Germany preparing for war with Russia - Medvedev

Medvedev

A recently leaked recording of senior German officers discussing a potential attack on the Crimean Bridge leaves no doubt that Berlin is preparing for a military conflict with Moscow, the former Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, warned on his Telegram channel on Sunday.

Medvedev, who is currently deputy head of the Russian Security Council, was commenting on audio that surfaced earlier this week. The story was broken on Friday by RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan, who said she had received the recording from Russian security officials.

The 38-minute-long recording, reportedly from February 19, contained a conversation between four officers of the German Air Force, including its commander, Lt. Gen. Ingo Gerhartz. They were discussing operational and targeting details of Taurus long-range missiles which Berlin was considering supplying to Kiev. The officers particularly explored the option of the missiles being used against the Crimean Bridge and spoke about maintaining plausible deniability in the event of such an attack.

The leak sparked a major scandal in Germany, with many senior MPs calling for the nation's counterintelligence efforts to be enhanced. The German Defense Ministry confirmed the authenticity of the recording but neither the military nor Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government have commented on the plans discussed by the senior officers.

On Sunday, Medvedev assumed that Berlin would now try to claim it had known nothing of the military discussions taking place. He also stated that the German authorities could call the leaked conversation a purely hypothetical one and say that the military was "obsessed with playing mock battles."

NATO state 'betting' on Trump victory - PM

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that the former US president offers "the only chance" for a peace deal in Ukraine...

Hungary is "betting on the return of Donald Trump" to halt the Ukraine conflict with a peace deal, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Monday. Orban, a long-time ally of Trump, is set to meet with the former US president in Florida this week.

Speaking at an economic forum in Budapest, Orban explained his interest in a swift resolution to the two-year conflict. Hungary, which is a member of NATO and borders Ukraine, has long sought to keep a neutral country in between itself and Russia.
"As time goes by, the Russians are gaining more and more territory and are getting closer to the Hungarian border, which is completely against our interests.

"The only reasonable behavior on the part of the Hungarian government is to bet on the return of Donald Trump. The only chance of the world for a relatively fast peace deal is political change in the United States, and this is linked to who is the president."

Comment: Orban had more to impart:
The West will not defeat Russia in the proxy war it has unleashed in Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Monday. Speaking to the country's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Orban stressed Kiev's dependence on its Western backers in the fight against Russia.

Ukraine's war supplies come from abroad and without them it could not present any challenge to Russia, Orban pointed out. It is "obvious" that the "West will not win," he claimed, "this is a proxy war," and "everyone knows it."

The prime minister concluded that "There is only one solution: peace negotiations must begin sooner or later," expressing hope that a peace deal will be reached "sooner or later" with the participation of the US.

Orban has repeatedly said that any hopes of ending the Ukraine-Russia conflict are in the hands of the US, Kiev's main backer, while claiming that Western countries have missed the opportunity to strike a deal on Ukraine.
"The Europeans have failed to localize the conflict [in Ukraine], which, on the contrary, only expanded, and missed the right moment to quickly arrange a peace agreement, when even the Russians were interested in it."
Since the beginning of the conflict, Budapest has called for a ceasefire and peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev, and has opposed sanctions on Russian energy. Hungary has stood out among NATO members by consistently criticizing Western policies on Ukraine.

Regarding Russian-Hungarian economic cooperation, Orban said the country has no plans to abandon the partnership, adding that Budapest is seeking to deepen mutual ties in areas not affected by Western sanctions.

Russia has no expansionist ambitions - Medvedev

Medvedev
© Ramil Sitdikov/RIA NovostiDeputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev
Moscow's actions are a response to the West's encroachment, the former president has said...

Russia is not seeking to expand its borders through occupation, former President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday. He insisted that the current Ukraine conflict is a response to provocations from the West.

Presenting a lecture at the 'Knowledge First' event as part of the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Medvedev, who currently serves as deputy head of Russia's Security Council, discussed the concepts of geographical and "strategic" borders.

While the first type are internationally recognized lines that delineate states and determine the borders of their sovereignty, "strategic borders" define how strong and sovereign a state is, and where it extends its political power, Medvedev said.

Comment: Medvedev contends 'Ukraine is Russia'. Here's why:
Ukraine lies within the sphere of Russian strategic interests and has no future in any other capacity.

Russian people consider Ukraine to be part of the larger Russian civilization. Moscow considers it to be the country's "soft underbelly," from which no threat to Russia should be allowed to be projected.

Using his preferred term for what is usually known as 'sphere of influence' in geopolitics, Medvedev said:
"The territories on both banks of the Dnieper River are an inalienable part of Russian strategic historic borders. All attempts to change them by force, to cut its living body, are doomed."
He noted the title of a book by Leonid Kuchma, the second president of Ukraine following its independence from the USSR, which declared: 'Ukraine is not Russia'.
"This concept must vanish forever. Ukraine is without a doubt Russia. The great treasure that we will not surrender to anyone for anything is the people. The Ukrainians have become confused by Western propaganda, but at their core they have the same values and way of life as the Russians, and need to be rescued."
Easier to say than do.

Victoria Nuland quits

The Deputy Secretary will leave the US State Department in several weeks, Antony Blinken has announced.

US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland is poised to leave her post in the coming weeks, Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced. The senior official, widely regarded as a foreign policy hawk, played a key role in the Western-backed coup in Ukraine in 2014.

In December 2013, she visited Kiev with the late Senator John McCain to hand out pastries to armed protesters in the city's central square. Days before the February coup, as orchestrated mass murder gripped the city, she was recorded discussing how to "midwife this thing" with then-US ambassador to Kiev, Geoffrey Pyatt, reportedly exclaiming "F**k the EU" when it came to a choice of new leader in the war-torn country.

Nuland resigned from the State Department during the Trump administration, taking the helm of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) think-tank before joining the Albright Stonebridge Group and the board of the neo-liberal National Endowment for Democracy (NED). She rejoined the government after President Joe Biden's inauguration in 2021.

She has worked on arming Ukraine and assembling a Western coalition that would supply Kiev with weapons and ammunition for the conflict with Russia. Last month, she pleaded to Congress to approve $61 billion in funding to Ukraine, arguing that most of it would be "going right back into the US economy," to create jobs in the weapons industry.

Her most recent trip to Kiev involved intervening with President Vladimir Zelensky on behalf of General Valery Zaluzhny, though to no avail. Zaluzhny was subsequently fired.

Orbán to Hungary's ambassadors: A new world order is emerging

Orban
© Attila Kisbenedek/AFPHungarian PM Viktor Orban
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán addressed the annual meeting of Hungarian ambassadors on Tuesday, and said that the new, emerging world order required constant assessment and analysis.

The prime minister said Western hegemony had ended. "They want to divide world economy into geopolitical blocs, and put enormous pressure on sovereigntist countries such as Hungary".

Orbán said Hungary had an interest in remaining a member of the European Union and NATO "but not in the creation of blocs". "That is why we will strengthen our alliance with other sovereigntist countries."

"Rather than explaining ourselves for our political differences, Hungary's ambassadors are tasked with representing Hungary's success with undisputable economic facts," Orbán said.

Comment: Indeed, and it seems that, as the West collapses, it intends to take others down with it: Update: There is more from this source:
5 Mar, 2024 15:23 Western hegemony is over - EU state's leader
Orban said that the general consensus now is that Western hegemony is over, according to the news agency MTI. He urged Hungarian diplomats to constantly monitor and analyze evolving trends as a new world order takes shape.

Orban said that his country, while being part of the European Union and NATO, would continue to pursue sovereign policies. He explained that rigid geopolitical groupings leave too "little room for maneuver" for nations such as Hungary.

Medvedev: 'Ukraine is definitely Russia', rules out peace talks with Zelensky, presents controversial map of Kiev

The former Russian president says parts of Ukraine should 'return home' as he rules out peace talks with Zelensky.
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, says Ukraine is part of Russia as he rules out peace talks with the current Ukrainian leadership.

In a bellicose speech on Monday at a youth festival in the southern city of Sochi, Medvedev said Russia would prosecute what it calls its "special military operation" until the other side capitulated.

The former president and prime minister said what he called historical parts of Russia should "return home".

Comment: Indeed, Medvedev is not only correct about ties, but the West's intention to attack Russia, as well as its direct participation in the war, is now irrefutable:

Israel's psych-war is relentless, vicious and deliberate

One part of Israel's military operation in Gaza that's been largely ignored by the mainstream media is the extremely sophisticated psychological war that's being waged on the Palestinian people. If we look carefully at some of the more unusual elements in Israel's strategy, we see the outline of plan that is clearly aimed at inflicting maximum psychological damage on its victims.

Take, for example, Israel's repeated demand that civilians leave a particular city at a designated time. Every time this demand has been made it was followed shortly after by airstrikes on the fleeing civilians. We could easily dismiss this unfortunate action as an operational snafu attributable to human error, but that does not appear to be the case. After all, these airstrikes have not happened just once or twice, but over and over again. This suggests that it is official policy.

France proposed sending troops to Ukraine, but NATO refused - Politico

The country's army chief of staff reportedly approached his coalition peers with the idea weeks ago

France suggested deploying NATO troops to Ukraine in order to assist Kiev's forces with crucial tasks, the former US envoy to the bloc, Ivo Daalder, wrote in an article for Politico news outlet published on Monday.

According to Daalder, the proposal came several weeks ago from the chief of staff of the French Army, General Thierry Burkhard, who wrote to half of his NATO colleagues to ask them to "explore the possibility" of deploying "a coalition of the willing" to Ukraine's front lines. The troops, Burkhard reportedly said, could man defensive systems on the ground, train troops, launch cyber operations, and provide help in demining.

Burkhard's proposal was swiftly rejected by "every ally," Daalder wrote, in line with NATO's longstanding policy of 'no troops on the ground in Ukraine'.

The letter was reportedly sent well before French President Emmanuel Macron sparked controversy last week when he told journalists that the idea of deploying NATO troop to Ukraine should not be ruled out.

On the other hand, however, while Macron might have looked isolated for now, his rash comments point to the troubling dynamic of escalation by NATO since the CIA-backed coup in Kiev in 2014.

NATO has been vigorously arming and training the NeoNazi regime that was installed in Kiev since 2014. Even Jens Stoltenberg and other NATO officials have openly admitted that background involvement.

In admitting the NATO presence in Ukraine over the past decade that also corroborates Russia's reasoning of why it was compelled to launch its military intervention two years ago. Of course, the Western powers and their servile media never go as far as conceding that. They prefer to adopt a position of double-think and hypocrisy, claiming that Russia's military action was "unprovoked aggression".

Macron may have been shot down for now and made to look like a dangling clown. But as so often in the past, controversial NATO ideas are put forward and seemingly rejected out of hand, only to be adopted later. As Macron pointed out, Germany and other NATO nations were only two years ago reluctant to send military equipment beyond helmets and sleeping bags. Now these same entities have sent battlefield tanks and anti-aircraft missiles and are debating sending long-range weapons to strike deep into Russian territory
Korybko: Transnistria could become the tripwire for a wider war

From a Russian website about military news, there was a opinion piece which translated has the title:
Bringing NATO troops to Ukraine: the alliance places consolidated units on the border with Belarus. Opinion
In late February, early March 2024, there were statements by some NATO politicians about the possibility of sending alliance forces to Ukraine. So, at a press conference, French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out such an option, and Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair said that the department is ready to send its units to Ukraine to train the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Let's try to understand how likely the transfer of NATO forces to Ukraine is and for what purpose the alliance is cautiously "probing" the ground, the reaction of the world community and mainly Russia to such actions. We will also give examples and the number of possible NATO units that can participate in such an operation.

Back on February 22, 2024, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Khrenin, in an interview with Russia 24, noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine concentrated 112-114 thousand people on the border with Belarus, of which only 17 thousand are involved in border protection. The statement of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Khrenin will be a fundamental vector in our further analysis. Even now, Western media are drawing maps of the deployment of NATO forces in Ukraine, near the border with Belarus.

Kiev's concerns. Most likely, Zelensky is seriously afraid of another blitzkrieg of the Russian army on Kiev, from Belarus, and therefore concentrated along the border with Belarus, a group with a total of about 30 military brigades. Of course, this number includes not only infantry and territorial defense, but also tankers, gunners, engineering units and short-range SAM crews.
About the actual possibilities for deploying NATO troops to Ukraine, the idea would be that NATO troops at the border with Belarus would deter Russia, while freeing up close to 100,000 Ukrainian troops that could then move to the active frontlines. The article has:
Border with Belarus. It should be noted that there are not so many roads, they can be "counted on your fingers", across the border with Belarus to Ukraine, despite the length of the border line of 1.3 thousand km. Most of the border between Ukraine and Belarus is dense forests and swampy terrain, where the passage of armored vehicles is impossible. In other words, a much smaller group would have been enough for Kiev, if not for its serious concerns.

Participating countries. Despite the assumptions of the Western media about sending NATO troops to Ukraine from 12 countries — it is more likely that only French, Polish and German military personnel can be involved in such an operation, and the rest of the countries will transfer additional parties of military advisers to Zelensky, including Canada.

The thing is that among the NATO countries (excluding the United States), only France, Germany and Poland have a sufficient number of military personnel, armored vehicles, artillery and air defense systems, and the armies of the other countries participating in the alliance are rather "funny regiments", however, they have modern weapons, as well as army and front-line aviation. So, for example, the Dutch army has long lost its independence and exists as a combat unit, only as part of the Bundeswehr.

Which NATO units will be deployed in Ukraine? The first applicant for the possibility of transfer is the Bundeswehr Rapid Reaction Division, with a total of about 5 thousand people, which includes the 11th Airmobile Brigade of the Netherlands with up to 2.5 thousand troops.

Poland may introduce to Ukraine the 6th airborne rapid response Brigade named after General Sosabovsky with up to 2.5 thousand people, as well as the special Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian LITPOLUKR brigade.

With a higher degree of probability, Paris will send a couple of regiments of the French Foreign Legion to Ukraine, which, unlike popular opinion, is part of the French Ground Forces.

Estimated number of employees. Now it is difficult to judge what the number of NATO troops in Ukraine will be. It will probably reach 30 thousand people. Such a large number can occupy roadblocks and some fortified areas made for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on sections of key roads.
France and Macron proposed, but just because NATO refused does not mean they are not working on something.

Pro-Kiev journalist shares video of Ukrainians 'executing' Russian soldiers

Ukrainians execute Russian soldiers
© CopyrightScreenshot from Julian Roepcke X account.
German reporter Julian Roepcke on Monday shared a video he claimed showed Ukrainian soldiers executing wounded Russians, only to face a torrent of abuse from Ukrainians online.

Roepcke, a journalist for the German tabloid Bild, has for years been critical of Russia and features a Ukrainian flag in his X (formerly Twitter) handle. The 21-second video he shared, allegedly from an official source, showed two Ukrainian soldiers shooting prone Russian casualties at point-blank range.

"Official Ukrainian army / 47th Mechanized Brigade video, showing the execution of two more injured Russian soldiers with headshots," Roepcke wrote. "Is it only me or is this a normalization of entirely unacceptable behavior by a modern army?!"

He tried to temper his criticism of the Ukrainians by immediately posting another video, purporting to show how Russians "execute nine defenseless Ukrainian soldiers lying on the ground after they had already surrendered" near Artyomovsk, known in Ukraine as Bakhmut.

Global South youth flocks to 'isolated' Russia

Opening Ceremony of the 2024 World Youth Festival
© Sputnik / Pavel BednyakovThe photo shows the Flag Parade ceremony during the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 World Youth Festival at the Sirius federal territory, Krasnodar region, Russia.
By any metric, the World Youth Festival running in the Sirius federal territory (Sochi, southern Russia) on March 1-7 is a stunning achievement: a sort of Special Cultural Operation (SCO) encompassing the young Global South.

It starts with the incomparable setting - the 2014 Olympics park of science and art, nested between snowy mountains and the Black Sea - all the way to the stars of the show: over 20,000 young leaders from over 180 nations, Russians and mostly Asians, Africans and Latin Americans, as well as assorted dissidents from the sanctions-obsessed Western "garden".

Among them are scores of educators, PhDs, public sector or culture activists, charity volunteers, athletes, young entrepreneurs, scientists, citizen journalists, as well as teenagers from 14 to 17, for the first time the focus of a special program, "Together into the Future". These are the generations that will be building our common future.
President Putin is once again quite sharp: he emphasized how a clear distinction applies between citizens of the world - including the Global North - and the intolerant, extremely aggressive Western plutocracy. Russia, a multinational, multicultural civilization-state, by principle welcomes all citizens of the world.
The World Youth Festival 2024, taking place seven years after the last one, renews a tradition that harks back to the 1957 World Festival of Youth and Students when the USSR welcomed everyone on both sides of the Iron Curtain during the Cold War.

The idea of an open platform for young, committed, very organized people attracted by Russian conservative/family values permeates the whole festival - in sharp contrast to the artificial, cancel culture-obsessed "open society" P.R. incessantly sold by the usual hegemonic foundations.

Each day at the festival is dedicated to a main theme. For instance, March 2 was on "responsibility for the fate of the world"; March 3 was for "unity and cooperation among nations"; March 4 was for "a world of opportunities for everyone".

No less than 300,000 youngsters from around the world applied to come to the festival. So obviously to select a little over 20,000 was quite a feat. After the festival, 2,000 foreign participants will travel to 30 Russian cities for cultural exchange. Exactly what comrade Xi Jinping defines as "people to people's exchanges".

It's no wonder the festival organizers, Rosmolodezh, the Russian federal agency for youth affairs, call it "the largest youth event in the world". Director Ksenia Razuvaeva noted, "we are destroying the myth that Russia is isolated."
