Around 50 people, including militants, were killed as a vehicle with ammunition exploded late on Sunday in the city of Idlib in northwestern Syria, local media reported.

According to the Lebanese Al Mayadeen broadcaster, the car belonged to the Nusra Front, a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia.

Earlier in the day, local media reported that the Nusra Front has gained complete control over the city as Ahrar al-Sham, listed as terrorist group and banned in Russia, withdrew from Idlib.

Comment: Infighting between the Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham jihadist groups has been intense in the last couple weeks. Meanwhile, the Russians are still in talks with militants in Idlib to establish the terms of the safe zone. A 19-year-old girl's body was allegedly chopped up and stuffed in a freezer after she was stabbed to death in a suspected honor killing at a £1.5 million home in South West London.

A 21-year-old woman, understood to be the cousin of the victim, was also injured in the attack and is in "serious but stable" condition in hospital.

She reportedly managed to escape with a knife wound to the neck. Hospital staff alerted police, who then went to the home to find the remains hidden in a freezer.

According to The Sun, police arrested three suspects, including the builder working on the house for the owners who live next door. They are reportedly questioning two men, 33 and 38, and a 29-year-old woman.

Comment: Two men have been charged in connection with the murder:
Immediately following the murder, the Metropolitan police detained three suspects - two men and a woman - in connection with the killing. While the 29-year-old female has been released, police charged both male suspects.

The 33-year-old man was "charged with the murder, rape and kidnap of a 19-year-old woman," police said. "He is further charged with the rape, attempted murder and kidnap of a second victim, a woman aged in her 20s."

The second suspect in the case was "charged with the kidnap of both the 19-year-old woman and the woman aged in her 20s."

Both men, who have not been named, are scheduled to appear at the Wimbledon Magistrates Court Monday.

Earlier, media reports indicated that the perpetrators were believed to be the uncle of the 19-year-old and the step-father of the other victim. Neighbors also told local news outlets that the crime could have been an honor killing.

That has not yet been officially confirmed.

Police earlier noted that both kidnapped females knew their kidnappers who subjected them to the violent attack.

Police have also dismissed reports that the teenage victim had been "chopped up," saying the woman was discovered "intact," the Daily Mail reported.

A formal identification of the body has not yet taken place, but the post-mortem examination Friday confirmed an incised wound to the neck as the cause of death.

Police have identified the deceased and have informed her next of kin. They have yet to release her name.

A Great Falls man was arrested last week, almost a week after a chained dog choked to death trying to get to shade in his yard, according to a Great Falls Police Department report.

Keon Torrance Gladden, 23, has been charged with ill treatment of animals, jail records show.

Great Falls police responded to a report of animal cruelty at a Walnut Street house on July 10 at about 5:15 p.m., the report says. The complainant told officers he believed the dog was being mistreated and told police he had checked on the dog many times before, the report says.

He said found the dog dead in the yard just before 5 p.m., bloating and covered in flies and maggots, the report says.

Potemkin village: Homeless booted from New York subways so de Blasio could have 'clean' ride

Mayor Bill de Blasio ventured into the city's decrepit subway system Sunday - but didn't have to face the foul-smelling and often crazy vagrants whom ordinary New Yorkers are forced to contend with every day.

That's because police were ordered to roust all the homeless people from two stations ahead of the mayor's four-stop press event as he rode from his Park Slope gym to his new re-election headquarters in downtown Brooklyn, law enforcement sources told The Post.

The rank and file had until 11 a.m. to prepare the Fourth Avenue/Ninth Street and Jay Street/MetroTech F train stations for the mayor's brief, underground publicity stunt, sources said.

One source characterized the directive - contained in an email from the NYPD's Transit Bureau - as instructing cops to "make sure nobody's hanging out" so that the stations "looked nice."

Why brilliant young girls avoid science and technology careers

evidence based
© Lee Jussim, NYC March for Science
Do girls avoid STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) fields because of ongoing, widespread discrimination? Or do girls with the skill sets that would give them entrance to STEM fields prefer fields that involve working with people over fields that involve working with things?

(A note on the correct use of language. Women are justifiably offended when people, especially a man, refers to them as "girls." I do not do that in this essay. The title of this essay is based on the fact that, as described below, it is skills and interests that develop as girls that lead girls who only later become adult women down different paths that contribute to adult women being less likely to work in STEM).1

The go-to explanation for the gender gap in STEM is bias. Old fashioned sexism, "implicit" (or unconscious) sexism, "obstacles," stereotypes, and the like.

There are many problems with such explanations, including but not restricted to:
  1. Much of the "evidence" cited in support of discrimination does not actually demonstrate discrimination. For example, some gender gaps in funding and in graduate admissions have been conclusively shown to result, not from discrimination, but from the fact that women disproportionately apply in more competitive fields.
  2. Some of the "evidence" is correlational (e.g., correlating beliefs with some gap), and is interpreted as causal, without any evidence of causality.
  3. Those making "gaps (do, probably do, likely do) reflect discrimination occurring right now" arguments rarely consider the vast literature identifying alternative explanations for such gaps. Instead, they tell "compelling narratives" based on historical evidence of discrimination, anecdotes, and cherry-picked studies that actually do demonstrate bias, and they argue (or imply by omission) that those, and only those, studies apply to understanding the gap in question (as if large bodies of literature contesting either the generalizability or even validity of those studies, or putting forward strong evidence for alternative explanations, simply do not exist).

Singer Lana Del Rey confirms she conducted 'witchcraft' against Donald Trump

Lana Del Rey has confirmed that she attempted to place a hex on US President Donald Trump.

The singer sparked speculation that she was attempting to use witchcraft to get rid of Trump earlier this year, when she asked her Twitter followers to gather mysterious 'ingredients'.

Now, she has confirmed it in a new interview with NME when quizzed about her love of the occult.

"Yeah, I did it. Why not? Look, I do a lot of s**t", she replied.

"I'm in line with Yoko [Ono]and John [Lennon] and the belief that there's a power to the vibration of a thought. Your thoughts are very powerful things and they become words, and words become actions, and actions lead to physical charges."

Menace to society: It's dangerous and wrong to tell children they're 'gender fluid'

cross-dressed kids
Once upon a time, 'binary' was a mathematical term. Now it is an insult on a par with 'racist', 'sexist' or 'homophobic', to be deployed as a weapon in our culture wars. The enemy on this particular battleground is anyone who maintains that there are men and there are women, and that the difference between them is fundamental.

This 'binary' distinction is accepted as a given by the vast majority of the human race. No matter. It is now being categorised as a form of bigotry. Utterly bizarre? Scoff at your peril. It's fast becoming an enforceable orthodoxy, with children and young people particularly in the frame for attitude reassignment.

Many didn't know whether to be amused or bemused when the feminist ideologue Germaine Greer was attacked by other progressives for claiming that transgender men who became women after medical treatment were still men. What started as a baffling skirmish on the wilder shores of victim culture has now turned into something more menacing.

The Commons Women and Equalities Select Committee recently produced a report saying transgender people are being failed. The issue is not just whether they really do change their sex. The crime being committed by society is to insist on any objective evidence for this at all. According to the committee, people should be able to change their gender at will merely by filling in a form. Instead of requiring evidence of sex-change treatment, Britain should adopt the 'self-declaration' model now used in Ireland, Malta, Argentina and Denmark. To paraphrase Descartes, 'I think I am a man/woman/of no sex, therefore I am.'

Women are burning their burqas and men shaving off their beards in a show of defiance against ISIS after escaping from the terrorist group's stronghold in Syria.

Civilians in Raqqa tore off their traditional dress and set it alight after being liberated from the city on Thursday.

And some of the men immediately began shaving off their facial hair in a move to 'spite' Islamic State.

Strict dress codes were implemented by ISIS, requiring women to wear long, black robes over their dresses and cover their faces almost entirely with black burqas.

One woman, who had exposed her face, refusing to wear the veil, said: "They killed my son because he wouldn't pray.

"They didn't allow us to take his body for a whole week."

Over 100 children just disappeared in UK, and sex trafficking fears have govt scrambling

Missing children
A child trafficking crisis is unfolding in the UK with over 100 children recently gone missing and experts warning that number is likely far greater. Charity and government officials are now frantically working to put the breaks on the problem as children are being bought and sold into slavery and sexual exploitation.

As the refugee crisis began to spike, as a direct result of Western foreign policy in the Middle East, the UK came up with the Dubs Amendment to allow children whose parents had been killed, a fast track route into the country to ensure their safety. However, the government grossly underestimated the difficult nature of placing so many children and the Dubs scheme was halted.

This inadequate planning led to hundreds of children being routed all over with government losing track and many of them falling into the hands of child traffickers.

At least eight mid- to high-level traffickers arrested and thirty children rescued in Haiti undercover operation

Some of the children that were 'sold' for the evening.
On a luxury yacht in the Caribbean, a group of men are waiting for their party guests to arrive - dozens of girls, some as young as 10 years old, who have been sold to the group for the evening by human traffickers.

But there won't be a party. The men onboard the yacht, posing as pedophiles from the US and Australia, are actually undercover agents who have been planning a dangerous rescue operation for more than a year.

In a major Sunday Night investigation, reporter Matt Doran joined the team from global child rescue agency Operation Underground Railroad (OUR) as the elaborate sting took place on the yacht and in a nearby luxury resort.
