Tropical storm Arthur to hit Nova Scotia, Canada with damaging winds, flooding

Arthur is expected to slam into Nova Scotia with strong winds, heavy rain and rough seas on Saturday.

Arthur will bring damaging wind gusts, heavy rain and pounding surf to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Winds will be strong enough to knock down trees, produce power outages and cause minor property damage, especially along the coast.

Apollo astronaut says: Man-made global warming hypothesis is the 'biggest fraud in the field of science'

Climate alarmism is "the biggest fraud in the field of science" and the 97% consensus claim is nonsensical, Apollo 7 astronaut Walter Cunningham tells MRCTV in a preview of his presentation at the upcoming Heartland Institute climate conference, July 7-9.

"Since about 2000, I looked farther and farther into it," Col. Cunningham (USMC, Ret.) tells MRCTV in an exclusive interview. "I found that not one of the claims that the alarmists were making out there had any bearings, whatsoever. And, so, it was kind of a no-brainer to come to the conclusion."

Cunningham rejects the notion of man-made climate, not only as fact - but also as even qualifying as an actual "theory":

"In the media, it was being called a theory. Obviously, they didn't know what it means to be a theory."

"If we go back to the warmist hypothesis - not a theory, but, a hypothesis- they've been saying from the very beginning that carbon dioxide levels are abnormally high, that higher levels of carbon dioxide are bad for humans, and they thought warmer temperatures are bad for our world, and they thought we were able to override natural forces to control the earth's temperature. So, as I've looked into those, that's the problem that I've found, because I didn't find any of those to be correct - and, they certainly were not a theory, it was just their guess at what they wanted to see in the data they were looking at."

Comment: So, if the proponents of man-made global warming have been proven incorrect and are exposed as frauds, is something else, something much bigger, happening on our planet? In times past, people understood that the human mind and states of collective human experience influence cosmic and earthly phenomena. Historical records reveal a strong correlation between periods of authoritarian oppression with catastrophic and cosmically-induced natural disasters. Huge dust storm envelops Phoenix, Arizona

Image
While residents on the east coast of the United States are dealing with Hurricane Arthur, residents of Phoenix, Arizona, were battling another type of storm on Thursday - a dust storm.

The massive wall of dust swept across the city around 7:30 p.m., grounding flights at the city's main airport.

Dust storms aren't unusual for the region and are part of the monsoon season.

Monsoons are reversals of wind patterns over a geographic area and happen seasonally. Generally, they produce heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The monsoon season in the U.S. is much less severe than those in India and Southeast Asia. Sometimes these thunderstorms can produce downbursts of air and push out wind ahead of it which sweeps across the drier land, creating these dust storms. Also known as "haboobs," these storms can last for hours.

According to the National Weather Service, Phoenix generally receives one to three dust storms a season.

Lightning storm creates terrifying nuclear bomb-style mushroom cloud above Sardinia

Image
Blast: A lightning storm lights up the skies above southern Sardinia creating the impression of a nuclear mushroom cloud
Residents of the normally-sunny island of Sardinia could have been forgiven for running for the hills when this terrifying mushroom cloud appeared in the skies during an intense thunderstorm.

But while it may look like the aftermath of a nuclear explosion the awesome cloud was a purely natural phenomenon - a giant storm cell lit up from the inside by a series of lightning bolts.

The stunning set of photographs was taken by 27-year-old photographer Stefano Garau who captured the incredible moment from the balcony of his house after noticing the storm moving in fast.

Mr Garau said: 'The photo is taken from my home, I was lucky to notice in time that the storm cell was throwing in that direction. I had time to do about 70 shots, the photo is taken with my faithful Nikon D700 with a Nikon 105mm VR lens.

Dead blue whale washes up on beach in New Zealand

WASHED UP: DOC marine ranger Bryan Williams with a dead blue whale on Tapuae Beach, near Okurukuru.
A large dead whale has washed up on a beach just south of New Plymouth.

The 20-25 metre long whale washed up on Tapuae Beach, near Okurukuru, and it is believed to be the largest species on earth, a blue whale.

Department of Conservation acting senior biodiversity ranger Callum Lilley said it's uncommon but not unusual for large whales to wash up along the coastline.

''There have been five dead blue whales washed up on the North Island's west coast between Wellington and Northland in the past five years, and a dead whale washed up on Waiinu Beach near Whanganui in 2011.''

* Some villagers blamed the snake for disappearance of young animals

A giant 25ft snake was beaten to death by Mexican villagers - who feared the creature was so big it could have swallowed a child.

Frightened residents also cut the head off the huge animal after it was spotted lying alongside a railway track.

Rail passengers raised the alarm after they saw the snake from their train as it pulled into the village of Benito Juarez, in a remote part of the southeast Mexican state of Tabasco.

Arthur expected to bring drenching rains, storm-force winds for 4th of July

Image

On Tuesday morning, the first tropical storm of Atlantic hurricane season was born. A 140-mile stretch of Florida's Atlantic coast is currently under a watch thanks to Tropical Storm Arthur.

However, the storm is expected to strengthen slightly and could bring some real fireworks to the Mid-Atlantic just in time for the Fourth of July. And by fireworks, we mean drenching rains and the potential for tropical storm-force winds from North Carolina's Outer Banks to the Chesapeake Bay area. There's even a chance Arthur could blossom into a full-fledged hurricane, albeit a weak Category 1 storm, though the strongest winds are likely going to stay out to sea.

The potential of Arthur is still enough to bring Fourth of July festivities to a halt for parts of the Eastern Seaboard. Check out the GIFs below to see if you should keep your beach chairs folded, barbecues covered and fireworks unignited.

Noctilucent outburst over Europe

Sky watchers in Europe are reporting an outburst of bright noctilucent clouds (NLCs). The display began at sunset on July 3rd, filling northern horizons with electric-blue ripples, swirls, and tendrils of light. Morten Ross sends this picture from Sandbukta, Norway:

"An incredibly bright and widespread display - from northern horizon to zenith!" says Ross. "This is only the third night of July and its already much better than last year." Similar reports have come from France, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, England, Estonia and Belgium.

Although most of the reports so far have come from Europe, the nights ahead could bring NLCs to North America as well. Monitor the realtime gallery for updates.

Dead Humpback whale found off Mull, Scotland

Image
Scotland's first full post-mortem of a humpback whale - found dead at Fishnish on Mull this week - was carried out yesterday by veterinary pathologists with the assistance of conservation charity Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust.

The seven-metre, eight-ton animal - believed to be the first humpback whale ever to strand on Mull - was discovered floating close to shore on Wednesday 25 June, and was craned out of the sea the following evening. The male calf had not recently been feeding and was probably still dependent on its mother.

Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust's Science and Strandings Officer Dr Conor Ryan, who is an expert on humpback whales, assisted with a post-mortem examination with veterinary pathologist Andrew Brownlow of Scottish Rural University College to establish the cause of death. Preliminary results from the examination were consistent with drowning, although the cause is unclear.

"This highly unusual and sad discovery is a reminder that Scotland's west coast waters are extremely special and host a great variety of marine species, including magnificent and iconic humpback whales - and that conservation action and research are vital for the protection of such remarkable animals," said Dr Ryan.
