An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck the Mindoro region of the Philippines, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said on Friday. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 144 km (89 miles), EMSC said.

The earthquake, which was also felt in the capital region of Manila, also registered at magnitude 6.3 at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The earthquake centre was traced at Calatagan in Batangas province, according to an initial report from Phivolcs, which said it did not expect damage but warned of aftershocks.

It issued no tsunami warning after the earthquake.

Kilauea volcano has erupted on Hawaii's Big Island, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The eruption began late on Sunday within the Halema'uma'u crater, shortly after 9.30pm local time.

Observers at the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) noticed the eruption started within the crater at Kīlauea's summit, according to the USGS, who was in contact with the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake was reported in the area shortly after the eruption began, according to news outlets.

Adapt 2030 Ice Age Report: Antarctica cycle, Sahara winter storm and the procession shift

Scientists say the seismic activity in Antarctica since the end of August is unusual.
Scientists say the seismic activity in Antarctica since the end of August is unusual.
As we shift signs from Pisces to Aquarius in the procession of the equinox, a quickening of energies is expected which would explain the 30,000 earthquakes in Antarctica a 20X increase. Record snows are blanketing the N. Hemisphere leaving forecasters shocked at the depths and speed of accumulations.

30,000 tremors have rocked Antarctica since the end of August, scientists say

Scientists at the University of Chile record the spike in seismic activity - including one strong quake of magnitude 6.

More than 30,000 tremors have rocked Antarctica since the end of August, according to new research.

Scientists at the University of Chile recorded the spike in seismic activity while studying the remote icy continent.

The university's National Seismological Centre said the small quakes - including one stronger one of magnitude 6 - were detected in the Bransfield Strait.

This is a 60-mile wide ocean channel between the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Several tectonic plates and microplates meet near the strait, leading to frequent rumbling - but the past three months have been unusual, researchers said.
