Powerful people make money off Russophobia

The Guardian carried a very strange piece yesterday under the heading "Stamps celebrating Ukrainian resistance in pictures". This was the first image shown:

Stamps celebrating Ukrainian resistance
The Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) was, without any shadow of a doubt, responsible for the slaughter of at least 200,000 Polish civilians; they liquidated whole Polish communities in Volhynia and Galicia, including the women and children. The current Polish government, which is as anti-Russian and pro-NATO as they come, nevertheless has declared this a genocide. It certainly was an extremely brutal ethnic cleansing. There is no doubt either that at times between 1942 and 1944 the UPA collaborated with the Nazis and collaborated in the destruction of Jews and Gypsies. It is simplistic to describe the UPA as fascist or an extension of the Nazi regime; at times they fought the Nazis, though they collaborated more often. There is a real sense in which they operated at the level of medieval peasants, simply seizing local opportunities to exterminate rural populations and seize their land and assets, be they Polish, Jew or Gypsy. But on balance any reasonable person would have to conclude that the UPA was an utterly deplorable phenomenon. To publish a celebration of it, disguised as a graphic art piece, without any of this context, is no more defensible than a display of Nazi art with no context.

Syrian air defenses have engaged incoming "hostile targets" in the capital city of Damascus, state media reported. Footage circulating online shows explosions in the skies above the city. Damascus came under an apparent missile strike late on Monday. Sirens were heard across the city, while air defense systems intercepted incoming projectiles.

The missiles flew from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights region, Syrian state media reported, pinning the blame for the attack on Tel Aviv.

Israeli strikes in Syria: Iran reveals extent of losses & warns Tel Aviv

Brigadier-General Abu Al-Fadl Shukarji Iran

Iranian Armed Forces' spokesman Brigadier General Abu Al-Fadl Shukarji has warned Zionists against continuing their lies about targeting Iranian sites in Syria.

Brigadier Shikarji added that only 8 Iranian advisers have found martyrdom under Israeli strikes during the 9 years of their legal presence in Syria, while stressing that Iranian forces have retaliated to Zionist attacks: he pointed out that when an Iranian adviser found martyrdom under Zionist fire 6 years ago, the Resistance retaliated by killing 5 Zionist soldiers in Palestine.

Brigadier Shikarji added that when the Zionists targeted the T-4 base in Syria, the Resistance responded by targeting their bases in the Golan with 50 missiles and shells.

Media aghast Trump won't pledge to 'accept' 2020 election result - as Hillary yet to admit her 2016 loss was legit

The mainstream media is once again in a flutter that Donald Trump won't unconditionally vow to accept the result of the 2020 election, even as his vanquished 2016 opponent continues to call him an "illegitimate" president.

"I have to see. Look...I have to see," Trump told Chris Wallace in a Fox News interview aired Sunday morning. "No, I'm not going to just say yes. I'm not going to say no, and I didn't last time, either."

Trump's comments stirred a troubled reaction by the Associated Press, which reported that the president was going back to his "insurgent playbook of four years ago," when he made a similar comment in the final debate before the 2016 election. His answer also seemed to corroborate months of media speculation that Trump might refuse to accept defeat to Democrat challenger Joe Biden.

"It is remarkable that a sitting president would express less than complete confidence in the American democracy's electoral process," the AP said.

The mainstream media have apparently not found it remarkable that nearly four years on from the last presidential election, Trump's opponent, Hillary Clinton, still hasn't acknowledged the result as valid. Although she officially conceded her loss on election night, she has said repeatedly that the presidency was stolen from her.

Comment: Trump also won the popular vote in 2016, a fact manipulated and suppressed. The only thing that counts is an accurate count -- and then maybe the recount.

UK government admits Test and Trace is unlawful

Track&Trace

The UK Government has been forced to admit they deployed the COVID-19 Test and Trace programme unlawfully without a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA), following a legal challenge from privacy campaigning organisation, Open Rights Group (ORG). The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) made its admission after ORG threatened to take the Government to court unless it agreed to immediately conduct a DPIA.

The admission that the Test and Trace was deployed without a DPIA and that there is still no DPIA in place now, means that the Government's entire Test & Trace programme has been operating unlawfully since its launch on 28th May 2020.

Comment: It ultimately comes down to which is more enforceable: Legality of the monitor or the integrity of the people.

Centrist Kasich's rumored DNC appearance is last straw for Democrats already pushed to limit by Biden

Ohio Republican ex-governor John Kasich is expected to speak at the Democratic National Convention in support of nominee Joe Biden, presumably hoping to lure disaffected Trump voters - but some Dems have had enough.

Kasich, whose corporate-friendly centrism makes him an ideally noncontroversial figure (at least on the surface) for cross-partisan outreach, was recently approached by the Democratic Party and has agreed to speak at the convention next month, according to a source involved in the matter who spoke to the AP on Monday.

While Biden's campaign declined to confirm whether it specifically reached out to Kasich, a representative admitted to working with Republicans, claiming Biden had a long history of "being able to work across the aisle," and bringing anti-Trump GOPers into the tent was totally in character.

But Kasich's white-bread image masks a rather more controversial political record, and Democrats - many of whom have already been asked to compromise their principles to back the problematic Biden - aren't necessarily lining up to shake the hand of the failed 2016 presidential candidate turned never-Trumper.

Comment: Shocker: Without real and competent leaders, 'we the people' may be forced to take back responsibility and govern ourselves. Do we remember how?

Joe Biden calls Arizona 'an important city' in 2020 election

Presumptive Democrat nominee for president Joe Biden told an Arizona TV station he thinks it's "an important city" in the 2020 election.

"Arizona is very much in play in 2020, so we appreciate you taking some time and talk to the people of our state," anchor Mark Curtis said.

"Oh, you're an important city. You guys are going through hell right now, are ya?" Biden responded.

"We really are with the pandemic," Curtis said.

Biden then said Curtis was "breaking up a little bit" and the candidate was having trouble hearing him.

Biden made the blunder just moments into an appearance on NBC 12:

Why Brexit really was anything but a Russian revolution

Putin billboard
© Reuters/Peter NichollsLondon billboard spoof of Putin's 'role' in Brexit
THE LONG delayed report on Russian interference into UK politics from the Intelligence and Security parliamentary committee is due to be published this week. I've no doubt, however, that some commentators will be very disappointed. A bit like 'Who shot JFK?' there will be lots of conjecture, lots of smoke - but no real fire. I can't see it revealing anything concrete.

The background to the report is clear. Russian interference in Brexit has become a mythical mantra for hardcore Remainers as they sought to try to discredit the result in any way they could.

The narrative that the Russians were behind the victory of Donald Trump in 2016 and Brexit gained currency on both sides of the pond.

Comment: The West just can't seem to give it up! It is so much easier to have a convenient 'other' to blame. Such a waste of energy that could have been put to use addressing their problems. It doesn't take a genius to see the US and UK are undermining themselves and both the threat and ineptitude is within.

Off the deep end? Former DNC chairman Dean calls for arrest and jail time for DHS chief amid Portland riots

smoke grenade

In the competition among prominent Democrats to see who can show the most outrage over the role of federal law enforcement in trying to help quell anarchist riots in Portland, former party chairman Howard Dean may be the winner.

After Oregon's largest city was subjected to its 50th straight night of violent unrest, Dean focused his ire on acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief Chad Wolf. "This guy needs to be arrested, prosecuted and, if convicted, imprisoned for a very long time," Dean tweeted on Saturday.

Comment: Society allowed to run amok! Trump rebukes Portland's leadership for: dodging accountability, taking umbrage with federal agencies doing their jobs, and permitting protesters to continue on their tirade of destruction. Time for tough love with Portland's leadership who should have been doing the same regarding the protesters.
Trump wrote on Twitter:
"We are trying to help Portland, not hurt it. Their leadership has, for months, lost control of the anarchists and agitators. They are missing in action. We must protect Federal property, AND OUR PEOPLE. These were not merely protesters, these are the real deal!"
His remarks came just hours after a mob broke into the office of the Portland police union and caused a small fire to the building's interior. Officers were able to extinguish the blaze and disperse the crowd.

Mayor Ted Wheeler banned federal officers from sharing headquarters with city police after personnel from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other agencies were accused of seizing and detaining protesters without probable cause.

Governor Kate Brown and Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley have also criticized federal agents operating in the city and have called for a probe into their tactics.

Congress critter 'Mad' Maxine harasses LA cops who stop black motorist

maxine waters traffic stop

California Congresswoman Maxine Waters appears on video posted on social media jumping out of her SUV to the aid of a black motorist who was pulled over by cops during a traffic stop in Los Angeles this weekend.

The black Democrat told the person filming her that the cops had 'stopped a brother,' and that she was going to check on the situation.

Waters claims that the deputies threatened her with a ticket for pulling over the way she did.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Office later told DailyMail.com that the motorist had been pulled over as part of a burglary investigation.
