The Syrian General Staff said that the US-led coalition struck a Daesh depot storing chemical weapons in Deir ez-Zor on Wednesday.

The Syrian military said that this fact proves that terrorists possess chemical weapons.

"The jets of the so-called US-led coalition launched a strike at about 17:30-17:50 [local time, 14:30-14:50 GMT] on a Daesh warehouse where many foreign fighters were present. First a white cloud and then a yellow one appeared at the site of the strike, which points at the presence of a large number of poisonous substances. A fire at the site continued until 22:30 [19:30 GMT]," the Syrian army's command statement obtained by Sputnik said.

The Philippines leader has cancelled his visit and flag raising ceremony at Spratly Islands in the South China Sea whose sovereignty is disputed with China; backtracking on his recently issued order for the military to occupy and fortify the disputed land.

In July 2016, The Hague Tribunal awarded the Philippines sovereignty rights over the Spratly Islands, rejecting China's claim that it has historic rights to the archipelago. However, having won the legal battle the Philippines, after Rodrigo Duterte assumed office, worked to mend relations with China over the South China Sea territorial dispute.

US President Donald Trump gave an intimate account of his state of mind as he ordered the launch of 59 Tomahawk missiles on Syria last week, and implied that China's leader Xi Jinping agreed with his decision.

"I was sitting at the table. We had finished dinner. We're now having dessert. And we had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you've ever seen and President Xi was enjoying it," Trump told Fox Business Network's Maria Bartiromo, during an interview that aired on Wednesday morning.

Fake news: CNN uses anonymous source to push conspiracy theory of Russian collusion in Syrian gas attack

An anonymous senior US official told CNN that, while the US allegedly has proof that Damascus is responsible for the chemical incident in Idlib, Syria, it has uncovered no such evidence implicating Moscow, because Russia is wilier in scrambling its communications.

The anonymous official reportedly told the American news channel that the US intelligence community had intercepted communications "featuring Syrian military and chemical experts talking about preparations for the sarin attack in Idlib last week." While the source failed to provide any concrete details about the alleged communication - such when it was intercepted or what names or other information it contained - they did note that the US "did not know prior to the attack it was going to happen."

CNN speculated that the communication had been sent prior to the incident, but was not processed until the US began investigating it.

Comment: Of course the US will never go public with evidence against Russia. As always, they have none to offer. The only thing they can do is spread rumors through back-channels, with the expectation of people blindly accepting it.

In a new report, the Fitch rating agency has drastically changed its mind on the impact of US President Donald Trump's policies on the country's domestic growth and the world economy as a whole.

Fitch's mostly enthusiastic report on US internal finances reaffirmed the country's excellent AAA credit rating and raised the outlook for GDP growth.

According to the agency, the US economy will grow at 2.3 percent this year and 2.6 percent in 2018. The figure is well above the 1.6 percent average growth rate under President Obama.

"A Coalition air strike in support of partnered forces fighting ISIS south of Tabqah, Syria, resulted in 18 Syrian Democratic Forces personnel killed April 11," the statement said.

It added that the strike was "requested by the partnered forces," who identified the target location as "an ISIS fighting position."

"The target location was actually a forward Syrian Democratic Forces fighting position," it added.

A voter registration website that crashed in the lead-up to last year's EU referendum may have been taken offline by foreign hackers, a group of MPs claimed in a report published on Wednesday, despite lacking evidence to back the claim.

MPs on the parliamentary Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) said they could not rule out hackers caused the site to crash on June 7, just before the final deadline for people to sign up to vote. A previous government statement blamed the crash on a surge in demand following a TV debate.

"PACAC is deeply concerned about these allegations of foreign interference," the report says. It adds there was no evidence of the interference impacting the referendum outcome.

Vladimir Putin gave an interview to Mir television and radio broadcasting company on the eve of his visit to Kyrgyzstan. The interview took place on April 11.

President of Interstate Television and Radio Company Mir Radik Batyrshin: The Collective Security Treaty Organization celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The benefits for Russia's allies are clear. Firstly, they receive the latest Russian arms at discount prices. Secondly, their armed forces personnel receive training at Russian military academies. Thirdly, they have access to Russian armed forces' intelligence data, and then there is the space and air defense the Russian Federation provides, and much more.

Furthermore, we should not forget that if any of the CSTO member states is attacked, the Russian armed forces have an obligation to defend it. The Russian armed forces are the biggest in the CSTO today, and, as the operation in Syria has shown, they are among the most effective in the world. The advantages for our allies are therefore clear, but what does Russia gain from membership in the CSTO?

Russian media: 36 lost US missiles in Syria airbase attack likely intercepted by Russian Air Force

A Russian daily said the 36 Tomahawk missiles that were lost and never struck their target in the US strikes at Syria's Shayrat airbase last week have most possibly been intercepted by Russian fighter jets.

The Russian language Nezavisimaya Gazeta daily said in its Wednesday issue that 36 Tomahawk cruise missiles that the US navy fired at the Syrian Shayrat airbase on Thursday were possibly intercepted by the Russian warplanes.

The paper further argued against the speculations that US missiles have been targeted by the S300 or S400 air defense systems that are protecting Tartus and Humeimim bases.

The Russian daily wrote that the US missiles were possibly targeted by Sukhoi-35s and Sukhoi-30 SM that are capable of intercepting and hitting Tomahawk missiles.

The Russian paper added that the US navy planned to only fire 36 missiles from destroyer Ross, but after they were intercepted by the Russian air force, it gave the mission to its destroyer Porter to fire another 23 missiles at Shayrat airbase as the Russian warplanes were returning to their bases.
