Marine Le Pen, leader of the French right-wing National Front (FN), said that her party needs a "deep" change become a broader "patriotic" political force after she lost the presidential election to centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron.

"The National Front... must deeply renew itself in order to rise to the historic opportunity and meet the French people's expectations," Le Pen said in a brief address to her supporters shortly after the first projections of the presidential elections' results were released.

"I will propose to start this deep transformation of our movement in order to make a new political force," she added, as cited by Reuters.

Are Trump's cost cuts to USAID a withdrawal from post-Soviet space?

Central Asian voter
As the Russophobic propaganda campaign in the United States intensifies, a number of observers in the United States have recently been wondering why US President Donald Trump would decide to substantially reduce the funding of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), reducing the amount of "aid" that agency is providing to former Soviet countries to zero.

It is hardly worth reminding an informed reader that behind the "humanitarian concerns" USAID allegedly claims to address, one could easily trace attempts to destabilize and bring down governments that refuse to obey Washington's dictates and, therefore, were labeled as unwanted. This has been especially true in recent years for the activities that USAID was engaged in across Latin America: in Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Cuba and a number of other countries. For instance, it's a well-established fact that in Haiti CIA operatives conducted their activities under the guise of USAID employees back in 2003-2004. USAID has also been financing and coordinating the activities of numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that were involved in staging a coup d'état in a bid to overthrow President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

Macron emails lead to allegations of homosexual adventurism, drug use and Rothschild money

macron moron
The information in leaked emails which Wikileaks now claims are authentic, is damning.

French Presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron may not be the boring ex-Rothschild banker turned aspiring war criminal that he's lead us to believe he is. New information gathered by online researchers and published by Milo Yiannopoulos has shown that Macron may be addicted to a dangerous drug, may be engaged in secret homosexual relationships and may have had private alcohol fuelled parties paid for by the Rothschild bank.

Centrist Emmanuel Macron has won the French presidential election, Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has said. These elections were the first to be held under the state of emergency that was introduced after terrorist attacks in 2015.

French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has confirmed that French voters have chosen Macron as president.

"A new page of our long history is opening this evening, I want hope and confidence to be found again this evening," Macron told AFP, after the first projections were announced.

Comment: The neoliberal globalist Macron, darling of the MSM, wins the French presidential election amidst evidence of voter irregularities. Surprised? Neither are we.

"The problem is that the world has listened to Americans for far too bloody long." — Dr. Julian Osborne, from the 2000 film version of Nevil Shute's 1957 book, On the Beach

A reader asked why neoconservatives push toward nuclear war when there can be no winners. If all die, what is the point?

The answer is that the neoconservatives believe that the US can win at minimum and perhaps zero damage.

Comment: Because they are psychopaths and can't conceive of consequences and think they are smarter than everyone else.

SOTT Focus: Behind the Headlines: French Election Hijinks, Russia Gives Trump His Safe Zones

Macron hacking
Today lightweight Emmanuel Macron enters the ring to do battle with Marine Le Pen in the French presidential elections. By any objective measure, Macron would be laughed off the stage and back into that hole in the Rothschilds' basement he crawled out of. But no, it looks like he's slated to win, thanks to a remarkably biased media campaign and enough foreign meddling to make a neocon blush. Not to mention a conveniently timed "Russian hack attack" that is perhaps too little too late, but which will provide months of material for anti-Russian rhetoric from France's robo-banker non-entity.

In other news, Russia, Iran and Turkey have put together a plan whose implementation could spell the end of the war in Syria. With a little help from Trump on the sidelines, the Astana group has agreed to create four "de-escalation zones" in Syria. Once more, the U.S. played no major role in the negotiations, though Putin did speak to Trump about it over the phone, and Lavrov says they used some of the Americans' ideas. Are things looking better for Russian-US relations, and a coming end to 6-year dirty war in Syria?

Tune in today to Behind the Headlines to find out and hear live coverage of the French election.

On May 4, the guarantors of the Syrian ceasefire, Russia, Iran and Turkey, signed a memorandum to establish four safe zones (also referred to as "de-escalation zones") in the war-torn country. The plan officially came into effect as of midnight of Saturday.

The agreement between Moscow, Tehran and Ankara presumes the cessation of airstrikes and combat actions between the Syrian Army and militants who have already joined or will join the ceasefire regime, according to Chief of the Russian General Staff's Main Operational Directorate Col. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy.

The deal was discussed earlier this week during talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi. The memorandum was signed at the end of the fourth round of Syrian peace talks in the Kazakh capital of Astana.

"Guarantor states agreed to create de-escalation zones in Idlib province and parts of the neighboring provinces (Latakia, Hama and Aleppo), certain parts in the north of Homs province, Eastern Ghouta, certain parts in Syria's south (Daraa and Quneitra provinces)," the document reads.

Reaching out? Another US citizen detained in North Korea

A US citizen is reportedly being held by authorities in North Korea on suspicion of carrying out hostile acts against the state.

Citing the nation's KCNA news agency, Reuters reports that Kim Hak Song was arrested Saturday for reasons not yet fully disclosed.

Song is reportedly an employee at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology.

RT.com has contacted the US Department of State for comment.

Comment: On at least two occasions in the recent past, North Korea has deliberately detained American citizens on trumped-up charges so that whichever envoy is sent to retrieve him/her can exchange a few words with the Koreans without the Deep State listening in.

THAT is how closely the permanent war-footing is guarded. And that is why Trump's recent public appeal to meet with Kim Jung Un was like kryptonite to the shadow government.

Nazi-era memorabilia found at German army barracks amid investigation into far-right terror plot

Numerous Nazi-era military awards, propaganda posters, and steel Wehrmacht helmets have been found at an army barracks in western Germany amid an ongoing investigation into an officer suspected of plotting a false-flag attack, Der Spiegel reported.

The bizarre discovery was made by Defense Ministry investigators in the town of Donaueschingen, which is the home base of the Franco-German brigade's 292nd infantry battalion, the magazine reported, citing military investigators.

Posters glorifying the Wehrmacht - the Third Reich's armed forces - were discovered inside the battalion's briefing room, while Nazi-era steel helmets, known for their distinctive German design, were on display in front of the canteen, the newspaper said.

Comment: Update from RT May 7: The German military has ordered a search of the barracks and premises of the Bundeswehr, as the Defense Ministry investigates a far-right network within the armed forces:
Volker Wieker, the chief of staff of the German Army, the Bundeswehr, has ordered that all barracks and buildings used by the military be searched, the German media reported on Sunday. The search for Nazi memorabilia will last until May 16, and the military command will be given a report on the preliminary findings by next Tuesday.

The Nazi memorabilia were uncovered during an ongoing investigation into Franco Albrecht, a 28-year-old first lieutenant who was allegedly plotting a hate-motivated terror attack. Investigators said the officer had been living a double life for more than a year, serving in the army while receiving state benefits under a bogus identity as a supposed Syrian refugee.

Albrecht's plan involved targeting subjects on a "death list," which included left-wing anti-fascist activists, according to Bild. If his plot had succeeded, his fingerprints, which are contained in a refugee database, would have led investigators to his false identity as an asylum seeker, thus putting the blame on migrants.

The German government said earlier that it would "leave no stone unturned" to establish how the officer, who reportedly has xenophobic views, managed to falsely register as a Syrian refugee, even with no command of Arabic.

Additionally, the Defense Ministry now maintains that the suspect did not act alone and was likely a member of a far-right network consisting of at least five people, Hannoverische Allgemeine newspaper reported.

According to Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, the suspect had speculated on how migrants would bring about the "genocide of the Western European peoples" in his master's thesis. Though he was required to submit a different thesis, he received no disciplinary penalty for writing the first. The minister said an analysis of his papers leaves no doubt that he harbors "nationalist, racist and far-right views,"according to Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

In a subsequent comment to ZDF, von der Leyen asserted that the Bundeswehr has an "attitude problem" and "clearly has a weakness of leadership on several levels." In a separate statement, she added that the troops must bear "collective responsibility" for the alleged far-right terror plot. That emotional remark infuriated military commanders, prompting over 100 generals and admirals to demand an apology.

The opposition supported the minister, however. "Her stance on the Bundeswehr and the state of affairs there deserves respect," said Klaus Ernst, vice chairman of the Left Party's parliamentary faction, as cited by the newspaper.

"She is the only post-war minister to speak bluntly about the [far-right] problem in the armed forces," he added.
