five months into the year and 2017 is already on pace to be one of the deadliest years measured for the number of people killed by American police and the crisis shows no signs of slowing down. At least 492 people have lost their lives at the hands of American police so far this year and as the number grows, I've noticed many extremely disturbing trends.

At least three different unarmed 15-year-old black boys have been shot and killed by law enforcement in this past month alone. As far back as I can research, we've never had a single month in this country's history where three different unarmed black boys this young have been shot and killed by police in three different incidents in the same month.

And, in each incident, what we have seen is the police make drastic changes to their initial narratives of why they were forced to shoot and kill these young boys.

When 15-year-old Jordan Edwards was recently shot and killed by a police officer in suburban Dallas, the initial narrative was that the car he was a passenger attempted to mow down the officer who repeatedly fired his rifle into the vehicle. Upon reviewing the body camera footage of the incident, the Balch Springs Police Chief then openly stated that the initial narrative was a complete fabrication and proceeded to fire the officer who was later charged with murder.

Since Jordan was killed by police, two more unarmed young black boys have been shot and killed by law enforcement in Connecticut and California. Neither of their cases have received the attention or coverage that they deserve.

Ignorant article of the week: 'Why It Matters That the Portland Killer Was a Far-Left Extremist'

extremism politics
The Political Spectrum is Looking More Like a Horseshoe

You may have heard that the Portland killer — who murdered two people and wounded a third after they tried to protect two Muslim women whom he was harassing — was a Trump supporter and a member of the alt-right.

Well...kinda, but not really.

You may also have heard that he was a Bernie Sanders supporter.

Again...kinda, but not really.

There's no doubt about his extremism, though his ideology's harder to pin down. I checked out his Facebook page so that you don't have to: white supremacy, check; Islamophobia, check; rampant misogyny, check. He's mad about gender fluidity, Muslims, removing Confederate monuments, fascism, anti-fascism, Nazis, libtards, feminists, taxation, the military-industrial complex, and Ronald Reagan. He calls women disgusting worthless cumbucket whores who kill their babies, and Timothy McVeigh a "TRUE PATRIOT." He identifies as Libertarian, and wants a Sanders/Stein ticket for...uh, 2017? In one post he says he likes Trump but did not vote for him, though there's also some anti-Trump sentiment scattered at intervals.

Trump pulls out of The #ParisAgreement on Climate

paris climate accord pic
President Trump just announced that the U.S. will "withdraw" out of the Paris Climate Accord. But "begin negotiations to re-enter".

Trump said:
"We will cease honoring all non-binding agreements", and "will stop contributing to the green climate fund".

"I can not in good conscience support a deal that harms the United States".

"The bottom line is that the Paris Accord is very unfair to the United States".

"This agreement is less about climate and more about other countries getting a financial advantage over the United States".

"The agreement is a massive redistribution of United States wealth to other countries."

"Fourteen days of carbon emissions alone would totally wipe out the U.S. contribution to reduction by 2030"
The Paris Accord is a BAD deal for Americans, and the President's action today is keeping his campaign promise to put American workers first. The Accord was negotiated poorly by the Obama Administration and signed out of desperation. It frontloads costs on the American people to the detriment of our economy and job growth while extracting meaningless commitments from the world's top global emitters, like China. The U.S. is already leading the world in energy production and doesn't need a bad deal that will harm American workers.

Bomb scare: Malaysian Airlines plane diverts back to Melbourne

A Malaysia Airlines flight en route from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur has been diverted back to its point of departure, after a "disruptive" passenger tried to enter the cockpit.

The plane turned back after its captain "was alerted by a cabin crew [member] of a passenger attempting to enter the cockpit," Malaysia Airlines said in a statement. According to some media reports citing passengers, the man in question was holding an "electronic frequency" device or claimed he had explosives.

The Flight MH128 then successfully landed at Melbourne Airport. Malaysia Airlines said the disruptive passenger was detained by airport security. The airport was placed on lockdown and all flights were suspended while the flight waited for security assistance, local media reported. The man who tried to enter the cockpit was reportedly subdued by other passengers, according to social media reports.

Comment: Despite the diversion, at least this one ended well.

UN human rights chief: 100,000 people displaced by fighting in Raqqa, Syria, since April, children worst hit

Some 100,000 people have been displaced due to heavy fighting near the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa, Syria, since April this year, a UN human rights chief says. Children are the worst hit, many subjected to torture, sexual violence and executions.

"We need to see a step-change in access to the increasingly dire situation in northeastern Syria...With some 100,000 people displaced due to fighting around Raqqa since April, access is needed now through every possible modality," Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien said in a statement to the UN Security Council on Syria on Tuesday.

According to O'Brien, the protection space is "shrinking, humanitarian conditions are worsening, and the level of despair is rising" across the entire country. In Idlib alone, there are over 900,000 displaced people, he said.

Comment: It's a near guarantee that with the US insisting they remain in Syria to "try and defeat ISIS" that this tragic state of affairs will only continue. And this is to say nothing of the continued "collateral damage" we're seeing in the form of hundreds of civilian deaths when the US-lead coalition "bombs ISIS". This situation is bound to get worse before it gets any better... a slow-motion nightmare.

The latest WikiLeaks 'Vault7' release details an alleged CIA project allowing the spy agency to give file servers the capability to infect machines which access them remotely.

'Pandemic' reveals the role of a persistent implant for Microsoft Windows file servers, accessed by remote machines to run programs, according to a statement from WikiLeaks.

The project acts as a 'Patient Zero' - a term used to describe the first identified carrier of a communicable disease during an outbreak.

'Pandemic' disguises itself on the infected source machine where the targeted files remain unchanged.

D.C. Police and the U.S. Secret Service acted on a tip about the man

A man accused of having guns and 90 rounds of ammunition in his car was arrested inside Trump International Hotel early Wednesday after D.C. police and the Secret Service received a tip about him.

Bryan Moles, 43, of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, was arrested after police found he had an assault rifle, a handgun and ammunition in his car in a parking garage at the hotel in downtown D.C., authorities said.

"The officers and our federal partners, and in particular the tipster coming forward, averted a potential disaster in our nation's capital," said D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham.

Moles was arrested inside the hotel shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, police said. He is charged with carrying a pistol without a license and possession of unregistered ammunition.

Poll shows Labour slashed Tory lead to just 3 points after Theresa May dodges TV election debate

A new poll shows the Tories' lead over Labour has been slashed to a record low, as party leaders launched blistering attacks on Prime Minister Theresa May for failing to show up at Wednesday night's live election debate.

With just a week to go before Brits cast their vote, Labour is rapidly closing the gap with the Conservatives, now standing just three points behind, a new YouGov poll commissioned by the Times shows.

The Tories now show 42 percent support, with Labour close behind at 39.

The poll points to a remarkable change in fortune for the Tories, who had enjoyed a 24-point lead over Labour when the snap general election was called in April.

Norfolk Four: US Navy sailors wrongfully convicted of rape and murder in 1997 could bankrupt city with lawsuit

norfolk four
The "Norfolk Four," four U.S. Navy sailors who were wrongfully convicted of the rape and murder of an 18-year-old woman in 1997, might sue the city that wronged them for $68 million.

Three of the four sailors were sentenced to one or more life sentences without the possibility of parole, and one was convicted of rape and sentenced to eight and a half years in prison. A federal judge in 2016 overturned their convictions based on a false confession, declaring the men innocent.

Not only is the case intriguing from a social standpoint, but also a financial one - if the group sues the city of Norfolk, Virginia, the city might have to increase taxes or slash its budget in order to cover the cost of the lawsuit.

The United Nations' Yemen envoy says more than seven million people are facing the risk of famine in the impoverished country, which has been under incessant Saudi attacks for more than two years.

Speaking at an open session of the UN Security Council on Tuesday, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed warned against the prolongation of the conflict in Yemen and said, "At the begging of the holy [fasting] month of Ramadan, we have to remember that seven million Yemenis are at risk of famine unless this conflict ends."
"The humanitarian crisis and the threat of famine [are] entirely man-made. If the conflict stops, Yemenis and their partners in the international community have the capacity and the will to rebuild the country," he said
