A Critique of Yanis Varoufakis's 'Doomed Proposals' for the Greek Crisis

Yanis Varoufakis
Yanis Varoufakis
In his latest book, Adults in the Room (Guardian review), Yanis Varoufakis gives us his version of the events that led to the Tsipras government's shameful capitulation in July 2015. It essentially analyses the period 2009-2015, though it makes incursions into earlier periods.

With this voluminous work (550 pages), Yanis Varoufakis shows that he is a gifted narrator. At times he succeeds in moving the reader. His direct and vivid style makes it easy to follow events.

This initial article will cover the first four chapters of a book that comprises 17 in all. It deals with the proposals Varoufakis made before he became a member of the government in January 2015.

Triggering praise, criticism and some confusion, Gov. Henry McMaster issued an executive order Friday cutting off all public funding to health care providers affiliated with abortion clinics in South Carolina.

In the order, he also directed the South Carolina Medicaid agency to seek permission from the federal government to exclude abortion clinics from the state's Medicaid provider network.

"There are a variety of agencies, clinics, and medical entities in South Carolina that receive taxpayer funding to offer important women's health and family planning services without performing abortions," McMaster said in a press release about the order.

Comment: Additional perspective from Nick Cannon: Planned Parenthood founded to "exterminate the Negro race":
His knowledge of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, demonstrates Cannon's knowlege and courage to address such controversial issues. Considered a racist by many, Sanger reportedly once wrote, "We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."

Sanger was also an advocate for Eugenics, controlling the reproductive systems of all Americans for the purification of the human race. She also advocated for reproduction by permit only, family sizes limited to one child, and forced sterilizations of those with inferior genes.

Police have arrested at least eight people and reportedly deployed tear gas as demonstrators from the Left and Right of the political spectrum held rallies in Berkeley, California.

White smoke was seen on the scene, believed by local media and some eyewitnesses to be tear gas, as the two sides clashed in the university city.

Berkeley, which lies eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, had been set to host a "No To Marxism in America" rally of right-wing activists at the Martin Luther King Civic Center Park Sunday.

A counter demonstration, billed as a "Rally Against Hate", was then established to protest against the right-wing event.

YouTube censorship: Conservative singers Joy Villa and Kaya Jones targeted

youtube middle finger
Google, long known to be manipulating search results to subtly target conservatives and their views, has now allowed its subsidiary, YouTube, to go on a censorship Jihad against conservative artists and broadcasters. In the last week, Conservative singers Joy Villa and Kaya Jones have seen their YouTube accounts come under fire. This should frighten all freedom loving people, not just those on the Right. Here's what we know as of now.

A group of students and parents in Alabama is calling for the removal of a rainbow pride flag from a high school classroom - arguing that it can be compared to displaying a Confederate flag.

"We strongly feel that it creates a hostile and provocative learning environment for students not comfortable to openly supporting the LGBTQ+ community in a public school where students come from diverse political and religious backgrounds," a Change.org petition reads about the flag in Auburn.

Comment: Sounds like a smart move by Germany.

Collapsing under corruption and hubris: Navy errors killed more troops than Afghanistan so far in 2017

A heartsick surface Navy is vowing to find answers after a series of incidents that could make the peacetime Western Pacific deadlier for U.S. troops this year than Afghanistan.

The Navy began, as it often does, with accountability: On Wednesday, it fired the three-star admiral whose command in the Western Pacific suffered at least four big accidents this year, two of which may have killed a combined 17 sailors.

An officer aboard the destroyer USS Stethem also was lost overboard near the Philippines on Aug. 1.

Comment: It appears that the military industrial complex is so corrupt that despite the massive spending that has been bankrupting America for decades, it's equipment and policies are so abysmal that they are now more dangerous to military personal than being deployed in combat. See also:
