Kissinger: Trump has 'absolutely no baggage'

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who has helped direct American foreign policy for several decades, said he thinks President-elect Trump is the "most unique" he has ever seen in terms of his lack of "baggage" holding him down.

"He has absolutely no baggage," Kissinger told CNN on Sunday. "He has no obligation to any particular group because he has become president on the basis of his own strategy."

Though he insisted he was "not here as a spokesman of the president-elect," Sunday's words for Trump were more positive than what Kissinger had to say earlier this year.

In May, Trump claimed at a rally in Fresno, California, that "one of the biggest diplomats in the country who is a friend of mine" had met with the businessman recently, a clear reference to Kissinger.

Trump said Kissinger had confessed that though he initially thought Trump's foreign policy demands were "too tough," he came around when "all of these countries [started] calling [Kissinger, asking] 'What do we do, what do we do, how can we make him happy?"

The world has changed: Putin's 2015 UN speech on 'multipolar world' coming to fruition

When Vladimir Putin took the podium to address the delegates in attendance at the 70th UN General Assembly in New York on September 28, 2015 the sense that we were about to witness a seminal moment in history was inescapable.

And so it proved.

The speech the Russian leader proceeded to deliver to the delegates in attendance, along with an expectant world via the international media, was tantamount to announcing the birth of a multipolar world, one in which Washington would no longer enjoy the uncontested primacy and hegemony it had since the demise of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Mainstream Media Preparing For War On Ivanka Trump

Ivanka Trump
As pressure on the President-elect mounts, early signs of a concerted mainstream media attack on Ivanka Trump are becoming clear as day.

When mainstream media sunk their fangs into Ivanka Trump for being present at a meeting with her father and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, I know it was a sign of bad things to come. Not content just to slander the President-elect, the pernicious mainstream media are now setting their sights on Trump's family.

Contrary to her portrayal in the mainstream media, Ivanka is an intelligent woman who has achieved success both within and outside of her father's businesses. Throughout the campaign, she conducted herself in a dignified and honourable manner. She neither neglected her apolitical commercial interests nor did she fail to offer kind words about her father's campaign.

The New York Times published an article saying that Ivanka's presence at the meeting between her father and Mr. Abe 'raised questions', the remainder of the article was vague at best when it came to defining what those questions were.

Leaders have advisors, confidants and assistants who operate in a variety of capacities from the incredibly formal to the deeply relaxed. I do not specifically know what capacity, if any, Ivanka Trump was operating in during the meeting. She may have just been an observer. There is nothing wrong with any of this and deep down the scoundrels at the New York Times know this.

Mikheil Saakashvili's appointment as a governor of the Ukrainian region of Odessa was an insult to the Ukrainian people due to his lack of qualification, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"This is just a spit in the face, an insult to the residents of Odessa and to the Ukrainian people... He cannot fulfill the duties of a governor of Odessa. Are there no decent, businesslike Ukrainians qualified for the job?" Putin said, when interviewed by US film director Oliver Stone for his "Ukraine on Fire" documentary.

President Barack Obama said he won't hold back from criticizing Donald Trump if the soon-to-be-president does anything to threaten the "values or ideals" of America, saying he would step in if "necessary or helpful to defend those ideals."

Speaking at his final foreign press conference in Lima, Peru, on Sunday, Obama said he would follow the tradition of ex-presidents allowing their successors to govern without meddling.

"I want to be respectful of the office and give the president-elect an opportunity to put forward his platform and his arguments without somebody popping off in every instance," he said.

A Royal Navy patrol boat fired flares at a Spanish vessel off Gibraltar after it attempted to drop a sonar buoy for conducting geological research in British waters.

The tense maritime standoff came amid suspicions that the Spanish authorities had directed the oceanographic vessel, the Angeles Alvarino, to investigate the seabed in the Bay of Gibraltar and use the results of the research to question the UK's jurisdiction over the area.

Angeles Alvarino anchored in British waters near Gibraltar and attempted to drop a sonar buoy, the Telegraph reported on Sunday.

The HMS Sabre, a Royal Navy patrol boat, was scrambled to stop Alvarino. It fired three flares after failing to establish radio contact with the Spanish vessel, which left British waters shortly after the warning.

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares for the White House, his promises to keep his business and presidential life separate are being called into question.

In the two weeks since winning the election, Trump's meetings with businessmen and politicians haven't instilled confidence into critics that he will manage to keep things separate once he enters the Oval Office.

The House Oversight Committee's phones were reportedly jammed on Friday following a social media storm as people called to urge the committee to investigate Trump's perceived conflicts of interest.

Erdogan warns NATO against asylum to 'terrorist' Turkish officers who filed requests

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned NATO countries against granting asylum to the military suspected of having links to the plotters of the failed July 15 coup after dozens of Turkish NATO officers sought asylum in Europe.

"How can a terrorist, a terrorist soldier, a soldier who has been involved in plotting a coup, be employed in NATO?" Erdogan said, as cited by the Milliyet newspaper.

"NATO cannot entertain accepting asylum requests of this kind. Those in question are accused of terror," he added, stressing that the Turkish government demanded extradition of these military personnel and said that giving them shelter is inexcusable.

On Friday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that a number of Turkish officers serving in NATO structures in Europe had recently filed asylum requests, citing personal safety concerns in the view of the crackdown launched by the Turkish authorities following the foiled coup.

Russia's Defense Ministry has found poisonous chlorine and white phosphorus in nine samples from southwestern Aleppo, the ministry's spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Monday.

"Experts from the Russian Defense Ministry conducted an express test of nine samples of shell fragments and earth from shell craters that were taken in District 1070 in the southwestern Aleppo suburb. They confirmed that chlorine and white phosphorus were used to fill munitions," he told reporters.

The spokesman said scientists from the Russian Armed Forces' Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Troops were gathering evidence that militants in the northern Syrian city were using shells that contained poisonous substances against civilians and Syrian armed forces.
