Fitch cuts Turkey's credit rating deeper into junk territory

Fitch Ratings downgraded Turkey's sovereign debt rating further into junk, saying the government's policies are contributing to "spiralling inflation" and discouraging capital inflows, Bloomberg reports.

The rating company lowered Turkey's score to B from B+, taking it five notches below investment grade. The outlook for Turkey is negative, Fitch said.

"Guided by political considerations, the central bank has maintained its policy rate at 14% since December 2021, despite rapidly rising inflation, the impact of the war in Ukraine on commodity markets and tightening monetary policy in most advanced economies," Fitch wrote.

Shocking video shows Navy facility leak thousands of gallons of fuel into water supply, military families get sick as a result

New videos obtained by Civil Beat appear to show the moment that tens of thousands of gallons of fuel burst from a cracked PVC pipe at a Navy fuel storage facility in Hawaii last November, before eventually contaminating the water supply for thousands of military families.

"It was like watching a scene from Titanic," Army Maj. Mandy Feindt, whose family was impacted by the fuel leak last year, told Task & Purpose of the videos. She specifically took issue with the fact that the videos were not released by the Navy, which she said they likely knew about months ago.

"I just think there's been this huge game of turning a blind eye," she said. "Like, if you don't tell us, it didn't happen."

Comment: The state of the US military reflects the US establishment, utterly incompetent, and rotten with corruption.

Return of the Los Angeles County mask mandate is on autopilot

Kids in Class

People in the city and county of Los Angeles, California have suffered under some the more extreme coronavirus crackdown measures in America. And, one of those authoritarian measures — the county's mask mandate — may be about to make a comeback under county policy to automatically reimpose the mandate if the coronavirus "community transmission" in the county is determined to have risen to what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers "high" and stay at that level for two weeks. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer is advising that the mask mandate will return before the end of this month if the current trend of increasing "cases" continues.

Insanity upon insanity. Tyranny on autopilot. The coronavirus circulating today is different than what was circulating when Los Angeles County previously mandated mask wearing. Yet, the county has put the reimposing of the same supposedly responsive policy on autopilot. Further, masks, while causing known health detriments, have not been shown to provide net protection against the spread of any coronavirus. The county might as well mandate each person in the county carry a rabbit's foot in his pocket to ward off infection. Most importantly, mask mandates impinge on liberty and exceed proper governmental bounds. Nonetheless, if a number on the county's CDC-inspired chart crosses an arbitrary level and stays there or higher for two weeks, the county is set to reimpose a draconian mask mandate.

Stephen King's 'fake news' tweet about Ron DeSantis debunked, writer apologizes

It must have been frightening for horror writer Stephen King to apologize for a tweet about Ron DeSantis that turned out to be pure fiction.

The far-left novelist told his 6.7 million Twitter followers on July 6 that the popular Florida governor had signed a bill requiring Sunshine State students and professors to register their political views with the state. But when people pointed out that it was a bogus claim from an old Salon article, King first apologized, then took down the tweet.
Twitter, which selectively cracks down on anything it deems misinformation, did nothing about the tweet for several days before King acted. When the writer initially apologized, he blamed his source in a statement to CNN.

"I regret having posted the headline without being more confident the story was correct," said King, who had retweeted the old phony story with the words "I. Can't. Even.' "Salon is usually more reliable. Twitter is a constant learning experience, and I will try to do better."

The law DeSantis signed, and Salon botched, requires public colleges and universities in Florida to perform voluntary annual surveys on the subject of "intellectual freedom and viewpoint diversity." Politifact, the left-wing fact-check site run by the Poynter Institute, deemed King's claim misinformation.

'Date-rape drug' scandal rocks German chancellor's party

Berlin police have launched an investigation after at least nine women reported feeling unwell following an invite-only event hosted by the parliamentary group of Chancellor Olaf Scholz's party on Wednesday.

The official probe was first initiated after a 21-year-old woman had no memory of the event the next day, even though she says she didn't drink any alcohol. She went to a hospital and filed a complaint, with police still awaiting the results of her blood test for possible toxic substances.

By Saturday, authorities received at least nine similar complaints, after the incident was first reported by the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel, citing internal communications. Shocked by the allegations, SPD officials apparently sent out an email to all those invited to the event, condemning the "monstrous act" and urging other possible victims to come forward.

"I advise all those concerned to file a complaint," the SPD's Katja Mast reiterated on Twitter, while a spokesman for the party's parliamentary group told AFP on Saturday there was "still a lot of uncertainty, the police are investigating."

Local media reports alleged that the women had likely fallen victim to so-called "date-rape drugs" or "knockout drops." Such substances are sometimes used by sexual predators at nightclubs and bars to spike drinks or food, to leave victims confused and unable to defend themselves.

Energy crisis hitting US industrial complex - Bloomberg

Operational challenges arising from soaring energy bills have put the entire US industrial complex at risk of partial shutdown, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.

The country's second-biggest aluminum mill, which accounts for 20% of the national supply, reportedly laid off 600 workers in late June after its electricity bill tripled. Century Aluminum announced plans to leave its Hawesville mill idle for as long as a year, taking out the biggest of its three sites in the US. Meanwhile, the country's largest aluminum producer Alcoa said it was cutting its production by a third at a mill in Indiana.

At least two steel mills have started to halt some operations in a bid to minimize energy costs, an unnamed industry executive told the agency. In May, a group of factories across the US Midwest warned the country's energy regulators that some enterprises were on the brink of shutdown for the summer months or longer due to "unjust and unreasonable" electricity costs.

In June, natural gas prices tripled compared to the same period a year ago, sending bills for households and businesses soaring to previously unseen levels. Meanwhile, electricity rates for industrial customers are projected to hit an all-time high this summer.

The woke mob subjecting society to narcissistic abuse

woke mob academic bows
© The Spectator
There seems to be a striking similarity between the toxic behaviour patterns of pathological narcissists, particularly those with a tendency towards vulnerable narcissism, and the behaviour of the woke mob. While there is vast academic literature on pathological narcissism at the individual level, the expression of pathological narcissism at the population level has been suggested only fairly recently. If the supposition is valid that the traits of the woke mob comprise those of pathological narcissism, then it must be considered that society is being subjected to narcissistic abuse by the woke mob and that the woke mob cannot be reasoned with and it will not change; it can only be circumvented or removed.

Pathological narcissism is a personality style, just as extroversion or agreeableness are inherent personal types. As a consequence, pathological narcissism is rarely amenable to fundamental change. Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a Cluster B personality disorder, is the formal diagnosis of someone with pathological narcissism who presents to a trained professional because he or she is suffering as a consequence of his or her personality type. The caveat is that pathological narcissists are rarely aware (or care) that they have a toxic personality style and infrequently suffer any real consequences of their behaviour. By definition, pathological narcissists have low (or erratic) levels of empathy, self-awareness and introspection, and they are surrounded by those who acquiesce to their bullying behaviour, often to avoid the narcissist's vindictiveness, rage and general nastiness. Consequently, unlike most other mental and personality disorders, therapy is almost exclusively provided to those subject to the narcissist's abuse and toxic behaviour, rather than to the narcissist themselves.

Flashback Prescient: Which country or US state will be the first to hit the renewable energy wall?

renewable energy
In the fantasy of wealthy woke environmentalists, the world has recognized that it is on the brink of an existential climate crisis that can only be avoided by rapid elimination of the use of fossil fuels, and the transformation of the world energy economy to be based upon "renewables" like the wind and sun. The generation of electricity will be "decarbonized" by some time in the 2030s, and the world will reach "net zero" carbon emissions by around 2050.

In the real world, anyone with eyes can see that this is not happening. The countries with the large majority of world population (China, India, the remainder of Asia, and Africa) mouth a few platitudes to appease the foolish Western elites, even as they continue to build hundreds of new coal and other fossil fuel facilities. Even the U.S. federal government, under left-wing Democrat control, has had its ambitious "Green New Deal" plans stalled in Congress. Worldwide, fossil fuel usage continues on a steady upward trajectory, pretty much as if the whole decarbonization obsession didn't exist.

Comment: Score one for Mr. Menton.

Though the main driver for the energy crisis in Germany is kowtowing to US diktaks on buying Russian gas and oil, it has exposed the inadequacies of the Green Energy policies that have been forced on the citizens. The UK is not far behind.

Clowns World: Urgency is 'white supremacy,' Oregonian health official claims

Punctuality is racist. According to health officials in Oregon, keeping to schedules and making sure that you're on time for an agreed-upon meeting essentially plays into white supremacist values.

An official at the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), a government organization that coordinates medical care in the state, justified delaying meetings with the argument that "urgency is a white supremacy value."

US general suspended over snarky tweet

A retired three-star army general lost his 'senior mentor' job for apparently mocking US First Lady Jill Biden.

The US Army's former top spokesman, Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky, has been relieved of his duties as an adviser to active-duty officers amid a probe into his controversial response to Jill Biden's claim that the rights of American women had been stolen by the Supreme Court.

"For nearly 50 years, women have had the right to make our own decisions about our bodies. Today, that right was stolen from us," Jill Biden tweeted on June 24, following the Supreme Court's move to overturn the abortion rights decision Roe v. Wade.
