Monsoon arrived in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, flooding roads and leaving commuters stranded within mere hours.

Water-logging led to traffic snarls in several parts of the city while vehicles were diverted in some areas. And as many cheered the welcome dip in temperatures, others marveled at the speed with which the city had become inundated.

"It's literally the first day!" lamented one user.

"Literally first hour. We walked into a store. Walked out an hour later. And this. This. Is. On. A. Flyover. How do you flood a flyover??," asked another.

He shared a a video snippet taken while travelling along the BKC connector in the city.

In a dramatic video from Haryana's Panchkula, a woman was seen rescued by the locals under extraordinary circumstances after the water levels in Ghaggar river rose suddenly and extremely strong tides swept the car and the woman.

The woman, who according to reports had gone to a nearby temple, was returning back from the temple and had sat inside her car when the ferocious flood current came raging after sudden rise in water-levels.

South China provinces told to brace for flooding as 16 rivers surpass warning lines

China's Ministry of Water Resources said Saturday that 16 rivers in the southern part of the country had seen their water levels surpass warning lines due to the recent rainfalls.

These rivers are mostly tributaries of major regional rivers flowing through Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi, and Yunnan.

The heavy rain is expected to last till Sunday, pushing water levels to warning lines in certain rivers in the Pearl River basin and near the Dongting and Poyang lakes, the ministry said.

A woman was killed and a man was left in critical condition from a dog attack in Sierra Vista on Friday morning, according to the Sierra Vista Police Department.

Officers responded to the area after reports of a dog attack in the alley between Meadowlark Drive and Calle Del Norte. When officers arrived at the area, they found a dog attacking a man, later identified as Sam Sanches Jr., 53, in the backyard of a house on Calle Del Norte. Officers then killed the dog and provided first aid before emergency medical assistance arrived, according to a police news release.

Sanches was taken to Banner Medical Center where he remained in critical condition from his injuries, according to the news release.

The epicenter, with a depth of 7.087 km, was initially determined to be at 24.0318 degrees south latitude and 175.6262 degrees west longitude.

Tornado hits Pampanga, Philippines

A tornado wreaked havoc in Bacolor, Pampanga on Thursday, damaging several homes, establishments, and a church, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday.

Based on NDRRMC's initial report, the tornado occurred in Barangay Cabalantian, particularly in Sitio Banlic and Cabalantian Church area at 5:30 p.m. as they experienced heavy rains and thunderstorms.

"Some homes were reported with minor damage, detached power lines, and fallen trees," the NDRRMC said.

According to the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3), one person sustained a minor injury and was brought to Makabali Hospital for medical treatment.

At least 32 structures, including 26 houses, five business establishments, and a church, were damaged due to the reported tornado, the PRO3 said.

Sean Hazelden was recuperating after an icy morning swim when a tiny figure emerged from the surf and staggered up the beach.

It took one step, and another, and fell onto its face.

The Esperance resident rushed over, scooping up the skeletal traveller in his arms.

"When I went over to pick it up it was really emaciated," he said.

The black-and-white bird, crowned with a flourish of yellow feathers over each eye, was a Fiordland crested penguin, one of the world's rarest penguin species.

The emaciated penguin had likely been at sea since February or March, and should have been almost 4,000 kilometres away on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island, ready for breeding season.

Scientists believe that a killer whale pod in North sea may have been educated by the Mediterranean orca Gladis.

A killer whale has repeatedly rammed a yacht off the coast of Scotland, it has emerged, in an attack reminiscent of those seen 3,000 miles further south near Gibraltar.

The orca is said to have made contact with a small boat off the Shetland coast in the North sea as a solo sailor embarked on a trip from Lerwick to Bergen, Norway.

Our sister site, BurlingtonToday, has confirmed that one of the victims of a violent dog attack at a home on Caplan Crescent earlier this month has died of their injuries.

According to published media reports the woman, who was taken to hospital in critical condition on June 6, passed away 10 days later.

"I can confirm that the victim in the hospital tragically passed away on June 16," said Halton Regional Police media relations officer Steve Elms in an email, noting that the HRPS is not in a position to identify the victim.

"There are no criminal elements to this investigation," he added. "Pending any new information, our involvement at this point is minimal."

A second resident of the home sustained serious injuries in the attack, while a neighbour who tried to help was not hurt. Police tried to subdue the dog using a taser, but ultimately shot and killed it to stop the attack.
