Comment: Putin's speech at the Valdai conference in Sochi last week is getting a lot of coverage, both in the alternative news sphere, and the Russophobic den of lies that is the corporate western mainstream presstitute media. And for good reason. You can read the full speech here, along with Paul Craig Roberts' commentary. See also:

Most people in the English-speaking parts of the world missed Putin's speech at the Valdai conference in Sochi a few days ago, and, chances are, those of you who have heard of the speech didn't get a chance to read it, and missed its importance. (For your convenience, I am pasting in the full transcript of his speech below.) Western media did their best to ignore it or to twist its meaning. Regardless of what you think or don't think of Putin (like the sun and the moon, he does not exist for you to cultivate an opinion) this is probably the most important political speech since Churchill's "Iron Curtain" speech of March 5, 1946.
In this speech, Putin abruptly changed the rules of the game. Previously, the game of international politics was played as follows: politicians made public pronouncements, for the sake of maintaining a pleasant fiction of national sovereignty, but they were strictly for show and had nothing to do with the substance of international politics; in the meantime, they engaged in secret back-room negotiations, in which the actual deals were hammered out. Previously, Putin tried to play this game, expecting only that Russia be treated as an equal. But these hopes have been dashed, and at this conference he declared the game to be over, explicitly violating Western taboo by speaking directly to the people over the heads of elite clans and political leaders.
The Russian blogger chipstone summarized the most salient points from Putin speech as follows:
1. Russia will no longer play games and engage in back-room negotiations over trifles. But Russia is prepared for serious conversations and agreements, if these are conducive to collective security, are based on fairness and take into account the interests of each side.
2. All systems of global collective security now lie in ruins. There are no longer any international security guarantees at all. And the entity that destroyed them has a name: The United States of America.
3. The builders of the New World Order have failed, having built a sand castle. Whether or not a new world order of any sort is to be built is not just Russia's decision, but it is a decision that will not be made without Russia.
4. Russia favors a conservative approach to introducing innovations into the social order, but is not opposed to investigating and discussing such innovations, to see if introducing any of them might be justified.
5. Russia has no intention of going fishing in the murky waters created by America's ever-expanding "empire of chaos," and has no interest in building a new empire of her own (this is unnecessary; Russia's challenges lie in developing her already vast territory). Neither is Russia willing to act as a savior of the world, as she had in the past.
6. Russia will not attempt to reformat the world in her own image, but neither will she allow anyone to reformat her in their image. Russia will not close herself off from the world, but anyone who tries to close her off from the world will be sure to reap a whirlwind.
7. Russia does not wish for the chaos to spread, does not want war, and has no intention of starting one. However, today Russia sees the outbreak of global war as almost inevitable, is prepared for it, and is continuing to prepare for it. Russia does not war - nor does she fear it.
8. Russia does not intend to take an active role in thwarting those who are still attempting to construct their New World Order - until their efforts start to impinge on Russia's key interests. Russia would prefer to stand by and watch them give themselves as many lumps as their poor heads can take. But those who manage to drag Russia into this process, through disregard for her interests, will be taught the true meaning of pain.
9. In her external, and, even more so, internal politics, Russia's power will rely not on the elites and their back-room dealing, but on the will of the people.
To these nine points I would like to add a tenth:
10. There is still a chance to construct a new world order that will avoid a world war. This new world order must of necessity include the United States - but can only do so on the same terms as everyone else: subject to international law and international agreements; refraining from all unilateral action; in full respect of the sovereignty of other nations.
To sum it all up: play-time is over. Children, put away your toys. Now is the time for the adults to make decisions. Russia is ready for this; is the world?

Around here (Minnesota), Gov. Mark Dayton has been idolized. He seems so nice.
Insiders, though, say he is a creep to the 'hired help'.
No doubt Putin is different is some way.
Politicians are politicians.
What MATTERS is that he is pushing against the nWo.
If Putin was indeed a jerk, his personal life has nothing to do with policy.
Complete opposite idea:
Obama is so nice and warm and friendly blabla.
But his policies stink- the globalists agenda.
So, I don't care he is nice or not in his personal life.
@Divide By Zero:
Your comment is good. I will attempt to address it below.

Biggest compliment for a celebrity in holland:
But he is so average still..
He says it as it is! Such a breath of hope and fresh air in the putrid lies, horrendous suffering and blatant disregard for international law we have been witnessing all over our globe.
Putin abruptly changed the rules of the game.
I hope all major countries listen and are brave enough to act with him.
All the Bear wants is to be left alone, kinda like mind your own business.
Wow, what a novel idea!
And that's usually the last thing they ever see in life. Yes, a novel idea indeed it is!! Good one.
They are a decent nation, as you will find on the Blue Planet.
They have something, though, that many miss: The Love of Mother Russia. They will defend thier ground against all comers and disturbers of thier peace.
In the early 60s, we were told about how the Russians were planning on nuking and bombing us.
So, we watched the skies fervently. After about a decade of this, it became clear that Russia had no intentions of ever coming to Nuke or bomb us. They never did. And when approached in a peer-to-peer fashion, as opposed to overlording bony finger-pointing, they gladly tore down that Wall.
The satellite nations that once comprised the Soviet Union were let go to do as they wished.
And the promise was made by the West that they would not recruit to add them to NATO or the EU.
And that is when it all went wrong. The promises were walked over.
The turning point, as the Bear sees it, is when the US tried to convert Georgia to the NATO court.
The seeds of mistrust and betrayal were planted, and now they are soon to bear fruit.
Putin compared the Kosovo and Crimea referendums:
"In Crimea, people held a referendum.
I would like to draw your attention to this. It was not by chance that we in Russia stated that there was a referendum. The decision to hold the referendum was made by the legitimate authority of Crimea – its Parliament, elected a few years ago under Ukrainian law prior to all these grave events. This legitimate body of authority declared a referendum, and then based on its results, they adopted a declaration of independence, just as Kosovo did, and turned to the Russian Federation with a request to accept Crimea into the Russian state.
In this connection I always recall what the sages of the past said. You may remember the wonderful saying: Whatever Jupiter is allowed, the Ox is not.
We cannot agree with such an approach. The ox may not be allowed something, but the bear will not even bother to ask permission. Here we consider it the master of the taiga, and I know for sure that it does not intend to move to any other climatic zones – it will not be comfortable there. However, it will not let anyone have its taiga either. I believe this is clear."
There's something bugging me here. Apparently Putin HAD to make that speech in order to show the world where Russia stands today. Other than that , it's just another speech. Words without any true value.
Maybe.
All the readers and the ownership of Sott should be very observant of Putin. Observant regardless of how one feels about him.
Putin has much political power. All political power is assembled through personal greed and vanity. Not only one's own greed and vanity, but that of others. That is the game. Vanity by the way, is the desire to 'make good' in appearances. Do you see? Actual good is beyond appearances. Vanity becomes only a consideration and not the end game as it is, in this sick environment of diseased and obsessed technocrats.
This applied to JFK, too. It applies to everyone. MLK, Gandhi are a little different, having gone through religious routes in appearance, but religion and politics are actually the same inside, now, in this world of hyper-information and communication. So the apparent differences are superficial or relatively shallow. All leaders are suspect and should remain suspect due to their preoccupations with vanity. Also called, 'public opinion'. Public opinion being controlled, DUH.
Putin may be doing some good. But he has assembled power and is in a rat's den. I would not fall in love with this man!
Better to love your neighbor.

How we 'feel' about him is informed through years of observation.
"Putin has much political power."
True.
"All political power is assembled through personal greed and vanity."
Not always true. Read Kahn's 'Caesar'.
"Vanity by the way, is the desire to 'make good' in appearances. Do you see?"
Yes, results must match appearances. Putin's Russia has an impressive track record.
"All leaders are suspect and should remain suspect due to their preoccupations with vanity."
Sure, which is why we kept an open mind about Putin for over a decade. The picture only came into sharper focus with the regime-change in Kiev this past February. Here's the kind of 'both sides to every argument' stuff we were publishing just a year ago: [Link]
"All the readers and the ownership of Sott should be very observant of Putin. Observant regardless of how one feels about him."
That would be easy if not for head-architecture problems.
A lot of SOTTies are 'unconscious christians'. I don't mean that they're trying to be christians, I mean they're unaware of what they've inherited, and when I say 'christians' I don't mean it in the love-the-one-yer-with sense, I mean it in the worst sense, i.e. skulls crammed with the inherited breeze-blocks of 2000 years of judaeo-christian headcheese propped up by flying buttresses brought forth into the internet age and distinguished by the following characteristics:
Self-negating reliance on an external redeemer (Jesus, Putin, Caesar, Hitler, God, whoever).
Binary worldview.
Preoccupation with sin and punishment.
The belief that 'judgement day' is almost in sight.
Excessive puritanism.
Which is pretty much just a template for 'more West'.
"Putin has much political power. All political power is assembled through personal greed and vanity. "
All? That's a binary christian view. Who on this planet is not, to one degree or another, a political animal?
"Power corrupts," I suppose.
And poverty doesn't?
In a different setting, your comment might have sparked a conversation about 'pragmatism and conscience'. I'm open minded about Putin. It seems unlikely someone would join The KGB 'cause they wanted to make the world a better place, though stranger things have happened. I can't remember who said it about the Sixties but "If the hippies really wanted to change the system they would join the police", was probably on the money.
"Not only one's own greed and vanity, but that of others. That is the game. Vanity by the way, is the desire to 'make good' in appearances.
To one degree or another, sure, but appearances are a part of life. We can't say they aren't, or shouldn't be. Your post creates an appearance. So does mine. You want your post to have a good appearance so you can get your point over well, no?

"Trust no one. Not even yourself" - Gurdjieff.
"Putin may be doing some good."
I think so, but all we've got to go on is the binary from Russian media "Putin is a saint", and Western media "Putin is a devil".
"Better to love your neighbour."
Better to know your neighbour first. Mine are all cockneys. I wouldn't say I loved them but we have jovial relations.
lot's of bla bla and not a single pragmatic view:
Would any of you go and live in Russia? When you do call me and say again how wonderful Putin is! :))
No matter how hard he tries, Superstardem will Elude him.
And neither will Russia ever be a Global player.
They need to speak English..No one can understand them...Sowwy Vlad
"Russia does not intend to take an active role in thwarting those who are still attempting to construct their New World Order - until their efforts start to impinge on Russia's key interests."
That very act of attempting to construct a new world order impinges on everyone else's interests - not only russia.
thats a contradictory statement.
