Snowing for the 3rd day in the past 5, atop Pikes Peak, Colorado

Pikes Peak Cam
Pikes Peak
This past weekend, we had a couple slushy inches of the white stuff, with several viewers noting and photographing it and sending it in...yes, snow atop "America's Mountain." And today, more fresh snowfall! Now, it is not rare for snow to fall atop Pikes Peak every month of the calendar year, but it gets your attention that winter snow can't be too far off.

By the way, the earliest snow on record for Springs is September 2nd, and a week later (Sept 10) for Pueblo. While we don't foresee any opportunity for snow in the lower elevations for at least the next 3 weeks, views like this one happen now, and become more and more likely, as we go through September!

While much of the country is still in the dog days of summer one Colorado has jumped a few seasons forward.

Video taken in Fairplay, Colorado shows the town covered in snowfall more — than 100 days until winter begins.

According to the National Weather Service, snow was measured at a depth of two inches on Wednesday at Hoosier Pass, a mountain pass located in the Mosquito Range.

It's not that shocking that the area would see snowfall — it's located at an elevation of 11,000 feet.

Farmers have been warned their livestock is being attacked by feral pigs, wild boars, foxes and dingoes as the wild animals are starved by the drought.

Central Tablelands Local Land Services (CTLLS) in is offering services for farmers in and around the NSW towns of Oberon, Mudgee and Cowra to tackle the predators as spring begins.

Senior biosecurity officer Alistair Gordon-Smith said it's important that farmers start planning their bait before the mating season kicks off.

'It's been a dry, hard winter and feral pigs and wild dogs are looking for food for spring litters of piglets and pups,' he said.

'Newborn calves and lambs are extremely vulnerable to pest predators, so it's timely for landholders to start planning their baiting regime now.'

Charges for the service have also been dropped to assist all farmers with accessing bait-handling certification.

PIT BULL ATTACK
A woman was mauled to death by a pit bull in Maryland just two weeks after she adopted the dog, according to officials.

Howard County police said they were called to a home on Tamar Drive in Columbia at about 7:20 p.m. on Monday.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said 64-year-old Robin Conway was found dead in her backyard. Authorities said Conway was mauled by a pit bull she had just adopted two weeks prior.

"My sister was an animal person. My sister was a caring person. When we went to make service arrangements, the person said, 'wow, she had hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds of friends,'" Conway's sister Susan LeClair told FOX 5. "Robin gave her time and gave herself to the animals. She was wonderful."

Meteorological agency warns Typhoon Jebi could trigger landslides and flooding

Japan is bracing for flooding and landslides after what could be the strongest typhoon to hit the country in a quarter of a century made landfall on Tuesday.

Evacuation advisories were issued for more than 300,000 people as the wind and rain from Typhoon Jebi began to intensify on Tuesday afternoon. Most of those advised to leave their homes and head to 1,500 temporary shelters were in the western port city of Kobe.

The meteorological agency said in a televised warning the system could trigger violent winds, landslides and flooding in the southern and southwestern parts of the archipelago, as well as high tides, lightning and tornadoes.

The prime minister, Shinzo Abe, urged residents to "evacuate early" and cancelled a planned trip to Kyushu in Japan's south-west to oversee the government's response.

Television footage showed waves pounding the coastline amid warnings of high tides later in the day.

While the typhoon is not expected to make a direct hit on Tokyo, its path will take it over the cities of Osaka and Kyoto before it heads out to sea, according to the meteorological agency.

Comment: UPDATE: The Independent reports:
At least six people have died and more than 120 were injured amid strong winds and heavy rain after typhoon Jebi made landfall in Japan.

More than one million people were ordered to evacuate and nearly 800 flights were cancelled as the powerful storm hit the country with winds of up to 129mph (208km/h).

Jebi, whose name means "swallow" in Korean, was briefly classed as a super typhoon.

In the hard-hit city of Osaka, high seas have poured into Kansai International Airport, flooding one of its two runways and cargo storage facilities and forcing the airport to shut down.

Wind gusts of up to 129mph were recorded in one part of Shikoku, the smallest main island, with forecasts for gusts as high as 135mph (216km/h).

Typhoon Jebi caused a fuel tanker weighing more than 2,500 tonnes to crash into the bridge connecting Izumisano City to a nearby airport. No one was injured in the incident.

UPDATE: BBC on 5th Sept. reports:
At least 10 people have been killed by Typhoon Jebi, the worst storm to hit Japan in 25 years.

Jebi left a trail of destruction across the west of the country, hitting major cities like Kyoto and Osaka.

Flights, trains and ferries were cancelled but thousands of passengers stranded at Osaka's international airport have since been evacuated.

As the winds slow down and move north, people are being urged to stay alert for landslides and floods.

At least 300 people have been injured as a result of the typhoon, according to government spokesman Yoshihide Suga.

As of Wednesday morning, evacuation advisories had been issued for more than 1.2 million people.

More than 30,000 people were given stronger but still not mandatory evacuation orders, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said

Footage on social media showed the 100-metre (328-foot) tall ferris wheel in Osaka spinning rapidly in the storm despite being switched off.

More than two million households experienced blackouts during the storm and schools and companies in the affected area remained shut.

Nearly 800 flights were cancelled, including international flights at Nagoya and Osaka.

On Wednesday, travellers stranded at Osaka's Kansai International Airport were being ferried by boat to another local airport.

As many as 3,000 people had been stranded at the airport, which is built on an artificial island, after a tanker crashed into the bridge connecting it with the mainland.

The airport had seen its runways and basements flooded and will remain closed all Wednesday.

The formations believed to be created by eruption of natural gas from the ground are of growing concern both to researchers and the oil and gas industry in the far Arctic peninsulas of Yamal and Gydan.

One of the biggest formations is located only about four kilometers from a gas pipeline leading from the huge Bovanenkovo field, a project operated by Gazprom. This formation is now growing and has reached a diameter of more than 60 meter and a depth of about 200 meters.

The first sinkholes were discovered in 2014 and since then at least ten big-size holes have been mapped. In addition, there are indications that several more major holes are in the making. Researchers told RIA Novosti that they on the two Arctic peninsulas have discovered several small hills which they believe could be «gas bubbles» ready to burst.
