Netanyahu had a 'tough' call with Trump regarding recent Middle East developments

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly had a "tense" phone call with US President Donald Trump, according to two White House officials familiar with the situation.

The conversation basically centered around Netanyahu's concerns that the US military will leave Syria, thus making it possible for Israel's enemies, Iran and its affiliates, to gain more heft in the area, Haaretz cited the officials as saying.

The official statement released by the US government said that Netanyahu and Trump discussed "recent developments in the Middle East," with the president "reiterating the commitment of the United States to Israel's security and the two leaders agreeing to continue their close coordination on countering Iran's malign influence and destabilizing activities."

Netanyahu has since praised Trump for his "commitment to Israel's security." Along with the Israeli prime minister, the Saudi crown prince also expressed opposition to the US pulling out its troops.

Last week, when speaking at a rally, Trump famously exclaimed that "we're knocking the hell out of ISIS," adding that the US, which has about 2,000 personnel deployed in Syria, is pulling out of the country "very soon."

Comment: "But Donald, the reason you're in Syria in the first place was for us!" Makes you want to reach for a sick bag. Israel creates its own enemies. Take away the US and Israel has to face reality, stop being a bully and adjust accordingly within its neighborhood or suffer the consequences of its pathology and paranoia.

Ex-aide Moftah Missouri: 'Gaddafi told me he donated €20mn to Sarkozy's campaign'

Speaking to RT, a trusted adviser to Muammar Gaddafi shed light on how the late Libyan leader allegedly funneled €20 million to support the election campaign of his "friend" Nicolas Sarkozy, who became French president in 2007.

Moftah Missouri, a former interpreter and trusted aide to Gaddafi, exclusively told RT the Libyan strongman had once confessed to him that he had donated €20 million (US$24 million) to fund Nicolas Sarkozy's presidential bid. Sarkozy reportedly first told Gaddafi of his ambitions of entering the Elysee Palace while on a visit to Libya in 2005, and the colonel welcomed the news, Missouri said.
"At the end of his visit, he met the leader of the Libyan revolution [Gaddafi]... the meeting lasted about 45 minutes," the former Gaddafi adviser added. When Sarkozy said he was intending to run for the presidency, the Libyan leader replied by saying that it was good news, noting "it would be good if a friend of Libya and a friend of him [Gaddafi] becomes president of France," Missouri added.
The late leader promised to render "all kind of support and assistance" to the French politician, and it came shortly after he announced his candidacy, the former aide claimed. His campaign officials met with Libyan counterparts, and the two sides reportedly came up with a document - named after Bashir Saleh, one of Libya's negotiators - that requested €50 million ($61 million) as a donation to support Sarkozy's bid.

Austria seeks to maintain its neutrality and be a mediator for other nations, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said, explaining the decision not to join the 'diplomat expulsion' brigade, triggered by the UK's accusations against Russia.

Vienna did not join the trend to expel Russian diplomats, as the country wants to remain the "bridge building" platform where "hundreds of diplomats hold talks" on a daily basis, Kurz said. The Chancellor has also noted that Austria was among the one third of EU countries which did not take hostile actions against Moscow over the Skripal case allegations.

"We have good relations with Russia now. We are a neutral country and home to the headquarters of many international organizations such as the UN and OSCE; hundreds of diplomats come here to have talks on neutral ground. That's why we can develop the role of a bridge between nations," Kurz told the Plus 4 broadcaster on Wednesday, in an interview marking his first 100 days in office.

The new sanctions imposed by the US violate the principles of the free trade and will prompt an "asymmetric" response from Moscow, Russian lawmakers say. They also said the restrictions are a "dead end."

"The Americans are going on the offensive against Russia," First Deputy Head of the Russian Senate's International Affairs Committee Vladimir Dzhabarov told RIA Novosti while commenting on the new sanctions list issued by the US Treasury earlier on Friday.

In total, 24 Russians and 14 entities were put on the list, including in particular Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, as well as the head of the Russian Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, Konstantin Kosachev. The sanctions also targeted Russian billionaires such as Oleg Deripaska and Alexey Miller.

Dzhabarov called the US move "outrageous" and said that it is a manifestation of Washington's "powerlessness" and "psychosis," fueled by the fact that many of the US' recent political projects, including its operation in Syria and attempts to find evidence of Russia's interference in the 2016 US election, have failed. The senator pointed out that these actions undertaken by the US can only lead to a further escalation of tensions between Moscow and Washington, and possibly even a deadlock.

Zakharova urges UK to provide official statement on Viktoria Skripal's visa

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has called on London to provide official explanations about the situation around an entry visa to former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal's niece Viktoria, at least out of humanitarian considerations.

"We urge the United Kingdom to make an official statement to explain the situation around an entry visa to Viktoria Skripal. We thinks that British officials, at least out of humanitarian considerations, must summon their strength to provide an official statement at least on this aspect," she said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.

The US and its coalition, numbering the in dozens, have been involved in numerous military operations, including thousands of military personnel, in Syria on the premise of eradicating ISIS from the Middle Eastern country, albeit without the consent of the Syrian government of Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.

Last week, US President Donald Trump proposed pulling out of the conflict on the basis that the US has dumped a massive amount of resources into these and other operations in the Middle East, with costs exceeding $7 trillion, with no recognizable benefit to the US or its citizens, let alone to those of the country that the US military is conducting these active operations in, who have only witnessed massive death and destruction.

President Trump's proposal, however was short lived as the new US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Joseph Dunford, together with special envoy to the US-led coalition Brett McGurk, Defense Secretary James Mattis, and director of the US Joint Staff, Director Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie on Tuesday quickly and vehemently advised against an immediate withdrawal of forces on the ground in Syria, on the basis that such a move would be contrary to America's national interests.

The coalition of center-right and right-wing parties, who won the majority in the new Italian government, lambasted the decision of the outbound Cabinet to expel Russian diplomats.
Leading Italian political parties have each issued statements in condemnation of Italy's present government in its decision to follow Britain in expelling Russian diplomats as a countermeasure over allegations of Russia's use of banned chemical weapons in assassination attempt on ex double spy Sergey Skripal and his daughter.

Given that the accusations were made before an investigation had even been conducted, and which ongoing investigations have been recently turning up a lack of evidence tracing back to Russia, it's needless to say that such accusations were premature and inappropriate, let alone the countermeasures taken by the British government and the massive amount of anti-Russian media coverage in recent weeks.

The Northern League, Forza Italia, and Brothers of Italy, none of which were able to secure enough of a majority in the March Italian primaries to secure the election, as they continue to battle the Democratic Party for control of the Italian government, have each issued declarations that the Democrats have made a "stupid decision" in choosing to cast out Russian diplomats and play along with sanctions against Russia as both a ridiculous political blunder and a damaging economic move, as the Italian economy suffers from their implementation. The first OPCW chief, who tried to bring Iraq and Libya into the organization, told RT how US foreign policy hawk John Bolton threatened him over his refusal to resign prior to the 2003 Iraq War.

Jose Bustani, the first director-general of the global chemical weapons watchdog Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), sat down with RT and revealed how John Bolton, a Bush-era official and now Donald Trump's pick for National Security Adviser, bulldozed the way for the 2003 Iraq invasion.

Bustani, a Brazilian diplomat, led the organization from 1997 until 2002, when he was ousted after falling out of favor with the US. At the time, he was trying to convince Iraq and Libya to join the organization, meaning that the two countries would have been obliged to dispose of all chemical weapons if they had any.

In Libya, NATO bombed a path to Tripoli to help its proxy forces on the ground oust Gaddafi. Tens of thousands lost their lives and that country's social fabric and infrastructure now lies in ruins. Gaddafi was murdered and his plans to assert African independence and undermine Western (not least French) hegemony on that continent have been rendered obsolete.

In Syria, the US, Turkey, France, Britain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been helping to arm militants. The Daily Telegraph's March 2013 article "US and Europe in 'major airlift of arms to Syrian rebels through Zagreb'" reported that 3,000 tons of weapons dating back to the former Yugoslavia had been sent in 75 planeloads from Zagreb airport to the rebels. The New York Times March 2013 article "Arms Airlift to Syria Rebels Expands, With CIA Aid" stated that Arab governments and Turkey had sharply increased their military aid to Syria's opposition fighters. This aid included more than 160 military cargo flights.

Sold under the notion of a spontaneous democratic uprising against a tyrannical political leader, Syria is little more than an illegal war for capital, empire and energy.
