mmmmmmmmmmmm
Roslyn, a powerful Category 3 hurricane, was moving across west-central Mexico on Sunday, dumping a life-threatening storm surge with damaging winds in its path, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

Rosyln, which was downgraded from Category 4 since Saturday, hit land at 5:20 a.m. local time (1120 GMT) near Santa Cruz in northern Nayarit, the NHC said, a Pacific coastal state home to popular tourist beaches like Sayulita and Punta Mita.

By late morning, maximum sustained winds decreased to near 90 mph (150 km) with stronger gusts. Rapid weakening was expected as the hurricane moved farther inland, the NHC said.

Video footage showed flooded streets and palm trees swaying in strong winds as Roslyn touched down in Nayarit.

At least 909,000 people have been affected by persistent floods in various parts of South Sudan, recent estimates from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) shows.

"These floods have killed livestock and destroyed crops, washed away roads and bridges, destroyed homes, schools and health facilities, and submerged boreholes and latrines, contaminating springs and posing risks of waterborne diseases," OCHA noted last week.

In Unity State, for instance, rising water levels has reportedly threatened two camps for the displaced people and a UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) base with flooding.

Unusually heavy rainy season and dam discharges destroy farmland and roads in most states, says government

More than 600 people have died and 1.3mn have been displaced from their homes in flooding that has hit 33 of Nigeria's 36 states and the capital Abuja, government officials have said.

The government said an unusually heavy rainy season aggravated by climate change and the discharge of excess water from a dam caused the severe flooding, adding that some states and local governments did not heed warnings to make bigger preparations to assist people in the worst affected areas.

Sadiya Umar Farouq, the humanitarian affairs and disaster management minister, said more than 108,000 hectares of farmland have been submerged, and critical infrastructure such as roads have been destroyed. More than 200,000 homes have also been partially or completely destroyed. Several rice-producing states in northern and central Nigeria are among the worst affected, raising concerns about shortages at a time when annual food inflation has hit 23 per cent.
