Ilhan Omar trashes America: 'Ignorance is really pervasive in many parts of this country'

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) once again took a shot at Americans on Tuesday when she said during a podcast that "ignorance" was prevalent in "many parts of this country."

Speaking about the process that refugees go through, Omar claimed that Republicans were "really good at misinformation and sort of really reorganizing facts to sort of paint a picture that really eventually is not rooted in fact."

"And so it is not that they might not be knowledgeable about this, but they use it as a tool to stir up hate and division," Omar continued. "And ignorance really is pervasive in many parts of, of this country."

Omar has faced backlash on a near weekly basis for anti-Semitic comments and the Democratic leadership has defended her by claiming she was ignorant about the type of words that are used in the U.S., saying that Omar has "a different experience in the use of words, and doesn't understand that some of them are fraught with meaning."

Bannon: 'Shutting down' Huawei '10 times more important' than trade deal with China

Donald Trump's former chief strategist Steve Bannon gave an impassioned account of what is driving the US war on Chinese tech firm Huawei... and trade has little to do with it. The US wants to destroy its competitor, for good.

Bannon, often credited with putting Trump in the White House, said that driving Huawei out of the US and Europe is far more critical than any trade deal with Beijing, the South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday.
The executive order is 10 times more important than walking away from the trade deal. It [Huawei] is a major national security threat, not just to the US but to the rest of the world. We are going to shut it down.
Taking a page from the administration's playbook (which he admittedly helped to create), he called Huawei "a massive national security issue" and "a threat," but failed to provide any kind evidence.

One day after announcing wage gap plan, report shows men are paid more than women in Kamala Harris' office

Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) may have wanted to check the books in her own office before announcing her strict plan to end the "wage gap" if she becomes president.

As IJR reported on Monday, Harris announced a strict plan that aims to close the wage gap in the United States. The senator's presidential proposal would require that businesses provide their payroll to the federal government. Employees in the same position must be paid the same unless the company can prove significant differences in seniority or merit.

If a company can't meet the threshold of justification for their wage differences, they will face massive fines - a point Harris bragged about repeatedly.

Comment: How comically appropriate that Mrs. Harris would be subject to defending herself from her own proposed and redundant legislation.

Peter Schiff: Russia prudently boosts gold reserves with eye on impending US dollar crisis

The global gold fever, led by Russia which is diversifying its foreign exchange reserves, is the right thing to do as the US dollar's value is being diminished, CEO of Euro Pacific Capital Peter Schiff told RT.

The greenback's role as a reserve currency is going to be questioned soon, according to Schiff.

"I think what Russia is doing or other central banks are recognizing is that they need to increase their gold reserves because of the impending dollar crisis. Ever since the US led the world off the gold standard, the world has been on a dollar standard. That was fine when the dollar was backed by gold but now the dollar is backed by nothing..." said Schiff.

Comment: Russia, along with China, has been quietly pursuing a course away from the dollar in as un-disruptive a manner possible. They understand there is no point in crashing an entire world economy to defeat a foe. Indeed, the preferred strategy for both Putin and Xi would be dialogue and trade with the US. But there comes a point where wise leaders look after their own citizens first.

Judicial Watch assessment: 'Coup cabal' was 'an international effort to take out Trump'

Brennan CIA trump
President Trump and John Brennan
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, described the Trump-Russia narrative and Robert Mueller-led operation as parts of an "international effort to take out" President Donald Trump.

He offered his remarks in a Monday interview on SiriusXM's Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.

Fitton previously described the Trump-Russia "collusion" narrative as "the big lie," noting its ubiquity across the overlapping political and news media landscapes.

"Yesterday, you had confirmation over in the United Kingdom that that intelligence operation there - the UK's intelligence apparatus - also knew about the dossier," said Fitton, "and part of that spying that took place with Stefan Halper also took place in London. The New York Times, at the end of their story, exposing that, disclosed that the UK knew about that spy operation as well."

Comment: Rudy Giuliani called it nearly a year ago:
Well before Monday night, when Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani let a small bomb drop on Brennan, there was strong evidence that Brennan had been quarterbacking illegal operations against Trump. Giuliani added fuel to the fire when he told Sean Hannity of Fox news:
"I'm going to tell you who orchestrated, who was the quarterback for all this. ... The guy running it is Brennan, and he should be in front of a grand jury. Brennan took ... a dossier that, unless he's the biggest idiot intelligence agent that ever lived ... it's false; you can look at it and laugh at it. And he peddled it to [then Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid, and that led to the request for the investigation. So you take a false dossier, get senators involved, and you get a couple of Republican senators, and they demand an investigation - a totally phony investigation."
And on Fox News, Joe DiGenova has more to add:

French domestic intel questions Le Monde journalist who exposed Benalla affair

A French reporter who exposed cronyism in President Emmanuel Macron's administration has been summoned for questioning by domestic intelligence, the fifth journalist subjected to the chilling treatment within a month.

Le Monde journalist Ariane Chemin has been directed to appear before the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) next week, according to the paper's editorial director. Chemin was the first to write about Alexandre Benalla, a security aide and member of President Emmanuel Macron's inner circle who was caught on film beating a protester while impersonating a policeman. The story opened a window into extensive corruption within the Macron government, leading to several more stories and multiple officials resigning in disgrace, turning what has become known as the "Benalla affair" into a millstone around Macron's neck.

Comment: Ariane Chemin deserves a medal for outing some of the corruption of Macronette's government.

UK suffers crushing defeat in UN vote over its occupation of Chagos Islands

The United Nations general assembly has overwhelmingly backed a motion condemning Britain's occupation of the remote Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean.

The 116-6 vote left the UK diplomatically isolated and was also a measure of severely diminished US clout on the world stage. Washington had campaigned vigorously at the UN and directly in talks with national capitals around the world in defence of the UK's continued control of the archipelago, where there is a US military base at Diego Garcia.

The vote was in support of a motion setting a six-month deadline for Britain to withdraw from the Chagos island chain and for the islands to be reunified with neighbouring Mauritius. It endorsed an advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in February, calling on the UK to relinquish its hold on the territory in order to complete the process of decolonisation.

Comment: The UK claims the islands won't be used for nefarious activities? And we're supposed to believe them? Britain accused of creating secret torture policy so long as 'benefits justify risks'

US quietly upgrading missile defense site in Romania - Nuclear capable Tomahawks to return to Europe

US navy missile

The US is quietly upgrading its Aegis Ashore missile defense site in Romania, possibly to allow it to launch offensive Tomahawk cruise missiles, military analyst Mikhail Khodarenok has learned.

This could be the first time in decades Tomahawks return to Europe.

A low-key modernization effort is taking place at Deveselu, where Aegis Ashore is stationed in Romania. Once it's complete, there's a high probability of Tomahawk cruise missiles being delivered to the site, according to RT's military analyst Mikhail Khodarenok.

According to Khodarenok, the Pentagon is sending two guided-missile destroyers equipped with the Aegis combat system with SM-3 missile interceptors aboard and deploying Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) systems to Romania. The reinforcement of the base's defenses may suggest that the US military want the THAADs and the ship-based missiles to take over the defensive functions and free up the land-based site for something else, the analyst believes.

Comment: The US clearly didn't waste time between scrapping the INF peace treaty and ramping up the aggression. Do those countries facilitating the moves of the warmongers, that also includes Poland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, really believe its worth it?

Manchester Bombing inquest indefinitely delayed while 'accomplice' held in Libya

Hashem Abedi still hasn't been extradited from Tripoli

The inquests into the Manchester Arena bombing have been indefinitely delayed while an alleged accomplice rots in a Libyan jail.

Hashem Abedi, the younger brother of apparent bomber Salman, has reportedly been held in Libya since the May 2017 attack. So far the UK has been unable to secure his extradition.

Investigators have at different times claimed varying degrees of involvement from Hashem, making him a key element in understanding what happened that day. But for whatever reason, the Libyans are yet to complete their own ambiguous legal process. We must now wait until at least April 2020 for the inquests to proceed, which is the new placeholder date set by the coroner.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said via Sky News: "Progress has been positive but the current conflict in the country has presented increased risks and challenges in relation to the extradition."

Conflict in the country is largely down to the UK and allied government involvement in overthrowing Muammar Gaddafi, which ironically, is also when the Home Office permitted the likes of Salman, Hashem and other Libyans to travel to the region when many should have faced counter-terrorism control orders.

From joker to peacemaker? Zelensky needs to follow his words with actions to end Ukraine's conflict

Zelenksy

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenksy said at his inauguration ceremony this week that his first priority would be ending the nearly five-year war in the Donbass region. The value of his words will be seen soon enough.

For the past five years, the mainly Russian-speaking people in eastern Ukraine have had to endure bombardments and sniper attack from military forces loyal to the regime that seized power in Kiev in February 2014. The self-declared independent republics of Donetsk and Lugansk refused to recognize the Kiev authorities, due to the latter's affiliation with Neo-Nazi ideology and rabid Russophobia.

The landslide election of Zelensky in April was a stunning repudiation by Ukrainians of the "war party" that has dominated Kiev's politics since 2014. The former president, Petro Poroshenko, came to be despised for his relentless warmongering and hostility towards the Russian-speaking east of the country, as well as his constant belligerence towards neighboring Russia.
