The Twin Cities metro is waking up to a fresh little coating of snow on our cooler grassy surfaces Wednesday, while parts of northern Minnesota saw over a foot of snow.
The rain rolled in by the latter part of the morning and hung around all day and much of the night before switching to some flakes for a while early Wednesday. Much of the area has received more than three quarters of an inch of rain with MSP Airport now just shy of an inch. Some spots just west and south of the Twin Cities have seen as much as an inch and a quarter.
Monday was a tough travel day on the eastern plains of Colorado as a wind-driven snow created slick roads and white-out conditions at times. Some places along Interstate 70 near the Kansas state line reported more than a foot of snow.
Heavy snow also fell in parts of southern Colorado in the vicinity of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Travel was difficult along Interstate 25 between Pueblo and the New Mexico state line for several hours.

Colorado authorities say a backcountry skier has been killed in an avalanche in the Buffalo Pass area northeast of Steamboat Springs.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) says a second skier was able to reach his companion, who had been swept up against a tree and wasn't breathing.
The Routt County Sheriff's Office said man was able to call 911. The man performed CPR for an hour until help arrived. He was airlifted by helicopter.
On Sunday, the sheriff's office confirmed the man's identity as 49-year-old Andrew Hyde of Steamboat Springs.
Ten people were injured in a 17-car pileup on a snowy expressway connecting Seoul and the eastern coastal town of Yangyang, Saturday.
With over 80 centimeters of unseasonable snow dumped on the area Saturday, the multi-vehicle crash occurred at 8:33 a.m. on the eastbound side of the Seoul-Yangyang Expressway near a tunnel in Yangyang, some 215 kilometers east of the capital.
A 29-year-old Telluride man died in an avalanche in the Poverty Gulch area Thursday, according to the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office.
The avalanche happened south of Trout Lake, about five miles southwest of the town of Ophir, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).
Around 3 p.m., Telluride Helitrax, a local heli-ski outfitter, was flying in the Trout Lake area and spotted evidence of an avalanche. The crew saw a single set of tracks going into the slide area but none coming out, the sheriff's office said.
A search and rescue mission was launched while Helitrax began an aerial beacon search. The sheriff's office said the Helitrax crew detected a signal and landed their helicopter. They then found a snowboarder who had been buried in the debris. He was under two meters of snow, according to the CAIC.
The storm that has brought snow to much of the eastern half of Colorado Wednesday into Thursday has dropped more than a foot of snow in some areas, and light snow is expected to continue into Thursday afternoon.
The foothills have seen the most snow in this storm, while we've seen around 2-5 inches around the metro area.

A new cold wave has brought the country under its grip, disrupting life, forcing schools to close and provinces being issued weather alerts.
Some 17 out of Turkey's all 81 provinces have canceled in-person education until March 21 due to heavy snowfall, including Turkey's largest metropolis Istanbul, which has been hit by a third snow wave in the last three months.
The Turkish State Meteorological Service has declared a "yellow alert" for some 26 provinces and an "orange alert" for eight cities.
The temperatures will decrease by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius across the country at the weekend, the service said in a statement on March 18.
Beijing was hit by heavy snow on Friday, with blizzards in part of the capital, while the peak daytime temperature stood at just 2.5 degrees Celsius, the local meteorological authorities said.
The snowfall is expected to linger till midnight and visibility in most of the city could drop below 1,000 meters, said the Beijing Meteorological Service.
As of 6 p.m. Friday, the city had launched a blue alert for heavy snow, and yellow alerts for road icing and thick fog.

The Carbon County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) has identified the person who died in an avalanche while snowmobiling in the Sierra Madre mountains on Saturday as Jon P. LaFramboise, 58, of Rapid City, South Dakota.
LaFramboise and another person had been snowmobiling near Hog Park when the avalanche occurred on Saturday. CCSO says it was notified by the other snowmobiler at around 1 p.m. Saturday with the person reporting they had attempted CPR on LaFramboise but had been unable to detect a pulse and noticed he wasn't breathing.
CCSO Deputy Patrick Patterson responded to the call and activated search and rescue units out of Saratoga, Ryan Park and Encampment. The Saratoga team was asked to bring a snowcat.
