Trump should thank Iran not Israel

Trump Ali Khamenei Iran
President Trump and Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran
Donald Trump has betrayed his base completely. His Iran policy is insane. Yesterday's shameful countenance of the massacre of lightly-armed Arabs was the breaking point. Viewed dispassionately, yesterday's confrontation was between those of the jailer and the jailed.

The result was predictable and horrific.

But, putting that aside for a moment, let's look at the current situation. Trump's reasons for leaving the JCPOA lie in direct opposition to his stated campaign goals. Calling the JCPOA the "worst deal in history" he has consistently tied the money part of the deal to Iran's 'terrorism.'

But, is this terrorism they are supporting or Trump's own stated goals of bringing us home from Afghanistan and Syria after destroying ISIS?

Trump's 'no-deal' with Iran opens door for coup led by US and Israel, or at the very least lead to destabilization - ex-Mossad offical

The US, Israel and Saudi Arabia - can change regime in Iran, and Trump's policy provides an opening for it, a former top Mossad official speculated, adding that if a coup fails, Iranians will still be fighting each other.

Haim Tomer, a former Mossad official said to lead Intelligence, Counter-Terrorism and International Divisions, explicitly talked about possible options for regime change in Tehran during an interview with the Jerusalem Post.

Claiming that the "Khomeini-ist Islamic state" wants to destroy Israel, Tomer argued: "We can deal with the threat itself: nuclear weapons, conventional Iranian missiles. We can defend against them." The former intelligence chief went further, saying Trump's policy on Iran "created a major opening... to carefully weigh pushing for regime change as a formal goal."

Israel commits high crimes against humanity: Only Iran, Turkey, and S. Africa call them out for it

Gaza City protest tear gas
© Marcus Yam / Los Angeles Times via Getty ImagesProtesters run away from tear gas dispersed by Israeli forces as they inch closer to the border fence separating Israel and Gaza on May 14, 2018, in a camp east of Gaza City, Gaza.
Longstanding Israeli brutality against Palestinians constitutes what the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) calls "crimes against humanity."

They include murder, extermination, enslavement, forcible deportations, imprisonment or deprivation of freedoms in violation of international law, torture, rape and related offenses, unjustifiable persecution, forced disappearances, apartheid, and/or other inhumane acts, causing great suffering, bodily injury or serious trauma.

Israel is guilty on all of the above counts, bloody Monday in Gaza the latest example of its ruthlessness - a Ziofascist gangster state masquerading as democratic.

Monday's horrendous toll in Gaza included 59 Palestinian men, women and children murdered in cold blood (including an 8-month-old baby from toxic tear gas inhalation), another 2,700 injured, scores seriously, countless numbers permanently disabled - for the "crime" of protesting peacefully against US-supported Israeli viciousness, causing a grave humanitarian crisis under virtual concentration camp prison conditions.

Israel and Washington despicably blamed Gazans for high crimes committed against them. An IDF spokesman accused Hamas of sending terror cells to breach the border fence to kidnap Israeli soldiers - a bald-faced lie.

No one directed Gazans to do anything. They came out voluntarily en masse, protesting peacefully against Israeli viciousness.

Turkey calls back ambassador to Israel for emergency meeting after Gaza massacre

President Tayyip Erdogan described Monday's bloodshed as genocide and called Israel a terrorist state.

Turkey told Israel's ambassador to leave the country Tuesday after Israeli forces killed 60 Palestinians during protests on the Gaza border against the opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.

Turkey has been one of the most vocal critics of Israel's response to the Gaza protests and the embassy move, recalling its ambassadors from Tel Aviv and Washington and calling for an emergency meeting of Islamic nations on Friday.

President Tayyip Erdogan described Monday's bloodshed, the deadliest for Palestinians since the 2014 Gaza conflict, as genocide and called Israel a terrorist state. The government declared three days of mourning.

"The Israeli ambassador was told that our envoy to Israel was called back for consultations, and was informed that it would be appropriate for him to go back to his country for some time," a Turkish Foreign Ministry source said.

Government spokesman Bekir Bozdag told parliament Tuesday that Turkey held the United States equally accountable for Monday's violence.

Ted Cruz: Silicon Valley poses 'real and present danger' to US democracy

Ted Cruz
© Gage SkidmoreSenator Ted Cruz
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned against the unchecked power of big tech during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News Sunday, recommending that America "looks at all the tools we have to protect free speech and prevent[s] the Internet from becoming a vehicle for censorship."

"The nexus of power in media has moved from New York City to Silicon Valley," Cruz told host Breitbart News Deputy Political Editor Amanda House.

"At this point, a handful of companies enjoy power that famed publisher William Randolph Hearst, at the height of yellow journalism, could never have imagined."

"We've heard reports from whistleblowers of 'shadowbanning', where you simply tweet or post something and nobody sees it, it just goes into the void, goes into the ether."

"Likewise, if there are views that a handful of tech companies like, they can favor those views and direct them to your feed so everything you see is the information they want you to see."

Comment: Cruz is right, as far as it goes. But tell it to the CIA and NSA. Surely Teddy knows that they pose just as big as a threat to US democracy.

Syrian War Report: Army liberates over 30 villages in Homs pocket - evacuation of militants ongoing

syria war map

Syrian forces have re-established control of the area east of the M5 highway in the Rastan pocket in northern Homs now that militants have withdrawn from the area. According to pro-government sources, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies are now in control of over 30 settlements located there.

At the same time, the evacuation of militants from the pocket is still ongoing. On May 15, 73 buses left the area.

As soon as the evacuation deal is fully implemented, the SAA will establish full control of the Rastan area. This will allow the Syrian government to start to use more actively the M5 highway, which is a vital supply line linking southern and northern Syria. However, a part of the highway heading through the province of Idlib is still in the hands of militants. According to pro-government sources, this area is one of the targets of upcoming military operations by the SAA and its allies.

In southern Damascus, the SAA and its allies have liberated a number of points near the Quds Mosque in the Yarmouk refugee camp area from ISIS. Government troops have also advanced on ISIS positions in the northern part of the district of al-Hajar al-Aswad.

Comment: The Rastan pocket in Homs and the ISIS-held neighborhood in Yarmouk are the last militant-held pockets not on Syria's border, aside from the stray ISIS fighters in the eastern desert (west of the Euphrates). With Rastan being liberated, and Yarmouk approaching the same, Syria's interior has been secured. All that remains are the ISIS and rebel areas on the border with Jordan and Israeli-occupied Golan, the US-occupied al-Tanf area on the border with Jordan and Iraq, the northeast occupied by the SDF and ISIS, and the northwest occupied by Turkey and al-Qaeda. US blocks UN statement calling for probe into deaths at Gaza border protests

Nikki Haley UN
The United States blocked a United Nations Security Council statement, drafted Monday, that called for an independent probe of the over 50 deaths at the Israel-Gaza border which occurred during riots over the new US embassy opening in Jerusalem. The statement referred to the deaths as the "killing of Palestinian civilians" in a "peaceful protest." The U.S. and Israel have blamed the deaths on the Hamas terrorist organization behind the protests.

"The Security Council expresses its outrage and sorrow at the killing of Palestinian civilians exercising their right to peaceful protest," it read according to a draft of the statement obtained by AFP.

It also denied the recent recognition by the U.S. of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, saying actions "which purport to have altered the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal effect."

Comment: If Israel's talking points held any water then they would welcome a probe into the protest - after all, the protesters are all 'terrorists' and 'Nazis,' right?

OPCW says chlorine 'likely' used in Syria based on testimonies & samples provided by jihadists

The OPCW report claiming that chlorine was "likely used" in Saraqeb, Syria in February is "seriously misleading" because its narrative is based on evidence provided by jihadists, the former UK ambassador told RT.

A fact-finding mission (FFM) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) on Wednesday published a report which "determined that chlorine, released from cylinders through mechanical impact, was likely used as a chemical weapon on 4 February 2018 in the Al Talil neighborhood of Saraqib" in the Idlib province of Syria. Eleven people were treated after the attack for mild and moderate symptoms of toxic chemical exposure, the OPCW said in a report on its findings.

The FFM based their conclusions on a number of factors, namely the presence of two empty cylinders, which allegedly earlier contained chlorine as well as patients who were admitted to medical facilities after the reported incident. The report also states that the FFM never made it to the site of the alleged attack and relied solely on 'evidence' provided by three NGOs, two of which are based overseas. Despite the compelling narrative of the OPCW, the former British ambassador to Syria, Peter Ford, characterized the report as "seriously misleading" and "deeply disturbing."

'No secret': German media reports Western countries have known Novichok formula for decades

chemistry lab equipment

A sample of Novichok, the nerve agent allegedly used to poison the Skripals, was obtained by German intelligence back in the 1990s, local media report. The substance has since been studied and produced by NATO countries.

Western countries, including the US and the UK, have long been aware of the chemical makeup of the nerve agent known as Novichok, a group of German media outlets reported following a joint investigation. The inquiry, based on anonymous sources, gives new insights into the issue of the nerve agent said to have been used in the poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, UK, in March.

Western governments were able to lay their hands on the formula of what is described as "one of the deadliest chemical weapons ever developed" after the German foreign intelligence service, the BND, obtained a sample of the nerve agent from a Russian defector in the early 1990s.

Merkel's second meeting with Putin in a month could signal positive shift in Russia-EU relations

putin merkel handshake
© Alexander Zemlianichenko / Reuters
German Chancellor Angela Merkel's working visit to Sochi on Friday could signal a positive shift in EU-Russia relations, as the European bloc reassesses its fealty to Washington.

Merkel came to Sochi at the start of May to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin - which at the time was her first visit to the country since 2014. Less than a week later, US President Donald Trump announced that he would be withdrawing his country from the Iran nuclear deal, of which Russia and Germany are both signatories. The decision has infuriated Europe, with Merkel going so far as to suggest that Europe can no longer rely upon the United States to ensure its security and maintain international norms.

With Merkel trekking out to Sochi for the second time this month, it appears that Europe, increasingly disillusioned Washington, will seek closer cooperation with Moscow in hopes of salvaging the Iran deal and making headway on a number of other critical international issues.
