Trump warns UN after resolution critical of Israel passes: 'Things will be different' soon

President-elect Donald Trump slammed the Obama administration for its decision not to veto a U.N. resolution critical of Israel's settlements, promising that it would be "different" under his presidency.

"As to the U.N., things will be different after Jan. 20th," Trump tweeted Friday.

Trump's tweet came about an hour after The U.N. Security Council passed a resolution demanding an end to Israeli settlement building in occupied territories.

The U.S. had the ability to veto the resolution but abstained from doing so despite pressure from Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. lawmakers.

Comment: Netanyahu's actions make the choice clear. One wonders how Trump will broker 'direct negotiations' in the face of continued settlement expansion

Jihadists on welfare: Dozens of Danish ISIS fighters received state unemployment benefits

Denmark has discovered that dozens of its citizens fighting for Islamic State have continued to receive cash benefits. According to local media the government somehow expects jihadists to pay the improperly distributed funds back.

At least 36 people who are known by authorities to have left Denmark allegedly to join the ranks of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) continued to receive welfare payments, according to the Ekstra Bladet newspaper.

Thirty-four alleged jihadists received cash benefits from municipal authorities, and two others from private but heavily state-subsidized funds. The newspaper obtained the figures from the Danish Employment Ministry through a freedom of information request.

Comment: Denmark was aware of this since 2014 yet did nothing to resolve the issue. How many other countries are 'supporting' the jihadists in this way?

The battle for al-Bab, a scene of intense fighting between Daesh and Turkish troops, is close to an end, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. Defense analyst Koray Gurbuz told Sputnik that Washington has indirectly put a spoke in Ankara's wheel since the US-led coalition does not prevent terrorists from moving to the Syrian city.

"The strategically located city of al-Bab is important due to its close proximity to the Turkish province of Kilis, as well as the Syrian cities of Afrin and Manbij. By taking al-Bab under control one will be able to provide security in a sensitive border area and to prepare further anti-Daesh operations," the expert said.

In addition, al-Bab is also located close to Aleppo, the embattled Syrian city which has recently been fully liberated from radical groups. Turkey's cooperation with Russia and Iran played a major part in resolving the Aleppo issue. As a result, Ankara "could count" on Damascus-led forces helping the Turkish army and its allies in al-Bab, the analyst suggested.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced that her cabinet wants to accelerate the repatriation procedures for failed asylum seekers from Tunisia. Her statement follows the Berlin Christmas market attack allegedly carried out by a Tunisian national. "We have ... made progress this year on the very important issue of deporting Tunisian citizens who have no right to stay in Germany," Merkel said during a press conference on Friday. "I told the Tunisian president that we have to significantly speed up the deportation process and increase the number of people sent back," she added.

The chancellor also stressed that the government would introduce changes to the legislation to enhance national security after the Berlin Christmas market truck attack. "The government will immediately develop and implement all necessary measures wherever [we] see a need for political or legislative changes," Merkel said, as cited by Der Spiegel.

She also stressed that Germany still faces a serious terrorist threat that requires active countermeasures from the government, promising to "do everything that is humanly possible" to ensure that Germany remains "a strong state." "Our democracy, our rule of law and our values and compassion stand in contrast with the hateful world of terrorism," she said.

Comment: Merkel's "ins and ousts".

Donald Trump has commented on a letter he received from Russian President Vladimir Putin. President-elect Donald Trump praised the letter as 'very nice,' acknowledging Vladimir Putin's thoughts expressed therein to be 'so correct.'

A statement provided by the President-elect's communication team on Friday, reads:
"A very nice letter from Vladimir Putin; his thoughts are so correct. I hope both sides [United States and Russia] are able to live up to these thoughts, and we do not have to travel an alternate path."
Earlier in the day the Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin sent Trump a letter with season's greetings in which he also expressed hope that the two countries would repair ties.

The full text of the letter sent to President-elect Donald Trump by Russian President Vladimir Putin is provided below:
Dear Mr. Trump,

Please accept my warmest Christmas and New Year greetings.

Serious global and regional challenges, which our countries have to face in recent years, show that the relations between Russia and the U.S. remain an important factor in ensuring stability and security of the modern world.

I hope that after you assume the position of the President of the United States of America we will be able - by acting in a constructive and pragmatic manner - to take real steps to restore the framework of bilateral cooperation in different areas as well as bring our level of collaboration on the international scene to a qualitatively new level.

Please accept my sincere wishes to you and your family of sound health, happiness, wellbeing, success and all the best.

Sincerely,
V. Putin

WADA informant Rodchenkov turned doping use into private business, says Putin during media Q&A

WADA informant Grigory Rodchenkov, who used to head the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory, made a private business out of doping, President Vladimir Putin said during his final Q&A session with the media this year.

Putin was talking about Russia's doping scandal that erupted in the spring, when Rodchenkov announced that he had run a massive doping ring and destroyed thousands of control samples from Russian athletes. He then provided information for an investigative report compiled by Richard McLaren that led the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to recommend that Russia be banned from Rio 2016 games.

"That man, where did he work - in Canada? And what did he do next? He came to Russia and - after securing a high post - dragged all sorts of filth into the country," Putin said, without actually mentioning Rodchenkov by name.

Putin wondered why Rodchenkov had never been stopped at the US-Canadian border with banned substances.

"He was constantly bringing it to Russia, made a personal business on it. He made others take it and use it and if anyone refused... he'd sanction them," Putin said.

Putin's annual Q&A shatters media myth that Russia's a 'closed dictatorship'

Putin's annual media conference focused on allegations of personal involvement in the US elections, the threat of a nuclear arms race, and the potential for a Syria ceasefire.

Did President Obama ever hold a 3 hour public question and answer session, to discuss anything that was thrown his way?

Could Obama even speak for 30 minutes, teleprompter free?

Has America ever seen their elected leader take the stage to openly address concerns (domestic and international), facing the nation?

'Our coalition must endure': 5,000+ US troops embed with coalition forces to strike Mosul

More than 5,000 US forces stationed in Iraq are embedding with other coalition fighters on the frontlines, where the Islamic State has been taking control of major cities like Mosul.

"We have always had opportunities to work side-by-side, but we have never been embedded to this degree," US Army Colonel Brett G. Sylvia told Reuters.

As of August 2016, over 25 nations make up the the coalition forces in Operation Inherent Resolve, but the vast majority of the troops still come from the United States. Together these nations have attacked Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Iraq and neighboring Syria since 2014.

"It's a team effort," Marine Captain Lou Murillo, who has been on the ground in Iraq, told NPR reporters. "If we have intelligence, we'll talk with them and make sure that we are both included on the approval process for it. And then we will send a request up to our higher headquarters, and they process the targets from there."

Comment: Doesn't look like the "end of year" goal will be achieved: The battle to retake Mosul is stalemated?

Maria Zakharova slams columnist who equated slain Russian ambassador with Nazi diplomat

The American journalist and writer Hersh Kuntzman has written in the pages of the New York Daily News that he "shed no tears" for the Russian ambassador. This "civilized journalist" has called the murder of Andrei Karlov "justice done."

He also wrote that the events in Ankara reminded him of the murder of German diplomat Ernst von Rath in Paris in 1938: shot by a Jewish student. The diplomat of course, "was not an innocent victim." In the eyes of many, he was the epitome of "Hitler's atrocities, genocide and anti-Semitism and the impending world aggression."

As for the comparison of Andrei Karlov with the ambassador of the Third Reich, I will say one thing: today we are sending a letter demanding an apology to the chief editor who published this xenophobic story that justifies the act of the terrorist.

Comment: Further reading:
Following an article praising the assassination of Russian Ambassador Andrey Karlov in Turkey, New York Daily News (NYDN) columnist Gersh Kuntzman has been surprised by pushback from readers, suggesting also that 'this is a disturbing trend' - that Americans may empathize with a Russian killed by an Islamic terrorist.

After lauding Russian ambassador's murder, New York Daily News shocked by blowback

Is impeachment part of new plan to stop a Trump Presidency?

Trump vs media
Having failed to stop a Trump Presidency by getting electors in the Electoral College to switch, Trump's opponents are already talking of using the Emoluments Clause in the US Constitution to impeach him.

As predicted, the campaign against Donald Trump's coming Presidency continues unabated, notwithstanding the failure of the attempt to persuade Republican electors in the Electoral College to switch their votes away from him.

The objective now is his impeachment, with the most cited reason being the so-called Emoluments Clause in Article 1 of the US Constitution. This reads as follows
