An Islamic State suicide bomber carried out an attack on a base hosting US military advisors in Iraq's Kirkuk province early on Sunday, reportedly leaving at least two people dead and six wounded.

The K1 base near the town of Hawija, which has been controlled by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) since 2014, was assaulted by five militants at around 2:45am local time, Kurdistan 24 reported.

Three IS suicide bombers were gunned down by Kurdish peshmerga fighters during a two-hour skirmish, while two others managed to detonate their vests inside the camp.

All of those killed and injured were reportedly Kurdish troops.

Syrian safe zones will not be jihadist havens: The war against terrorism continues

de-esculatio zones in Syria map
The safe zones will not be safe for terrorists who refuse to disarm. The fight against al-Nusra and ISIS will continue to expand.

The Russian Defence Ministry has held a pres briefing detailing the nature and implementation of the safe-zones in Syria which are currently operational.

The most important confirmed fact is that each safe zone will be heavily patrolled by the military forces which are party to the Astana agreement. This includes Russia, Iran and Turkey. Others, including Syrian forces will also be able to participate as discussions continue to help organize and police the safe zones.

Diplomatic exchanges suggest a deal between Trump and Putin about Syria

Putin and Trump on phones
Intense diplomatic activity between US and Russia suggest an understanding has been reached between the Trump administration and the Kremlin over Syria with the US supporting the Russian initiative on 'de-escalation areas' and Russia switching the deconfliction hotline with the US military back on.

Alongside the agreement in Astana between Russia, Turkey and Iran to set up 'de-escalation areas' in Syria, it is clear that diplomatic contacts between the US and Russia about Syria have intensified significantly in recent days, with the White House and the Kremlin engaging in the first positive interactions they have had since Donald Trump's inauguration in January.

OPCW concludes terrorists used chemical weapons in Aleppo yet refuses to investigate alleged false flag in Idlib

idlib chemical attack
Russia blasted the international community's refusal to investigate the apparent false flag chemical attack said to have happened on 4 April of this year.

A report from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has concluded that terrorists who formerly operated in Aleppo prior to its liberation by Russian and Syrian troops, had used illegal chemical weapons on civilian populations.

The terrorists, referred to as 'moderate rebels' by western mainstream media were found to have used sulphur mustard gas during their criminal occupation of East Aleppo.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that it is satisfied with the OPCW's findings.

While the Russian Foreign Ministry praised the OPCW for its exhaustive investigation in Aleppo, Russia blasted the same organisation for refusing to even visit the site of the infamous alleged chemical weapons attack in Idlib Governorate, said to have occurred on the 4th of April, 2017.

The French Presidential campaign and return of stupefying propaganda in Europe

Macaroni
The French Presidential campaign has strayed from the democratic path. We are now witnessing a conditioning of the electorate such as Europe has not known since the Second World War. The example we analysis here is irrefutable. It concerns a work of propaganda - in the dictatorial sense of the term - which should lead to the election of Emmanuel Macron.

The current French Presidential campaign is unlike any other European electoral campaign since the Second World War - for the first time, a team experienced in war propaganda is working in the shadows for one candidate.

The favorite for the election, François Fillon, was eliminated immediately from the first round on the basis of accusations of nepotism and corruption which led to his being faced with legal charges. But none of these accusations has so far been verified.

Lavrov stresses Putin-Trump meeting not for show, but to yield concrete results

"Russia and the United State have such great influence on international stability and security that such a meeting, naturally, is expected to yield concrete results," Russian Foreign Minister said

A meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Donald Trump of the United States, which is currently being prepared, is necessary for both countries not for show or sensations but for concrete results, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Sunday.

"This meeting is necessary for both us and the Americans, as far as I understand, not to make any sort of external effect and say, 'Here it is, a sensation, a meeting which has been talked about for so long has finally taken place,'" Lavrov said in an interview with the Mir television channel. "Both us and our US partners are confident that when the leaders meet, it is important not only for the sake of shaking hands and hearing what they think about their relations with each other and international problems."

Israeli ministers back nation-state bill delisting Arabic language

A ministerial legislation committee has approved a controversial bill that seeks to enshrine Israel's status as a nation state of the Jewish people, but critics say it would undermine democracy and could lead to discrimination of non-Jews.

The proposed bill would become a new Basic Law, which serve as Israel's constitutional legislation. It would declare Israel a Jewish nation state and a unique realization of its right to self-determination. It would also set Hatikva as the country's national anthem, describe the country's national symbol and flag, and designate Hebrew as Israel's only official language, although Arabic would be given special status. The bill also mentions the Right of Return - the right of ethnic Jews to receive Israeli citizenship.

Critics of the bill say it makes non-Jews de facto second-rate citizens in Israel, arguing that its emphasis on Jewish identity undermines the country's commitment to being a democratic state, as is stated in its Basic Laws.

Kremlin calls for investigation of gay abuse in Chechnya - Kadyrov will cooperate

Chechnya's strongman leader Ramzan Kadyrov said late on May 5 that he is "ready to closely cooperate" with Kremlin officials looking into reports of alleged persecution of gay men in the republic.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier in the day that he would personally "talk to the prosecutor-general and the interior minister" to ask them to help Kremlin rights ombudswoman Tatyana Moskalkova check out the reports, which have drawn international condemnation.

"Chechnya is keen to make it known to Western politicians who speak out on this topic, including Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel, that all their statements on the matter are baseless," Kadyrov told Russian media.

But while he is ready to cooperate with the investigation, he said, "the West has been inflating this topic," and asserted -- as he has before -- that Chechnya doesn't have any gay people.

"Chechen society does not have the phenomenon called nontraditional sexual orientation. Its people have lived for thousands of years according to different rules laid down by Allah," he said.

Comment: Notice how the West never misses an opportunity to demonize Russia or Putin no matter how tenuous the accusations, yet there not a word is spoken regarding Saudi Arabia's persecution of gay men. It's all about "evil Putin" and his henchmen.
This original theme of torture and executions of gays in Chechnya was propagated by journalists of "Novaya Gazeta", publishing names of GayRussia.com activists, with assertions that the activists claim not to have made. The NG publication has since been sued by the activists of GayRussia.com, stating - "We [the organisation] never gave any information in regard to torture and executions of gays in Chechnya."
[...]
The journalists of "Novaya Gazeta" may have become hostages of a scam organized by Russia's "LGBT Network". In their mailbox, (kavkaz@lgbtnet.org), the same victim stories have been found that were published in "Novaya Gazeta". Now, this same organization is raising funds for victims at a special website. Donations are being collected for the emigration of Chechen homosexuals, from US $ 10 to unlimited - you can also arrange monthly transfers.

LGBT activist, Nikolay Alekseev, has called it "the most ambitious financial scam in LGBT history of Russia." Alekseev, in his post on Facebook wrote that it is very easy to collect donations, with the help of the media. But in the end, suggests Alekseev, the funds raised in the defense of Chechen gays "end up in unknown pockets, and the situation with LGBT rights in Russia remains unaddressed."

Former Trump aide says he's eager to testify about 'comically fake' Russian hacking

A Senate committee investigating Moscow's interference in last year's election has asked several of President Donald Trump's associates to turn over information about possible contacts with Russian officials or businessmen. Former Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page responded on Friday, calling the congressional probe a "comically fake inquiry" but pledging to cooperate.

Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, Republican strategist Roger Stone and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort are also among those the Senate intelligence committee has asked for information and documents related to its investigation.

Both the Senate and House intelligence panels along with U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials are investigating Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election. FBI Director James Comey has said that the FBI probe is exploring the nature of any links between individuals associated with Trump's campaign and the Russian government, and whether there was any coordination between Russia's efforts and the Trump campaign.

Fake News Alert: Thailand's alleged 'autocrat' ousted a very real US-backed dictator

Prayuth Chan-ocha
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha
Mounting evidence suggests media outlets across the United States and Europe are selectively labeling leaders from around the world as "autocrats," "despots" and "dictators" based not on their actual human rights records, policies or actions, but rather on where they fall along the spectrum of obedience to and complicity with the ambitions of Wall Street, Washington, London and Brussels.

No clearer example of this can be seen than the media's treatment of current Thai prime minister, Prayut Chan-O-Cha.
