Idaho Fish and Game officials confirmed a man was attacked by a bear near Elkins Resort Monday afternoon.

Phil Cooper with the Idaho Fish and Game said a man was jogging on the Kalispell Reeder Trail near the resort when he saw a black bear in the timer, but kept going. The jogger told Cooper he noticed the bear began to follow him, so he turned around to face the bear, put his hands up and shouted. He said the bear charged at him so he fell to the ground then the bear took a swipe at him.

Cooper said the jogger suffered lacerations to his lower leg but was not taken to the hospital. Cooper said Fish and Game brought out dogs in an attempt to locate the bear but were unsuccessful.

Wildlife officials do not know if it is the same bear responsible for the attack near the Priest Lake Visitor Center on July 4. They did say, however, that bear encounters are "unusual."

Animated map shows every earthquake for 15 years

earthquakes
© NOAACompilation of every earthquake around the world
The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released an animation last year that displays every recorded earthquake between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2015. Despite the fact that this video was released several months ago, it's a remarkable way to visualize Earth's plate boundaries and the dynamic changes in Earth's crust.

Can you pick out the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the collision of India with Eurasia, the building of the Andes? So much information is packed into one animation it's worth discussing what earthquakes tell us about global plate tectonics and mountain building.

The video is both color coded by earthquake depth and sized dependent on the magnitude. Hotter colors represent shallower earthquakes whereas cooler colors represent deeper earthquakes up to 800 km. The circles are sized based on magnitude but then shrink as to not obscure subsequent earthquakes. At the end of the video, there is a compilation of every earthquake in that 15-year time frame, earthquakes with magnitude larger than 6.5 and those with a magnitude larger than 8.

A winter like Nor'easter swept through the eastern USA specifically inundating the nations capital, Washington D.C. We find other anomalies in record breaking July snows in Russia and Finland, all time cold records broken in S.E Australia, Greenland @ -33C in July a new Northern Hemispheric cold record set, yes on Greenland. With US land temperature stations showing a downward trend, we get no days above 90F in South Bend Indiana, and a slew of other locations across the N.E USA. We are looking for atmospheric shifts, and we get "Jet Streaks" or atmospheric rivers with extreme deluges. Look for more cosmic ray increases.

'Powerful' kangaroo attacks 2 golfers at Gold Coast, Australia

Kangaroo
A woman who rescued a golfer under attack by a kangaroo in Australia ended up suffering a severe cut on her head after the marsupial turned on her.

Liya Chan was playing golf at the Hope Island Golf Course on the Gold Coast in Queensland when she saw a fellow golfer being attacked by a kangaroo and rushed to help him. However, the animal then attacked her, leaving Chan needing six stitches to heal deep lacerations to her head.

"I thought kangaroos are cute," she said. "I didn't realise they were so aggressive."

Chan said she had tried to kick the kangaroo away after it had attacked the other golfer, but she was surprised by how strong the marsupial was and in the end she was left defending herself with her golf club.

Endangered elephants and tigers are killing one person a day in India as humans move further into their habitat, according to new government figures.

But man is in turn killing a leopard a day as the man-animal tussle for space reaches new heights.

India has lost vast swathes of forests to urbanisation in recent decades, forcing animals into human-occupied zones.

According to the environment ministry, 1,144 people were killed in attacks across India in 1,143 days between April 2014 and May this year.

And there is no sign of the toll being cut.

The ministry said 345 tigers and 84 elephants were killed in the same period, mostly in poacher attacks as the mammals are hunted for their tusks
