Covid compliance hits rock bottom in England

New data released by the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that three in 10 people in England are failing to self-isolate if they develop Covid-like symptoms amid a drop in compliance with coronavirus guidance.

The survey, conducted last month, found that 29% of respondents who'd had Covid symptoms failed to follow the rules requiring them to stay at home after they'd fallen ill. Similarly, a quarter of people violated self-isolation rules between falling ill and receiving their final test result.

Comment: It is because some of the people figured out that the real danger is not the virus, but the totalitarian government that is stripping their basic human rights and destroying the economy.

Ukrainians who refuse Covid-19 vaccines are laying the groundwork for a Russian incursion into the country, an advisor to the commander in chief of the country's armed forces has claimed, amid rumors Moscow is planning to strike.

Taking to Facebook on Wednesday as opponents of mandatory Covid inoculation rallied near the Ukrainian parliamentary building in Kiev, Dmitry Yarosh, an advisor to Lieutenant-General Valeriy Zaluzhny, said that the protests could be a false flag operation.

"Friends, I don't rule out that among these people paid and sent to the capital there are anti-vaxxers - an overwhelming minority - but the main purpose of this action is to prepare the ground for a large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops," he said.

Dozens of people including a young girl have died trying to cross the Channel to the UK in an inflatable dinghy, officials say, in what is the deadliest incident since the current crisis began.

Two survivors are in intensive care while police have arrested four people suspected of being linked to the drownings. The International Organisation for Migration said it was the biggest single loss of life in the Channel since it began collecting data in 2014.

Boris Johnson, who held a Cobra meeting on Wednesday to discuss the incident, said he was "appalled" by the tragedy. He then suggested the French government had not always approached the problem of the crossings "in a way we think the situation deserves". People trafficking gangs were "literally getting away with murder", he said. However, later France's President Emmanuel Macron said Britain needed to stop politicising the issue for domestic gain.

The French interior minister, Gérald Darmanin, said that the dead included five women and a girl. He told an impromptu news conference in Calais that the boat that sank had been "very frail", and compared it to "a pool you blow up in your garden".

He said 34 people were believed to have been on before it sank.

Russian prison chief fired after torture allegations

Russian President Vladimir Putin has fired the head of the country's Federal Penitentiary Service after two scandal-filled months, with accusations of inmate torture and shocking leaked videos from CCTV cameras.

Alexander Kalashnikov was removed after two years in the position. Before 2019, he was a senior official in the Federal Security Service (FSB) and served as chief of the body's directorate in Krasnoyarsk Region. Earlier this year, Kalashnikov was sanctioned by the EU, US, and Canada for his role in the imprisonment of opposition figure Alexey Navalny.

Kalashnikov's firing comes after an eventful autumn for the prison service. In October, human rights group Gulagu.net leaked three sickening videos showing the torture of inmates at a prison in Saratov, a city around 800km southeast of Moscow. The footage showed inmates being sexually abused, including anal rape and forced penetration with objects.

Over a month later, 18 workers at the prison were fired, and the Investigative Committee opened multiple criminal cases in connection to the reports of physical and sexual abuse.

Russian citizens who buy and sell counterfeit coronavirus vaccine certificates should be summarily executed, a Russian regional lawmaker has argued, offering to pull the trigger as part of the firing squad himself.

Speaking during a meeting on Tuesday, Vladimir Sidorov, a deputy from the governing United Russia party serving on the regional Duma in Ryazan, proposed the harsh punishment for people who buy the documents in the city, southeast of Moscow. "It is necessary to shoot them," he raged.

According to the lawmaker, he "would take part in the shootings" eagerly. "Be sure to do it! You and I have no other choice," Sidorov urged his fellow representatives.

The speech quickly went viral online, drawing criticism from Russian social media users. However, the local politician has since sought to climb down from the remarks, saying he was overly emotional after losing his wife to Covid-19. However, he insisted that anyone purchasing fake proof of vaccination deserves to face "the toughest penalties." He added that "no one likes restrictions, but immunization is the key for surviving the pandemic."

Allegations that female Israeli prison guards were left vulnerable to sexual assaults by suspected terrorists in an attempt to gain leverage and coax confessions have been reignited by a prison commander.

Speaking on Wednesday to an Israeli government panel, Gilboa Prison commander Freddy Ben Shitrit appeared to confirm reports from 2018 that women serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were put at risk of sexual assault in an effort to extract confessions from Palestinian terrorism suspects.

The commander said:
"Prison bosses had pimped soldiers" and "handed over female soldiers to terrorists for sexual purposes. The pimping incident was a massive incident."
The alleged 'pimping' of female soldiers for the purpose of obtaining information from prisoners happened before Ben Shitrit served as warden in the prison. The commander was speaking to a government committee on the failures that led to a jailbreak by six Palestinian prisoners from Gilboa prison earlier this year.

The bombshell allegations, which also include claims of Goguen ordering his security chief to kill detractors, are contained in a lengthy civil complaint recently filed in United States District Court for the District of Montana.

According to the court papers, Goguen, 57, employs hundreds of residents in companies he controls, and owns a series of luxury "safe houses" where he takes dozens of young women for sex. He has a spreadsheet documenting his sexual encounters with 5,000 women, and even outfitted a local bar he owns with a basement "boom boom" room, which features a stripper pole. The underground enclave is allegedly used "to maintain women for the purpose of committing illicit sexual activity."

Sporadic clashes broke out at massive Saturday demonstrations in major European cities, as thousands of people took to the streets of Vienna, Paris and Rome to express their discontent with Covid-19 restrictions.

The Austrian capital Vienna on Saturday saw the largest protest turnout since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 38,000 people took to the city streets to join a dozen demonstrations protesting government measures.

Mobs of thieves ransacked at least two dozen San Francisco area businesses over the weekend, as smash and grab incidents rage in the Bay Area.

"At least two dozen businesses were impacted," Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong told CBS SF. "Roving caravans of vehicles, targeting cannabis operations, retail shops, pharmacies, throughout the city of Oakland."

The mobs of thieves hit a handful of pharmacies and marijuana dispensaries in Oakland, including the Wellspring pharmacy that released surveillance video of the scene to the media. Police added that the mobs in Oakland fired 175 shots during the incidents, forcing officers to pull back to safe locations, The Mercury News reported.

A New York judge voided the convictions of two black men for the 1965 assassination of activist Malcolm X, after a re-investigation inspired by a Netflix documentary found the FBI had withheld evidence of their innocence.

State Supreme Court Justice Ellen Biben threw out the convictions of Muhammad A. Aziz (aka Norman 3X Butler) and Khalil Islam (aka Thomas 15X Johnson), who were charged with assassinating Malcolm X at Manhattan's Audubon Ballroom and sentenced to life in prison in 1966.
