Sea temperatures at the Great Barrier Reef haven't increased in 150 years, newly uncovered data show

The Great Barrier Reef in Australia
Fauna in the Great Barrier Reef
This is the latest piece by freelance journalist Chris Morrison, who we've just appointed our Environment Editor. Chris started in financial journalism in the late 1970s and for nearly 20 years ran a company - Evandale Publishing - that he set up himself and eventually sold.

An 1871 dataset of sea temperatures across the Great Barrier Reef in Australia has been compared to recent measurements logged at the same reef areas. No differences in temperature were found by Dr. Bill Johnson, leading him to conclude:
"Alarming claims that the East Australian Current has warmed due to global warming are therefore without foundation."
The 1871 temperatures were taken by the SS Governor Blackall steamship on a voyage around the Australian east coast to observe a total eclipse of the sun in the north of the continent. Hourly measurements were made between 6am and 6pm every day in the voyage from Port Stanley, north of Sydney, to Cape York and repeated on the journey back. Dr. Johnson, a former research scientist at the New South Wales Department of Natural Resources, allowed for the considerable seasonal variations in temperature across the reef but concluded that nothing much had changed. He said there was no evidence that the system regulating temperature had broken down "or is likely to break down in the future".

Comment: They are destroying the corals from the Great Barrier Reef, so they can make money from that, and then they are using taxpayers money to replant the same corals. You can get some crumbs from their multi- billion business only if you agree to believe and promote their lies like the safety and efficiency of vaccination and human caused climate change.

They are like the cult of parasites, recruiting member by offering them money and power in exchange for promotion of their sick agenda.

This is a excellent example how much real science is included in the global warming dogma.

100,000 killed by lightning in the 52 years between 1967 and 2019 in India as number of strikes rise sharply

India recorded more than 18 million lightning strikes between April 2020 and March 2021.
India recorded more than 18 million lightning strikes between April 2020 and March 2021.
Last March, four gardeners working in a condominium in Gurgaon, a suburb near the Indian capital, Delhi, took shelter under a tree during a downpour.

Within minutes, an orange flash raced down the trunk followed by pealing thunder. Lightning usually lasts under a second. A typical lightning flash measures about 300 million volts and 30,000 amps - enough to kill. It can cause the air around it to heat up to temperatures that are five times than that on the surface of the sun.

The four men fell to the ground. One of them died, while the others survived with burns.

"I don't remember what happened to me and how it happened. In a matter of seconds, everything was destroyed," one of the survivors told a newspaper.

His colleague was one of the more than 2,500 Indians who lose their lives to lightning every year.

Lightning strikes have killed more than 100,000 people in the country between 1967 and 2019, according to official data. This is more than a third of fatalities caused by natural hazards during this period. Survivors might have to live with symptoms such as weakness, dizziness and memory loss.

As many as 121 people have now lost their lives in Madagascar since Tropical Cyclone Batsirai swept over the country from 05 February 2022.

Batsirai made landfall near Mananjary as a category 3 storm on 05 February 2022. Sustained winds of 165 km/h and gusts up to 230 km/h caused catastrophic damage. The wind damage was particularly severe around Mananjary City, where homes were flattened and roofs ripped off buildings.

Damage to infrastructure, roads and bridges made some areas inaccessible for days after the storm. Local authorities have since been able to carry out fuller damage assessments, allowing a clearer picture of the extent of the damage. Much of the initial damage was caused by the powerful winds. Updated damage assessments along with satellite images also show major flooding, in particular in Haute Matsiatra, Vatovavy and Fitovinany Regions.
